Inuyasha: The Prophecies

Chapter Twenty

Nina opened her eyes to find herself in a room filled with light. Once her eyes adjusted, she began looking around to find it was completely empty.

“You stupid, stupid, naïve girl!” a woman’s voice cried.

Nina turned around to see… no one.

“You weren’t supposed to die. Grrrrr, this was not how it was supposed to be,” the woman continued. “That hanyou was supposed to get stabbed, but would live. But no, you had to go and be the hero so instead you died. You’re not supposed to die, you hear me?!”

                        “Who-who are you?” Nina asked.

“Who am I? Who am I?! The question should be, what in the world were you thinking?!” the woman said clearly irritated.

“What I was thinking?! I was thinking that Inukai shouldn’t have to die for me, that’s what I was thinking!” Nina cried.

“Once again, being the hero,” the woman said. “Listen, we can bring you back to life.”

“You can?” Nina asked as she became excited. She would be able to see Inukai again.

“Yes, I can, but it’ll cost you,” the woman said.

“What do you want?” Nina asked.

“If we bring you back, you’ll be in a completely different body and won’t have any memory of what has happened. However, your new body will be one that will suit you for your destiny,” the woman said.

Nina smiled sadly. “I’d do anything to see my friends and… Inukai again.”

The woman nodded. “So be it.”

                        “She’s dead,” Izumi said softly.

Inukai shook his head. “No, she’s not. She’s just resting.”

Izumi sighed and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Inukai, she’s gone now. You have to release her.”

Inukai growled and looked up at Izumi through narrowed eyes. “She’s alive, damn it!” He stood up and carried Nina in his arms bridal style. He then ran off jumping from building to building.

Izumi sadly shook her head and went to inform the others of what had happened.

                        “Nina’s what?!” Inuyasha cried.

“Dead,” Izumi said softly looking down at the ground.

Kagome felt tears fill her eyes again and wrapped her arms around Inuyasha’s waist and buried her face in his shirt. Inuyasha wrapped his own arm around her and began rubbing her arm to keep her calm. Albert, on the other hand…

“Waaaaaahhhhhh, Nina’s dead! Mommy’s dead!!!” Albert wailed at the top of his lungs.

Sharon, Anna, Max, and Reiji looked down at the young neko surprised by him calling Nina his mother. As for the rest, they knew Albert was a lot like Shippo and Nina was a lot like Kagome; therefore, meaning that the young demon would look up to Nina as his mother since she took care of him as one and they knew Nina at least thought of the neko as a younger brother.

Shippo looked towards the others helplessly unsure of how to calm Albert down.

Inuyasha just shook his head. “Let him cry. It’s actually good for him.” Inuyasha and Kagome then turned around and began walking away. Inuyasha looked over his shoulder and asked, “Where’s Inukai now?”

Izumi shook her head. “I don’t know, but he has Nina’s body with him.”

Inuyasha nodded then left with Kagome. All of them knew that Inukai would be taking this the hardest of them all, especially since he had witnessed her death and had been helpless to stop it.

Inukai stopped once he reached the forest and sat down crossed legged in front of a tree with Nina in his lap. He gently removed a few strands of hair off her face and then touched her lips when he remembered her kiss. He had kissed her several times before, but he hadn’t exactly pictured her last kiss as the one that would happen when she was dying. No. In fact, he never pictured her ever having a final kiss because he was sure they’d live together forever and would die at the same time. He smiled bitterly. Guess that’ll never happen, ne? His eyes then widened when he saw Nina’s body begin to glow. He looked at her puzzled, then, before he could do anything, her body vanished into thin air!

Inukai’s eyes widened even more and he looked around hoping the whole thing had been some trick and Nina would jump out of the bushes smiling and telling him that she really fooled him. Of course, he’d either yell at her for making him so worried and for making him feel like such a creep or instantly go up to her and hug her and kiss her a million times telling her how glad he was that she was really alive.

