“So tell me, are you magician?” Inuyasha asked Miroku. The growing group had started walking around sunrise and they were basically quiet till now.
“No” he said.
“Then are you a priest like Kikyo?” Inuyasha asked.
“Yes, how did you know?” said Miroku.
“Well, every time I tried to attack you last night, a wind kept pushing me.” Inuyasha said.
“It is true that I am a priest, but it was not through my own magic that I countered your attacks.” Miroku said.
“Then how did you do it?” Kikyo asked.
“It is actually Naraku’s fault. Many years ago, my grandfather fought Naraku and lost. Instead of killing him, Naraku cursed him with a wind tunnel. This wind tunnel sucked anything in its path and was a great weapon, but it was also his fall. As time went on, this wind tunnel grew and was the death of him. This curse has been passed down the generations up to me and I am here to avenge the injustice Naraku did to us.”
“But I don’t see you sucking anything right now.” Kikyo said.
“That’s because I have these enchanted beads to keep it closed” Miroku said. He held up his hand and showed it to the group. “As long as it’s on, I wont suck anything in.”
“Oh.”
The group kept on walking silently for the rest of the day. They kept on walking until sunset, when the hamster noticed the smoke coming out of the forest.
“This isn’t good.” It said.
“What?” Inuyasha said.
“It seems that Naraku is expanding his borders. I know of a village that is over there.” It said.
“Then we have no time to lose. We may still be able to help them!” Miroku said, and ran towards it.
“But that’s it! We don’t have time!” the hamster said as Inuyasha ran after Miroku. As Inuyasha gained speed, he dug his claws into his clothes. This is getting annoying.
When they reached the village, they saw that they were too late. The attack must have happened a few days ago, since all that remained of the village was cold ashes. They all split up in hopes that they would find something. After a few minutes, Shippo yelled that he found something. Everyone rushed to him expecting a demon or a wounded person, but they just saw him scratching himself.
“Shippo, what were you yelling about?” Inuyasha said, getting out of his attack pose.
“There’s a tick one me!” he complained, and started rubbing his back on the ground. When he got up, they saw a tick on the ground, as flat as a pancake.
“Hello lord Inuyasha” the tick said with a repressed voice.
“Did you know this thing?” Kikyo whispered into Inuyasha’s ear.
“Yes I do.” he said, as his face became calm. “This is Myoga.”
“I’m so flattered that you still remember my name after all these years master Inuyasha. I was under the impression that you were cursed forever and would never come back…” Myoga said.
“Is that supposed to mean something?” Inuyasha said.
“Of course not…” Myoga said.
“Did you lose the passage?” the hamster said suddenly.
“How do you know about the passage?” Mygoa said astonished.
“Maybe this will help you.” The hamster said and coughed. Then he tried to change his voice. “I bestow upon you the duty of giving Inuyasha his birthright when he comes of age.”
“Lord Muad’ib?!” the flea said.
“Yes, it is I.” He said. “But lets not get off track. Do you still have the passage?” the hamster said.
“…no” the flea timidly replied.
“What happened to it?” the hamster said, a little angry.
“I don’t know, but somehow, it embedded itself into lord Inuyasha’s eye so that only he could reach it.” the flea explained.
“What the hell are you guys talking about?” Inuyasha said impatiently.
“When you father died, he left some things for you and your brother. What he left for you is what is known as the legendary Tetsaiga, but fearing that your brother would try and steal it, he put many spells on it, insuring that he would never be able to use it.” the hamster said.
“What’s the Tetsaiga?” Inuyasha said.
“It’s a sword with much power.” Myoga said.
“Can it help us out in the battle against Naraku?” Kikyo said.
“If used correctly, it can kill 100 demons at a time.” Myoga said.
“Then lets get it.” Inuyasha said excitedly.
“Okay, but this might hurt a bit.” Myoga said.
