Inuyasha: The Prophecies

Chapter Twenty-three
Destiny sighed as she lied back down on her bed and covered herself. That was way too close for comfort. She didn’t know why, but she just didn’t want anyone to know about her nightmare. She definitely didn’t want anyone, especially Inukai, to know about what had happened in the beginning of her dream. She began blushing when she found herself imagining Inukai kissing her. She shook her head, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.
Anna yawned as she got out of bed and frowned when she saw that Sharon was still asleep. She shook her head and left her room. She was about to go down stairs when she heard yelling. She looked down to see Destiny and Inukai arguing. She groaned and shook her head as she made her way downstairs and to the kitchen. She sighed as she sat down and heard Inukai and Destiny continue yelling at each other.
“I told you, I only woke up because I was hungry, you dense idiot!” Destiny cried glaring at Inukai.
“You’re lying again,” Inukai muttered.
“I am not,” Destiny hissed.
Inukai rolled his eyes and grabbed Destiny by the wrist turning her so that he could look her straight in the eye. “Now, I want you to tell me that you’re not lying.”
Destiny felt suddenly guilty and afraid. Guilty because she knew she was lying and she wouldn’t be able to do so now that he was holding her gaze. If she looked away, he’d know she was lying all along and she knew she didn’t have the courage to lie straight in his face. She was afraid because she didn’t want him to know and because she knew he wasn’t going to give up anytime soon and she wouldn’t be able to hold him off any longer which meant she’d eventually tell him the truth despite what she was trying to do. She began biting her lower lip as tears fill her eyes. She didn’t want him to know, she didn’t want anyone to know.
Inukai let out a warning growl.
Destiny gulped. “I-Inukai, please…”
“Please what?” Inukai asked as he put a hand underneath her chin tilting it up so he could get a better look at her face. He mentally cursed when he saw tears begin to trail down Destiny’s cheeks.
Destiny gulped again as she looked into Inukai’s determined warm golden eyes. “I-I just had a dream, that’s all.”
“What kind of dream?” Inukai asked as his eyes softened.
Destiny gulped and tried to look away, but Inukai didn’t release his hold on her chin. “It…” She looked into Inukai’s eyes trying to plead with him, but he wouldn’t give in.
“You two can talk about this later. For now, let us eat breakfast,” a voice said.
Inukai released Destiny as he and her turned around to face the one who had spoken. Standing there was Sesshomaru with his arms crossed and a look on his face that clearly said he was bored.
Inukai grunted and whispered to Destiny, “This isn’t over. Just remember that.” He then went to eat with the others.
Destiny shot him a glare, but shuddered somehow knowing she wasn’t going to make it through without telling Inukai about what had really woken her up.
Sharon and Anna shot Inukai glares as they ate their breakfast. Reiji and Max just let out sighs and shook their heads. Sesshomaru ignored them and Rin didn’t seem to notice them. Destiny was too busy worrying about telling Inukai her little secret that she hadn’t noticed. In fact, she had been looking down at her food and only her food the whole time!
After breakfast, Destiny stood up to leave and Sharon and Anna instantly came to her rescues before Inukai could get to her. Inukai grunted and left until an idea came to him.
He turned around and watched as the three girls made their way upstairs. They’re all girls. And what do girls do? They talk! That’s it! They’ll have a little girl talk and they’ll eventually find the truth out! Yes! I’m a genius! Once the girls were out of sight, he slowly climbed up the stairs and leaned against the door of the room they were in to press his ear against and listen to their conversation.
“So, what do you of this place and everyone so far?” Anna asked.
“Well, it’s okay, I guess,” Destiny said. “I mean, you two are cool, Sesshomaru-sama and Rin-sama are great, Max is okay, and Reiji is okay, too.”
“What do you think of Inukai?” Sharon asked.
Inukai leaned in further trying to keep silent when he heard nothing and frowned. Come on. What does she think of me?
Destiny looked towards Sharon as she began to blush. Sharon was sitting next to her on the floor crossed legged while Anna was sitting on the bed. Destiny was in between them. “Well, umm…” She looked down at her hands as she began fidgeting with the hem of her kimono.
Sharon and Anna exchanged glances smiling and looked back towards Destiny. “Well?”
