(Note: the 200th episode of Digimon since “And So it Begins”)
Sepikmon spies on the Royal Knights with his Spirit Boomerang, and they talk about how close Lucemon’s resurrection is. Datamon activates a satellite and 02 portal-styled TV to see the landscape of the Digital World. Takuya points out that there are only two areas left unscanned: Ophanimon’s castle (the Light area) and the Autumn Leaf Fair (the Ice, where they are). When Koji comments that no one has figured out where the data to Ophanimon’s castle is, Takuya says that the Royal Knights will head their way. Then Sepikmon performs an odd little dance.
Tommy and Datamon have three of the Toucanmon from “Beastie Girl” put together a catapult to assist EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon. Koichi seems a bit freaked out by the idea of hurling snowballs at the enemy, but Tommy says that it’s better than doing nothing. Koichi agrees that EmperorG and MagnaG need all the help they can get (considering neither Gogglehead nor Little Bro can aim).
Zoe, Patamon, Bokomon and Neemon try to evacuate the Digimon on Trailmon (Note: look in the crowd and on top of the Trailmon to see Agumon, Veemon, Wormmon, Babamon, Gatomon—or is that Calumon?—and other cast members from the past three seasons). When ShadowWereGarurumon and Dogmon try to push their way forward, Zoe blows on Kari’s whistle from 01 and tells them to get back in line. Well, at least we know why that whistle wasn’t in 02…J.P., by far, has the most important responsibility: rearranging the town to break up the Fractal Code. That way, the Royal Knights will have to spend precious time rebuilding it when they should be fighting. Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, all ideas seem good before it’s time for battle.
The Spirit Boomerang detects a group of Digimon approaching the Knights. The D-tector names them as Zanbamon, Gryphonmon, Pteramon, GranKuwagamon (who is the Mega form of the DNA-digivolve of Stingmon and ExVeemon), and five Airdramon (now where’s the Digimon Emperor? You know he’s always riding one!) They attack the Knights, proving to be friendly. Takuya and Koji break out the Unified Spirit Evolution and order the others to defend the town, get somewhere safe, yada yada yada. Zoe gets the Digimon to a Trailmon while the new ones help fight Dynasmon and Crusadermon.
Zanbamon uses his Mystic Flame attack to throw Dynasmon a good few feet while Crusadermon asks them who they are. Their answer?
Zanbamon: “We’ve come to put an end to your reign of destruction. If those human children can stand and fight, so can we.”
Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they are all easily defeated. Sepikmon notices as Zoe pushes him aboard.
EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon finally arrive to defend the last two Airdramon, who observe that they have inherited the Spirits and are the only ones that can save the Digital World. The other Digis ready the catapult. Zoe thinks about how it would be impossible for them to lose if they’re all fighting together, Koichi promises that he won’t let anything happen to his brother, and Neemon wishes he had cherry syrup to make snow cones. Right. They aim, wait for EmperorG to get out of the way, and fire at Crusadermon’s chest. As Koichi yells, “Fire two!” and they hit her again, Crusadermon cries out, “Not the face!” Though horribly reminded of Matt’s “Watch the hair,” I must say it is too late, lady. But when they can’t hit her one more time to help Koji, they turn the machine around to get Dynasmon. But the boiler melts it before it can impact.
Don’t worry. Dynasmon forgot that Takuya’s element is fire because he pressed him against the boiler. A huge burst of flames comes out and Dynasmon…
Starts rolling over on the ground?
EmperorGreymon: “Very good: stop, drop, and roll! You paid attention in class!”
Apparently, this is for all those people that thought Jeff Nimoy’s writing was unbearable.
Once again, Koichi and Tommy fire a snowball at Crusadermon’s face (and it bounces this time!), but her attack heads directly for them. Koji, once again saving his brother, takes the attack, but they’re all hurt by the explosion, showing their data.
All but Koichi that is. He comments, “Not again,” much like T.K. from 02, and continues:
Koichi: “I remember the first time this happened. Dynasmon and Crusadermon unleashed their attacks, and Baromon tried to protect us, but instead…” We see everyone in the memory, completely unconscious with their data rings showing.
Bokomon: “Is everyone all right? Oh, oh dear! They got the Fractal Code knocked out of them!”
Koichi: “Yeah. Everyone’s data was visible except mine. I was okay, I mean, relatively speaking. MagnaGarurumon, EmperorGreymon, and I were the only ones left conscious to face the Royal Knights. And then, when we wound up on the moon, everyone was out cold except me. I don’t get it. It just doesn’t make any sense. Why? Why does everyone keep getting hurt except for me?” (Note: in the Wonderswan game Brave Tamer, Ryo notices he has the same problem, but he apparently doesn’t worry about it)
Most people would be praising their luck, but Koichi’s fears are only more intensified:
Crusadermon: “You mean you don’t know?”
Koichi: “Huh?”
Crusadermon: “Haven’t you realized you’re different from the others?”
Koichi: “No. What do you mean ‘different’?”
Crusadermon: “In this world, data comes only from those with a physical form. You, Koichi, have no physical form. Terribly sorry.” (Insert annoying Emerald from Sailor Moon laughter here)
Koichi: “No, then I’m just…”
Crusadermon: “A spirit only.” (Looks like not only Sorcermon will keep fighting after he’s dead.)
Just as in everything, the hero cuts in before any more questions are answered. Has Koji forgotten about how he would have given anything for Koichi to just finish a sentence back when Big Bro was Duskmon? Apparently so, because he attacks Crusadermon, leaving Koichi screaming for the answers a la “O Brother Who Art Thou?”
Well, now that the point of the episode is over, let’s cut to the chase. MagnaG and EmperorG fight, lose, Dynasmon rebuilds the data, the Royal Knights give it to Lucemon, and the Digis head for Ophanimon’s castle.