“Huh?” Inuyasha said as the flea crawled up to his face. Then he pulled out a black thing from Inuyasha’s eye. “Ahhh!” he said in agony. The black thing grew until it was the size of a fully-grown human.
“What is it?” Inuyasha said with a hand over one eye.
“This portal will lead us to where the Tetsaiga is hidden.” The flea said.
“Well, if its meant for me, I’ll get it myself.” Inuyasha said, and jumped in. The portal closed after him.
“Inuyasha!” Kikyo said, but too late. They were gone. She decided it would be best for them to wait, so she, Shippo and Miroku sat down. “I guess we’ll have to wait” Kikyo said. The Monk grunted consent and closed his eyes.
“…”
“Do you hear that?” Shippo said.
“Hear what?” Kikyo said.
“…”
“Lets investigate it.” Shippo said. He started following his noise, and was chased by Kikyo.
“Should I come?” Miroku said with his eyes still closed.
“No. If we’re not here when Inuyasha comes back, tell him not to worry.” Kikyo said, and followed Shippo into the ashes.
~
“Whoa…” Inuyasha said in amazement. What he saw before him was a large desert looking valley-like place with a big skull in the distance. A soft breeze blew dust into the air, making it dance in a circular fashion. Flying through the valley, skeletal flying beasts glided on the breeze, flapping their bat like wings when the thermals couldn’t support them. Flocks of these creatures also dotted the air and called at each other with their high-pitched whines when they found an unlucky victim to eat.
“This is where your father lies.” The hamster said.
“And where your inheritance resides.” The flea added.
“Then lets go!” Inuyasha said excitedly. “But how do we get across?”
“Hitch a ride on one of those flying things.” The flea instructed.
“Are you crazy?” Inuyasha said.
“It’s the only shot we have.” The hamster said.
“This stinks.” Inuyasha said. He started running really fast and jumped off the end of the nearest cliff. He was in free fall until he found a flying him to hitch a ride on. Once he found it, he landed on its back and held onto its head. The beast fought ferociously, but Inuyasha still subdued it. When he had a good grip, he pointed its head at the grave and flew them there, the beast still screeching in protest.
“Aww shut your trap!” Inuyasha said in annoyance, and slapped the back of its head. The creature made a final screech and stayed quiet afterwards. Soon, they arrived and Inuyasha jumped off of it, setting it free. He went into the mouth of the grave and explored its innards. After some searching, he entered a room with an old and chipped off sword in the center.
“Is this it?” Inuyasha said in disbelief.
“Yes.” Myoga said.
“What’s so great about it? It looks like it’s done for.” Inuyasha said.
“Its power will only be unleashed when necessary. Otherwise it stays as it is.” The hamster explained.
“Well. I might as well get it.” Inuyasha said. He walked up to it and put both hands on the handle. Then he pulled with all his might, expecting it to be stuck in the stone it was embedded in. But it was a very easy pull, and he fell on his butt.
“That was too easy.” Inuyasha said.
“Yes it was.” said another voice.
“Who said that?” Inuyasha said, and spun to its direction.
~
“That was too easy.” Inuyasha said.
“Yes it was.” said another voice. This voice. I know it. I looked and saw someone I hadn’t seen for many years. It was Sesshomaru. Suddenly everything blacked out.
It felt like I had been out for days, but I was still engulfed in the black. As I opened my eyes, I saw that I was in my true form. Around me, I saw images of Sesshomaru and some girl. The first one was with Sesshomaru with his back on a tree and the girl offering him something. Then I saw another image with Sesshomaru being followed by some little creature and the girl. Then I saw other images going farther and farther into the future. The girl was growing up and she seemed to be Sesshomaru’s partner. I saw images of Sesshomaru protecting her, Sesshomaru teaching her and Sesshomaru looking into her soul. Then I saw other images of her dressing one of Sesshomaru’s wounds and other images. The images kept on coming and coming until I couldn’t even register them.
What is going on? I thought.