Destiny gulped as her blush became bigger. “He’s, well, okay, too, I guess. He’s… kinda… cute especially with those kawaii dog-ears on top of his head. Do mine look that cute? And he’s, umm, hot, maybe a little too hot. And he’s cool, way cool. And sweet and… stuff.” She just blushed even more when Anna and Sharon nodded.
“That proves it, you’re Nina’s reincarnation,” Sharon said. “Your soul recognizes his and his yours. That’s why you two feel like this. There’s no other reasonable explanation.”
Inukai smirked when he heard all this. So, I’m hot, cool, and sweet, huh? That’s nice to know. Just when he was about to leave, the door opened hitting him and making him fall to the ground. He growled as the girls peeked behind the door to see what they had hit. Anna and Sharon exchanged glances while Destiny gave him an annoyed look.
Inukai quickly regained his composure, stood up, and crossed his arms. “Keh. Can’t you look where you’re going?”
“You’re the one who bumped into the door,” Destiny said. “So, can’t you look where you’re going?”
Inukai gave her a glare and went over to her grabbing her by the wrist. He then looked towards Anna and Sharon. “Destiny and I have some things to talk about alone.”
Anna gave Inukai a look that clearly said he better not make Destiny cry or anything while Sharon just gave Destiny a concerned look as Inukai dragged her away.
Inukai rolled his eyes and left the house. He then went to the garden and released Destiny. He put his hands on his hips while his face took on a determined and concerned look. “Now what woke you up last night?”
“For the final time, I was hungry,” Destiny said rolling her eyes and putting her hands on her hips, too.
“You’re lying,” Inukai said as his eyes narrowed.
Destiny becoming agitated growled out, “I am not. Now leave me alone unless you have something better to talk to me about.”
Inukai let out a defeated sigh as he looked down at the ground. “Do you even trust me?”
“What?” Destiny asked becoming concerned with what she heard in his voice. She heard betrayal and hurt. “What- what do you mean?”
“You… won’t tell me what’s wrong. I want to help you, but you won’t let me. You keep pushing me away and you’re lying to me. I don’t think you trust me if you can’t tell me,” Inukai said as his hands turned to fists at his side.
Destiny couldn’t see his eyes since his bangs were covering them but she could already guess how they looked right now. She could read Inukai like a book rather he liked it or not. She knew the others couldn’t read him as easily, but she could. She seemed to have a sense for it. She went up to him and moved his bangs to the side so she could see his face. Inukai looked towards her startled as her eyes softened.
“I do trust you and I didn’t mean to give you the wrong idea, but…” Destiny looked down at the ground and was about to take her hand away from Inukai but he grabbed it before she could. She let out a startled gasp and looked towards him to meet his confused yet determined golden gaze.
“Then what do you mean?” Inukai asked clearly not wanting to lose this battle.
“I-I mean…” Destiny felt tear fill her eyes and begin to go down her cheeks. “I mean that I had a stupid nightmare and I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t think it was that important.”
“It is if it was bugging you,” Inukai said softly and loosening his grip on Destiny’s hand.
Destiny looked away. “It-it was just horrible… that’s all.” She shuddered when she remembered the end of her dream.
Inukai frowned and lightly squeezed Destiny’s hand hoping it’d reassure her. She looked up and met his gaze then nodded after she let out a small yelp from him squeezing her small hand.
“Sorry. Did that hurt?” Inukai asked.
“No,” Destiny said as she began blushing.
“So, are you going to tell me what happened?” Inukai asked.
Destiny let out a sigh as she nodded. “Well…”
“I see you two have left Destiny and Inukai alone to… get to know one another,” Max said as he saw Anna and Sharon come down the stairs.
Anna immediately slapped Max across the head. “You hentai. That’s not why we left them together. Inukai wanted to talk with her.”
“And become bonded,” Max said smiling.
Anna slapped him again while Sharon rolled her eyes.
“I seriously don’t know why you keep saying and doing that stuff when you know what’s going to happen,” Sharon said crossing her arms.
Max shrugged. “Even I don’t know why I haven’t given up.”
Anna frowned and looked out the window to watch Inukai and Destiny.
Inukai nodded once Destiny finished explaining her dream. Unbeknownst to him, Destiny had skipped the part with him and her in the dream and had instead made something up and looked away when she had lied. Once she told him the truth, she’d look back towards him.
“So, the world was red and black and you were drowning while dark demons went after you?” Inukai asked.
Destiny nodded looking down at the ground. That and you left me. You left me all alone and you weren’t there to rescue me.