Inukai sighed and sat back down when he realized the whole thing wasn’t some big nightmare. He glared up at the dark cloudy sky as it began raining. “Why, damn it, why?! You took Nina away from me once then gave me Kayko then took her away from me, too! Now you reunite me with Nina then take her away again! Do you stinkin’ gods love torturing me?! Well, guess what? I’ve had enough of it! All of you can just go to Hell for all I care!” He then sighed and shook his head knowing it was hopeless. Nina, his Nina, was gone… forever.

An elderly lady walked down the road when she saw a younger girl lying on the ground. The lady rushed to her and kneeled down lifting the girl’s face up. The girl looked to be about fifteen years old, had long wavy brown hair that reached her waist, and two white dog-ears on top of her head. She also had claws and fangs. The clothes she wore were exactly like Kikyo’s and she was bare foot.

The lady sighed. “You poor, poor thing. People really shouldn’t treat one such as your self like this. It’s quite disrespecting, even if you are a hanyou.” She picked the girl up and carried her bridal style back to her village.

The young girl slowly opened her golden eyes that were more human like then dog demon. She groaned and sat up as she placed a hand on the side of her head.

The old lady looked over at her and gently smiled. “Ahh, you have awoken.” She went over to her wetting a small towel in cold water. “Lie back down, child.”

The girl obeyed and did just that as the lady placed the cloth on her forehead.

“Tell me, who might ye be?” the lady asked.

The girl closed her eyes as she tried to remember just who she was. “I’m…” Who am I again? Oh, yeah. That’s right. “I’m Destiny.”

The lady nodded. “I am the priestess, Ai.”

“Love?” Destiny asked and shook her head as she opened her eyes. “That’s… a nice name.”

                        The lady nodded.

Destiny then closed her eyes and fell back asleep.

                        “Destiny!” a voice cried.

Destiny turned around and smiled when she saw the eight-year-old girl, Lila, run over to her. “Yes?”

“Your concert’s gonna start soon,” Lila said.

Destiny nodded. “I’ll be there soon. Don’t worry.”

Inukai frowned and looked at the bartender. “Another sake, please.” It had been three months since Nina’s death. The band, Shikon no Tama was still together and was now looking for a new lead singer and had been for the past months. Inuyasha and Kagome were still on their journey to find and kill Naraku. Shippo was now staying with his family as well as Koga. Albert was staying with Shippo and his family. Talon went back home to take care of his mother. Sesshomaru and Rin also went back home. Seth and Alendria were living with Sesshomaru and Rin so they could hide from Naraku. Izumi was staying in her home often letting Inuyasha and Kagome stay the night at her house whenever they visited. Sharon and Anna were trying to get over Nina’s death and were the ones who decided they needed a new lead singer. Of course, there still wasn’t anyone who was eligible for the part. Reiji and Max were staying with Anna and Sharon. Sota had told them that he had enough of everyone getting hurt or killed and had said he no longer wanted to have anything to do with trying to rid the world of Naraku. And Inukai, he was still taking Nina’s death very hard. He always seemed to find himself at the bars drinking trying to get drunk, but it never worked and due to this, he hated himself for being half demon and for once wished he were human.

“Here you go, sir,” the bartender said handing him his drink.

“How much?” Inukai asked taking his drink.

“One hundred yen,” the bartender said rolling his eyes knowing that Inukai knew how much his drink was.

“Keh,” Inukai said and handed the bartender the yen. He then turned around in his seat to face the stage when the lights dimmed. Standing in the center of the stage was Destiny who now wore a lavender kimono with pink cherry blossoms on it and a magenta belt. She also wore white socks and Japanese style sandals.

Destiny gulped as she took a step forward and let out a breath. She then grabbed the microphone and got ready to sing her song, Every Heart.

If there were many tears falling down,

Every heart would become gentle.

If everybody expresses what they think,

Every heart can be satisfied.

I was frightened by the never-ending night,

So I prayed to the distant stars.

