Now You See It, Now You Don't

Wow! This summary was written by "Akino Ame"...Thank you!!
Images prepared by me (Julie).

(Hey, isn’t that a Tamers episode?)

It all begins with the Royal Knights scanning what appears to be the Gomamon’s island. They comment on how Lucemon’s going to be reborn with all this data, how they’re going to get rid of the Legendary Warriors, and all that other villain stuff. Knowing that there are only four areas left to scan, they head off.

We cut to a very beaten up Gotsumon, who is facing a bunch of Knightmon a la “If I Only Had a Heart.” But this just isn’t your random, run of the mill Gotsumon—this is the one from back in “Can’t Keep a Grumblemon Down”! He says that he won’t allow them to take the Sacred Jewel (what is this, InuYasha?), so they prepare to kill him. Fortunately, the shout of “Lightning Blitz” stops them, and he then hears a very familiar voice—Koji. When Gotsumon asks if it’s really him, Koji warns that it’s not time to talk. Koichi agrees, but he probably doesn’t know what’s going on.
“Execute! Spirit Evolution!”
“Lobomon!”
“Loewemon!”
“Kumamon!”

Lobomon does the double-sided lightsaber thing against the Knightmon while BurningGreymon uses Wildfire Tsunami. Beetlemon does some good old fashion butt-kicking, and Kumamon and Loewemon tag team against the Knightmon. Meanwhile, Kazemon stands around doing nothing, saying she’s protecting the Destiny Stones—er, statues. The reason why they’re fighting must be a guy thing, apparently. Unfortunately, their efforts do nothing as Crusadermon comes up from behind and uses Spiral Masquerade to destroy the Stones—statues. Gotsumon screams out the Sacred Jewel, and so Dynasmon destroys it, absorbing the Fractal Code of the area for Lucemon. Kazemon is upset that there were still Digimon in there, while Gotsumon is completely terrified, leaving Lobomon to save him. The Knightmon all fall into the bottomless pit of doom. Lobomon is completely appalled by the sacrifice of the Knightmon, while Crusadermon says that they were merely pawns. (They’re knights, darn it! Get the chess pieces right!) Dynasmon releases the data and explains that there are three areas left: the Light, the Forest, and the Ice. Looks like another world tour here. Crusadermon says some Death Eater comment about the world being pure once Lucemon awakens, and Kumamon makes the usual hero comeback. Crusadermon challenges them to meet at the Forest Kingdom, tosses her rose, and the petals come out a la Zoicite from Sailor Moon. Seeing his entire home destroyed, Gotsumon faints like Mrs. Izumi upon meeting Tentomon.

He opens his eyes to see Koji and Zoe watching over him as he lies on a bench (like the one Kari lay on in “My Sister’s Keeper”). They warn him not to do too much, but he swears that’s the problem—he didn’t do anything. He thanks them for their help and has a black, white, and red image of what would happen if they hadn’t come to help. But when he asks if they’ll save the world, Takuya is unsure. Basically, everyone encourages him, and Gotsumon volunteers his help. And unlike Henry in “No Mon is an Island,” Koji compares Gotsumon’s desire to fight with what they would do if their world was destroyed. Having thought of that, he insists that Gotsumon joins the team (and Koji kind of becomes the only 04 Digi to have a Digimon partner). They head off to the Forest Kingdom when Tommy suggests that the Fractal Code could be in Seraphimon’s castle, knowing this could be the last chance to save the world.

The Knightmon are using their Electric Blade (Berserk Sword in 02) attack to try and break through the castle’s defenses, but Crusadermon points out that there’s a barrier surrounding it. She and Dynasmon fly up top while Takuya and Koichi keep spying from a tree…or maybe a bush… Bokomon points out the barrier, admitting he doesn’t know who left it, and Takuya says “Of course not,” offending their pink-belted guide. But when Takuya suggests that they all take down Knightmon together, Koji insists on doing it on his own, surprising everyone—though they should be used to his lone wolf attitude after forty or so episodes. But this time, Koji has an excuse, telling them to keep an eye on the Royal Knights so they can’t get the data. Gotsumon volunteers to help his friend, and Takuya reacts in the following way:
Takuya: “Okay! Fine! Next time, buddy, can you tell us without all the dramatics?”