“I’m sure it was just a nightmare and nothing to really worry about that much,” Inukai said smiling while deep down inside he was beginning to wonder about the dream and was becoming concerned.
Destiny nodded again and looked up at Inukai. “Umm, if I were to die, what would you do?”
“What?” Inukai asked blinking, shocked by her question. He shook his head and gave her a glare. “What do you mean if you were to die, what would I do?! What do you think I’d do?! Do you really think I could bear it if I were to lose someone else I l-care about?!”
Destiny blinked somewhat shocked. Did he just almost say what I think he almost said? She shook her head. Must’ve been my imagination. “I was just asking, sheesh. It’s not like I plan on dying, you know.”
Inukai looked down at the ground. “Just… stay close to me, okay?”
Destiny nodded and put her hand in Inukai’s. Inukai looked at her startled. Destiny smiled and Inukai smiled when he saw it. He then closed his own hand around hers and they both walked hand in hand back to Sesshomaru’s house.
Max cursed. “Here they come. Quick. Away from the window and act casual.”
Anna, Sharon, and Reiji nodded as they quickly ran over to the couch. Anna put the TV on and put it on Cartoon Network and Sharon watched whatever was on while Reiji began reading his Naruto volume 6 manga. Max sat down next to Anna and acted like he usually did and smiled when Destiny and Inukai entered the room. His smile only widened when he saw their hands.
“Well, I see you two have gotten over your differences,” Max said.
Inukai gave Max an annoyed look while Destiny looked down at the ground blushing and trying to take her hand away from Inukai’s, but he wouldn’t let her free. He smirked as he looked down at her and smiled mischievously when an idea came to him. He leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek, causing Destiny to blush even more. Inukai smirked again, released her, and went over to Max.
“I need to talk with you,” Inukai whispered then turned back around to face Destiny as the girls ran over to her. “Max and I are going to go talk for a while. We’ll leave later on.”
Destiny nodded as the two boys left.
Reiji frowned, closed his book, and stood up. “I’m going to go talk to Sesshomaru. I’ll see you three later.” He then left.
Once Sharon and Anna were sure the guys were gone and had dragged Destiny up to one of the rooms, they traded mischievous looks then looked towards Destiny.
“So, spill it. What’s going on between you and Inukai,” Anna said.
Destiny crossed her arms and stubbornly looked away as she began blushing again. “Nothing more than what’s going between you and Max, and Sharon and Reiji.”
“Nothing’s going on between Max and me!” Anna cried as she began blushing.
“Or Reiji and me!” Sharon said also beginning to blush.
Destiny raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? Then why are both of you blushing?” She smirked and the two were suddenly reminded of Inukai. “Face it. You both have feelings for them.”
Inukai sat down with his arms crossed and watched Max as he sat down on a bench. The two were on the front porch.
“What do you know of dreams?” Inukai asked.
Max blinked and gave Inukai a look. “What do you mean?”
Inukai rolled his eyes. “I mean, what do you know of dreams? Nightmares? Visions?”
“Umm, well, dreams? Well, they, umm, can be happy or sad. Nightmares can be scary and dreadful. Most nightmares are you worse fears. And visions? Visions usually are dreams that tell you of the past or future. Sometimes they’re warnings and sometimes they’re just trying to tell you something. The same can go for dreams and nightmares,” Max said.
“I don’t mean that,” Inukai said rolling his eyes again. “I mean like dream demons or something. You know, something that can control you or kill you in your dreams or something.”
Max frowned. “Well, there are some dream demons that can do things like that. Inukai, why are you so interested all of the sudden?”
“What do you mean ‘all of the sudden’?! Because I will and I can!” Inukai cried.
Max’s frown deepened. “You’re worried about something. I can tell. Don’t think I can’t.”
“I’m not worried about anything!” Inukai cried.
“Ahh, so you’re worried about Destiny,” Max said dawning with realization.
“I. Am. NOT!!” Inukai practically yelled.
“Ahh, but you are. There’s no other explanation for you being so defensive. You’re afraid something’s trying to kill because you don’t want to lose her like you did Kayko and Nina. I’m right, aren’t I?” Max said smiling.
Inukai growled and looked away. “Keh.”
Max nodded. “I see. It’s understandable that you’d be worried about your mate.”
“She’s not my mate!” Inukai cried and shot Max a glare as he began to blush.