What right do you have to change this? Something said. Before I could say anything to it, this world was flooded with light. I opened my eyes and saw myself staring at the ceiling of the room I was in.
“Muad’ib, are you all right?” Sesshomaru said. As I gained focus I could see Inuyasha, Sesshomaru and Myoga looking down at me. I then realized that I was lying on the floor. Suddenly I jumped on my feet and said: “Of course I am. Why would you ask a question like that?”
“Well, I was about to shred Inuyasha, but then you suddenly fell off his shoulder and fainted for a few minutes. Myoga sucked your blood to see if there was anything in you-“
“You let Myoga suck my blood?!!” I said in disgust.
“It was only to see if you had any poison in you. But I found none, so I gave it all back to you.” Myoga said.
“… you put it back in me.” I said calmly accepting what he said. Then it registered what he said and I realized what he just did. “YOU PUT IT BACK IN ME!!!”
“Yes, I was afraid that your body couldn’t handle the lack of the blood.” Myoga said. My left eye started twitching.
“I. WILL. KILL YOU!!!” I shrieked and started chasing him.
“Did he act like this when you knew him?” Inuyasha asked.
“Nope. This is the first time.” Said Sesshomaru, dumbfounded.
“You could’ve given me HIV you *^%!!!” shrieked the crazed hamster.
“So, how did you get in here?” Inuyasha asked Sesshomaru.
“Well, I stole the passageway to get here from Myoga and found the sword. But when I tried to take it, it did this to me.” Sesshomaru said, and showed his hand. It was burned black.
“Why’d you stay here then?” Inuyasha asked.
“I couldn’t escape. It seems the passageway is the only way in or out. But I figured I could wait for you to get it and escape when you left.” Sesshomaru explained.
“Yeah, that sure sounds like you. Well, I got what I wanted, so I guess we’ll go now.” Inuyasha said.
“Can I get some help here?” Myoga barely managed to say; he was being strangled by the hamster.
“Master Muad’ib, you always warned me about my temper.” Sesshomaru said.
“Well… This is different!” the hamster said and strangled Myoga harder. When he finally vented all his anger, he let the flea go and climbed onto Inuyasha’s shoulder. Myoga gasped for air.
“Will you join us Sesshomaru?” the hamster asked.
“Well, I haven’t really fought anyone in some time, so I guess I will.” Sesshomaru said.
“How do you two know each other?” Inuyasha asked as he scraped Myoga off the floor and put him in his pocket.
“When I was younger, Master Muad’ib took me into his wing and trained me. Ever since then, he has made me very strong, and have followed his teachings since he said that I was ready to go out on my own.” He said.
“So that’s why you were always better then me.” Inuyasha thought out loud.
“What was that?” Myoga said.
“I mean, lets go.” Inuyasha said, and started walking out.
~
“Do you see it yet Shippo?” Kikyo asked the fox.
“No, but we’re really close.” Shippo said. He walked a little more until they saw a horrifying site; a mass slaughter of all the villagers in the center of the town.
“…Who could have done this” Kikyo said in disbelief.
“Come one, someone is alive in there!” Shippo said, and started scrutinizing the corpses. He went through about fifty dead bodies when he found the two. “Kikyo! I found them!” Shippo said urgently. Kikyo halted her search and examined the two people she found. They were a boy and a girl with many arrows in them. She felt for their heartbeats, and found that they were still alive, even though the boy’s heartbeat was fainter then the girl’s.
“We have to operate on them now, or they might not make it.” Kikyo said. Then she looked at Shippo, tears in her eyes. “Shippo, go get my bag.”
“Right.” He said, and ran off to get it. Kikyo stood by the two and started preparing herself for what she was about to do. Shippo came back almost instantly, breathing so fast that he may have passed out.
“Shippo, I want you to stay with Miroku.” Kikyo said.
“But I wanna help.” Shippo complained.
