Episode 18: More Than Human

After finding Detective Kuramori, the police learn that he has been working with another human just before he died. To their frustration, they are unsure who that someone is, but they do know who killed him. Detective Hirama orders an all-out search of the park and eventually tracks down Reiko, her baby, and Shinichi.

The police determine Reiko is a parasite and open fire. Reiko chooses not to fight back and protects her child. She begs Shinichi to take the baby, and he eventually concedes when Reiko changes her appearance to Nobuko (his mother). When Reiko succumbs to the multiple bullet wounds, her baby begins to cry. The baby's cries trigger Shinichi's emotions from losing his own mother, and he begins to cry as well. Satomi arrives to see him and asks if he is back.

After the ordeal, the police question/test Shinichi. A disgusting serial killer (Uragami) somehow has the ability to detect parasites. The boy and killer stare at one another as the episode ends.