“Oh. Yes. Sorry about that. Let me correct it,” Max said as his smile widened. “It’s understandable that you’d be worried about your future mate.”
Inukai growled, stood up, and got ready to tear the half wolf demon to pieces.
“I wouldn’t do that, my friend,” Max said. “There is no one else that can help you on such a topic and I’ll be sure to do a lot of deep research on the subject.”
Inukai instantly crossed his arms and nodded.
“Well, at least we don’t act like them,” Anna said as her and Sharon’s blushes disappeared.
“And I do?” Destiny asked raising an eyebrow.
Sharon and Anna nodded.
“Keh,” Destiny said looking away.
Anna and Sharon raised their eyebrows.
Destiny gasped and put a hand over her mouth. She then began blushing. “Oh my gosh. I do act like him!”
Anna and Sharon nodded and said, “See?”
Destiny glared at them. “You’re not helping!”
“And we’re supposed to?” Anna asked.
“Yes!” Destiny hissed.
Sharon smiled. “But it’s so fun.”
Destiny growled, stood up, and went over to the door. She gave Anna and Sharon one last glare then left the room. She then went down the stairs and went into the living room. Even if she was acting like Inukai, at least she wasn’t saying everything he said.
“Like all that cussing he uses,” Destiny muttered and looked towards the door darkly as though it were the cause for her to be acting like the half dog demon. She sighed and looked down at the ground as she sat down on the couch. She let out a sigh and lied down closing her eyes.
Inukai entered the house and muttered a few curses underneath his breathe. So much for relying on Max. He then spotted Destiny and sat down putting her head in his lap. He began stroking her soft brown hair and smiled when she muttered his name.
Destiny woke up to find herself in a world of darkness and blood. Her heart began to pound as she looked around for any sight of anyone familiar. She was greeted with dark demons. Her eyes widened in fear as she began panicking. She began sinking into the ground again as the demons approached her. She sunk deeper with each step they took. Soon, her head was only above the surface and the demons were standing over her.
Destiny heard a cry and saw the demons get cut in half. She watched in awe and once all the demons were gone, she saw who had been the one to kill them.
“Inukai…” Destiny breathed.
Inukai smirked, reached his hand into the ground, and pulled Destiny out of it.
The world turned back to normal with its vibrant colors and Destiny saw that she and Inukai were in a forest.
Destiny smiled and looked towards Inukai. “Arigato.”
Inukai crossed his arms. “No problem.”
Destiny put her hand in his and Inukai intertwined their fingers. Together, the two walked away, hand in hand, deeper into the forest.
Destiny smiled as her eyes opened. What a great dream. She then realized her head was lying down on something warm, very warm. She sniffed the air and calmed down when she realized it was only Inukai. She sat up and smiled warmly when she saw that Inukai had fallen asleep. She then frowned and looked around the room realizing it was night since the moon’s rays were shining through the window. She sighed and looked towards Inukai as he began whining and held out a hand trying to get whatever it was that was lying down on his lap back.
Destiny smiled mischievously and got off the couch causing Inukai to whine even more. She then went behind him and tweaked one of his dog-ears. She jumped back startled when she heard him purring then smiled even more. She continued tweaking his ears and listening to his purring. The purring made her feel somewhat relaxed if that were possible since she had thought she had already felt relaxed when she found that she had been lying down in his lap.
Destiny blushed when she realized where she had been lying down at. Oh my gosh! I was lying down on the guy’s lap! I was lying down on his lap! I was lying down on Inukai’s lap!! She suddenly felt more embarrassed then she had ever been in her life. And Anna, Sharon, Max, Reiji, Sesshomaru-sama, and Rin-sama all saw it!!! She stopped tweaking Inukai’s ears causing him to whine.
Destiny didn’t care. Her gaze went to the stairs. She then went up them and stopped in front of Anna and Sharon’s room. They are so paying for doing this to me. She turned the doorknob and opened it. She was about to enter the room when she a bunch of daggers in front of her standing on their hilts. She sweat dropped. Probably meant for Max. She jumped over the daggers and went towards the bed. She then stopped when she saw daggers also surrounded it.
Destiny frowned. Okay, then. Someone went a little overboard. She looked around the room and went over to the closet. She then grabbed out two pillows and smiled mischievously. She looked towards her two best friends as her idea formed in her head. Oh, yeah. She was going to get them good.
