Episode 23: Life and Vows

Continuing from last episode, Shinichi heads to the woods to confront Gotou. He knows his chances of succeeding in killing the incredibly strong parasite prototype are pretty slim. Yet he wants to stop anymore killing.

A battered Shinichi tries his best, but he is unable to defeat Gotou. Just as it looks hopeless, the exhausted boy reaches for a sharp stick out of a mountain of trash behind him. He stabs Gotou in the abdomen. The parasite's retaliation looks like the end for Shinichi until it's Migi to the rescue! He/She/It's returned!! Migi is able to stop Gotou from killing Shinichi, but it was the toxic stick Shinichi used that caused Gotou's body to explode. Shinichi turns to walk away, but Migi notices that Gotou is trying to regenerate and has a 50% chance of doing so. At first Shinichi isn't sure he wants to kill Gotou, but he eventually realizes that to prevent any more killing, he must end Gotou's life.

Back at the village the men are scrambling. Granny Mitsuyo asks what is going on, and she is told that a corpse of the monster has been found. She looks down and sees the cleaver. "Did you do it, Shinichi?" she wonders.