“Shippo. This is not something you should see. Leave.” She said. All he did was stand there, staring at her, ready to whine like a kid again. “Please!” she said, crying to herself.
“All right.” He said weakly, and slowly started walking away.
When he was out of sight, Kikyo started her work. She took out some ingredients and made a wet salve. When the salve was complete, she tore some cloth out of her skirt to dress the wounds. When they were ready, she started her real work. She examined the arrows and determined that they hit not organs, and that pulling them out would only cause flesh wounds. She pulled one out and applied pressure to the wound. When she was satisfied that it had coagulated enough, she cleaned the wound and applied the salve. Then she dressed it and started the next one.
After finishing her duty, she lay next to them, physically and emotionally drained. The whole time she couldn’t escape the presence of the cadavers around her and what happened to them. As she lay there, she started to cry.
Not too long after, she saw something small approach her. She knew it was there, but she didn’t really care what happened to her at that point.
“Are you all right?” the hamster asked.
“I’m getting over it.” Kikyo said, out of tears to shed.
“I know how it feels when you are helpless to help someone when that is what you have the ability to. But what keeps me sane is that no matter how good you are, you can’t always save everyone and it’s not always your fault.” The hamster said. It walked up to the two patients and looked at them. “These two definitely didn’t look like they deserved what they got.”
“No one can escape destiny.” Kikyo said. Suddenly the hamster looked at her and said angrily:
“Destiny does not make us. We make our destiny.” It then stood between the kids and started meditating. As it meditated, Kikyo noticed that here was a large buildup of ki around the hamster. The energy built up so much that it became a visible blue mist around it. Then the blue aura started seeping into the kids. After a few minutes of this transference, the hamster stopped and sat there with its eyes open.
“Are you okay? A creature your size doesn’t have enough energy to revive two humans.” Kikyo said worriedly.
“Don’t worry about me. I have enough energy to revive everyone on this planet.” The hamster said.
“You aren’t a mere hamster are you?”
“That is true.”
“Then what kind of demon are you?” Kikyo said, becoming defensive.
“I am no demon. I am no creature of beast that is from this planet.”
“Then what are you?”
“… I don’t know”
“Can I at least see what you really look like?”
“All right. But you have to promise that you will keep this between us.”
“Okay.” Kikyo said. The hamster stood on its two feet and closed its eyes. Then a bright blue light started pouring out of it. So much light came out that for a few seconds, the town no longer looked like it was at night. Then it all disappeared.
“You look… beautiful” Kikyo said in amazement. Instantly, the rest of the group came to the site, expecting some kind of demon to attack.
“What was that?” Inuyasha said.
“It was-” Kikyo was about to say, but stopped when she heard the gasps for air. Everyone looked at the two patients and saw the two kids sitting on the ground with amazed eyes.
“I guess my work here is done.” The hamster said and started climbing onto Inuyasha. Kikyo looked at it with reverence and the two patients looked at with amazement.
“I saw the light and I thought I died, but them I was here all of a sudden.” The boy said to the girl.
“Same here brother.” The girl said to him. The two huddled together as if they were alone in the cold dark.
“Hello.” Kikyo said to the two. “My name is Kikyo, what’s yours?”
“I’m Sango.” The girl said. “And my brother’s name is Kohaku.
“Can you tell us what happened here?” Kikyo asked tenderly.
“It was all my fault…” Kohaku said with a blank expression.
“No it wasn’t. Naraku put some spell on you. It wasn’t you who killed the village.” Sango said.
“So this was Naraku’s doing too. He has gone way too far this time.” Miroku said angrily.
“We will avenge our village.” Sango simply said, and stood up with her brother. The two started walking as if they had no wounds at all.
“You two shouldn’t even be walking right now.” Kikyo said in protest. “It will be weeks before your wounds heal.” That made the two stop. They checked all over their bodies where the arrows had hit them and found… nothing. Under the dressings Kikyo made, the wounds were gone, as if they had never even been there.
