Not long after the incident with Gotou, Shinichi is sleeping in his own bed when Migi appears to him in a dream to say goodbye. Due to the effects within Gotou's body, Migi wants to sleep and explains that he will go into a dormant state and hopes Shinichi will eventually forget about him. Shinichi awakes the next morning. Staring at his hand he yells, "Like hell I'd forget!"

About a year later, things have calmed down and the parasite issue appears to have ended. Satomi and friends are in college, but Shinichi missed so much school, he didn't make it in. One afternoon after Satomi helps Shinichi with his studies, they are on their way home when the boy sees an ominous familiar face in the crowd. It's Uragami!! Diverting Shinichi's attention, Uragami manages to grab Satomi. He takes her to the top of an office building holding her hostage at knifepoint. Sadly, a couple on the roof are murdered by Uragami, because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

It isn't long before Shinichi makes his way to the roof and faces Uragami. "Who is human and who is the monster?" Uragami asks the boy. After negotiations weren't working, Shinichi races to the killer and lands a bloody blow to the jaw, however, Satomi is thrown over the edge of the building during the confrontation. Shinichi is horrified until he looks down at his hand and sees that Migi awoke from his dormant state to save Satomi. He pulls her up. Relieved and unable to move, Shinichi recalls the incident with the dying dog admitting he pulled the dog from the trash and buried him. Satomi looked up at him. "I know," she said "because you're Shinichi kun."
