Chapter Two: Luna of The Moons
"Where did it go?" Kae placed the Trinity back into its sheath.
"Where did what go?" Tsuneyo asked.
"The sphere! The glowing sphere! It was right there in the forest!" She pointed where the sphere used to be.
"Just leave it alone, Kae. It's not safe here." Hesitantly, Kae agreed to drop the subject. "You can't stay here. The foxes will be after you. They'll search the whole town."
"Where do you suggest I stay, then?"
"You can't stay with me either. They know I'm a friend. Luna will help us." Tsuneyo suggested.
"Humans are good for something. Well.. at least this human." Kae looked down at the dead ninja. "Let's get going."
Kae and Tsuneyo traveled only at night, when they could be hidden by the shadows. They were careful not to make noise. Unfortunately, they weren't careful enough. Kae ran through the forest, avoiding the path. Twigs, leaves and stones were scattered about. Kae - paying more attention to her destination, rather than where she was putting her foot - stepped on a pile of dead leaves, making a loud CRRRRRCH!!
"No.." she gasped, stopping in her tracks. Tsuneyo stopped as well. She waited for something to happen. Tsuneyo looked down at her from a tree branch. He motioned her to come join him in the trees. Gracefully, she lept into the trees, and they continued to travel. With her sensitive hearing, Kae could hear footsteps that belonged to neither her nor Tsuneyo. She whispered to him,
"We're being followed." he looked at her, then looked back.
"Separate. Whoever it is won't know which one of us is who. He won't know who to follow." Kae nodded. In an instant, Tsuneyo was no longer running by her side. He dashed off to the left. She went right. If they want me, they'll have to catch me... And if they catch me, they'll have to fight me. She stayed cautious of where her feet were so she didn't fall, and of the sound of the third footsteps.
Moments later, the footsteps descended. Following the sound of Tsuneyo's footsteps, she ran along side him again.
"He's gone." she whispered. Tsuneyo nodded.
"We're almost there." he whispered back.
Dawn broke. Kae and Tsuneyo were exhausted from the running. They slept
high in a tree, and stayed hidden from view.
It didn't take them much longer to reach their destination. The town they
were now in was called Reen. It was beautiful with meadows, fields and
even a small waterfall.
"Luna lives near here if I remember correctly." Tsuneyo searched his surroundings for her house. Every home in Reen was made of wood and had a small garden in front. Luna was known to have every color flower in her garden, while others would pick and choose the colors that mixed well. Most people would ask themselves, If Reen is so wonderful, why would anyone choose to live somewhere else? ...Reen isn't all nature and beauty. There is a rumor that Reen Forest is inhabited by a vicious creature - that nobody has every seen - who feeds on anyone it finds. People are scared off by that rumor, since many citizens have gone missing. Luna stays because it's the only town that has the things she needs to help her while she practices her telekinesis.
"There." Kae pointed to a small cottage-like house with a vibrant garden. She could hear moving inside, and a small voice. Tsuneyo knocked on the door. A young lady opened it. She had long black hair that was messy-neat and had natural dark purple highlights. Her eyes were bright green and full of energy. Her skin was light tan with a plum colored birthmark on her left cheek that resembled a dragon. She was wearing a midnight blue shirt that resembled that of Kae's and a black skirt that was short in the front, was cut in the middle, and continued in the back as long. Seeing Tsuneyo and Kae, her eyes opened wide.
"Tsuneyo?" her voice was soft and kind. "Kae?" Tsuneyo nodded.
"How have you been?" he asked. She shrugged.
"I'm alright. Come on in." she moved aside and allowed Kae and Tsuneyo to enter her home. It was cozy with a warm fire.
"We need to ask a favor of you." Kae said, shyly.
"Sure. Anything." Luna smiled. Tsuneyo explained the details of what Kae had done.
"I can help you, Kae." Luna said, with a mischievous smile.
"What are you planning?" Kae asked.
"You'll see..."
