Shinichi contacts Mamoru Uda, and the two devise a plan to take the detective aside and talk to him (basically kidnap the guy). Shinichi tells the detective everything.

Later, as what comes as a complete surprise, Reiko contacts Shinichi and asks him to meet her on top of a university building. Reiko shows up with her baby after attending a lecture regarding the "selfish gene." She talks coexistence and realizes something has changed with the boy. Reiko guesses that his mother was killed by a parasite. This causes Shinichi to get emotional and threaten her. Playing on his emotions, Reiko uses the baby as a shield.

After the encounter, Shinichi is able to calm himself on the outside, but he can't forgive her. He runs away trying to gain full composure. A fortune teller sees him and calls him over. After reading his palm, she tells him he has a hole in his heart, and in order to close it, he must meet the person who created the hole. Believing she means his mother, Shinichi gives her a snide grin saying "I killed that person."