Cutting it short this time as I’ve typed the evolutions enough times, Koji becomes MagnaGarurumon and charges out with Gotsumon to fight the Knightmon. Gotsumon is impressed with his friend’s new form (though he still looks like a plush toy!), and the others go out to follow Arukenimon and Mummymon—er, Crusadermon and Dynasmon.

Crusadermon explains that the barrier is weakest at the top, so she and her partner start hammering away at it. Takuya’s ready to evolve to a Zeta as well, but his D-tector opens a hole in the barrier, allowing them inside. J.P. hesitates, reminding them of Koji’s orders, but Bokomon replies that if they found the data first, there would be no need to watch the Royal Knights. Neemon dashes into the castle, declaring “Last one in’s a rotten digiegg!” and poor J.P. has the dishonor. Meanwhile, 02 fans cry remembering that it was Davis’s line and we all miss him for that. Meanwhile, MagnaGaruru and Gotsumon are taking down the Knightmon easily with Feral Fire and Rock Fist. MagnaG adds his Magna Missiles (really, couldn’t they think of some better attack names?) and Gotsumon comments on how easy it was as they look at the scattered pieces of Knightmon—like the broken clay pieces of Putties for those of you that remember watching Power Rangers and secretly deny it now that you are much older.
Rule #72 of TV and movies: Never ever say it was too easy, because it always will be.

The Knightmon pull themselves back together while MagnaGarurumon comments about Gotsumon’s big mouth. Now they have to do it all over again! Patamon, meanwhile, recognizes the inside of the castle from his days as Seraphimon, but it’s up to Takuya’s D-tector to lead them down the right path. Dynasmon is still smashing at the barrier, and MagnaGaruru has run out of ammo! (much like Terriermon used to do) Crusadermon decides to take them on herself, saying something about the last thing they’ll see before they meet oblivion will be her beauty. Right… In fact, I think MagnaG responds to it best when he discards his armor and ejects his plot device—I mean, lightsaber—and runs into battle.

Agunimon smashes through a wall, revealing a hidden room with Cherubimon in it. Patamon, Neemon, and Bokomon nearly have a coronary until they see that it’s only a crystal statue of Cherubimon with the other Celestial Digimon. Aguni realizes this is the data, and Zoe quizzes him about it. He dedigivolves and presses his hand against the sculpture to reveal Fractal Code, proving he’s right. But Dynasmon tears through the barrier and destroys the castle!

Miraculously, the kids and Digimon are safe thanks to a white light. Sorcermon is using the last bit of his strength to protect them, even though he’s dead (remember this, folks). He was the one that put up the barrier with the last of his strength, and he says a final goodbye, much like Wizardmon in “Ghost of a Chance.” Takuya realizes they have to fight twice as hard, but Dynasmon has touched down beside them! He’s surprised when Takuya doesn’t have a witty reply, but the kid evolves to EmperorGreymon instead!

Meanwhile, it’s lightsaber vs. yellow ribbon thing as MagnaGarurumon and Crusadermon keep duking it out. Feeling completely useless, Gotsumon wishes to fight and digivolves into Meteormon! While he’s not as impressive-looking as Rosa’s Monochromon from 02, he does kick more butt with his Galactic Blast, which deletes the Knightmon on contact. EmperorG, meanwhile, uses his Dragon Fire Crossbow against Dynasmon’s Dragon Thrower, but it serves only as a diversion as the self-proclaimed passionate warrior used his attack to destroy the sculpture! He collects the data, deleting the ground under their feet. MagnaG and EmperorG swear to keep on fighting, but both have a problem on their hands as Crusadermon uses her Spiral Masquerade to dedigivolve Meteormon, and the other Digis are about to fall into oblivion! Crusadermon/Dynasmon: “Will you fight us or save your friends?”

Needless to say, the Zetas grab their friends and get to safety. Later, Trailmon Angler urges Koji to get aboard, but the Warrior of Light is trying to say goodbye to Gotsumon, who’s got a bandaged head, right arm, and left arm (which is in a sling like Ogremon had in 01). Gotsumon says he doesn’t want to be in Koji’s way anymore, but Koji insists that the little guy was never in his way to begin with. With the prayers of Gotsumon to answer, Koji and the others head off to the next location, the Ice world.