Inukai watched her finding that she seemed somewhat familiar. He swore he saw her looking in his direction a few times. He shook his head. No. That’s just the sake speaking. The chorus then began.

In endlessly repeating time,

We were searching for love,

Because we wanted to become stronger.

We look up to the faraway sky.

Destiny looked towards Inukai finding him somewhat familiar and began feeling a strange warmth spread through her body.

The two of us, smiling, meet here,

Every heart has a habit of receiving its dreams.

Sadness has no effect on us,

Every heart gains happiness when it flies.

Someday our souls will unite,

We will give peaceful approval.

At the second to the last line, Destiny and Inukai’s gazes met. Destiny had quickly looked away hoping she wasn’t blushing and sang the chorus.

In endlessly repeating time,

We know why we are living.

We go through the nighttime laughing,

Both of us are mourning, yet we walk on.

Destiny and Inukai locked gazes again. The two then quickly averted their gazes hoping the other hadn’t noticed it.

Memories of everything has settled,

This is a warm place to be.

The stars separate us from the future,

We are always so brilliant,

So shine.

Destiny felt her heart begin to pound when she saw Inukai looking at her again. She gulped and continued on with the song hoping no one was noticing that she was beginning to become nervous. Why do I feel this way? What’s wrong with me? She shook her head and continued with the chorus.

In endlessly repeating time,

We were searching for love,

Because we wanted to become stronger.

We look up to the faraway sky.

Inukai watched Destiny and growled. How was it that he could feel this way so soon? He loved Nina not this girl. And the way he was feeling was exactly how he felt around Nina.

Destiny gave Inukai a final gaze before she continued with the final chorus of the song.

In endlessly repeating time,

We know why we are living.

We go through the nighttime laughing,

Both of us are mourning, yet we walk on.

Destiny quickly left the stage after she finished the song.

Inukai’s eyes narrowed when he saw this. His eyes only narrowed all the more when he realized why she seemed so familiar and had caught her scent. She looked exactly like Nina with a few exceptions and had her scent! He growled and stood up to go have a talk with…. What was her name again?

“And that was Destiny Inoue,” the announcer said.

Oh, yeah. Destiny, that’s right, Inukai thought. Well, we’re about to have a little talk. He cracked his knuckles as he smirked. How dare she try to be Nina! I won’t let her get away with it!

Destiny left the building then jumped onto the roof of the one next to it. She then sat down letting out a sigh of relief. She put a hand over her pounding heart. “Just wait until the media hears about this. They’ll be all over him and me in no time. I won’t let him have to go through that pain.” She frowned as she looked up at the clear night sky. She turned her attention to the half moon and smiled slightly. “Just as long as you’re not a full moon, I’m happy. Not that I hate being human or anything.” She looked down at her hands that were in her lap. “It’s just, I feel so…. Depressed when I’m human.” She shook her head. “I don’t get it.”

“Keh, yeah, well, there are a lot of things that I don’t get, but you don’t see me complaining,” a voice suddenly said.

Destiny jumped startled and quickly turned around to attack whatever had snuck up on her only to stop when she saw it was just Inukai. She put a hand over her speeding heart trying to calm it down. Once it had, she growled. “Darn it! You scared me half to death! Are you trying to make me have a heart attack?!”

Inukai just smirked as he raised a clawed hand and went into a crouch getting ready to spring at her. “Actually, I’m just getting ready to kill you, that’s all, pup.”

“Pup?!” Destiny asked as her eyebrow began twitching. “I’m not a puppy!”

“Whatever,” Inukai said. “You’re as good as dead to me.” He cracked his knuckles. “So…” He began charging after her. “Be a good little girl and die!!”

Destiny’s eyes widened and she ducked causing Inukai to miss her. Then countered his next attack by tripping him and then clawing him at his sides, making sure that she didn’t damage him too much.

Inukai growled and placed a hand over his wound. “You bi-”

“I am not!” Destiny cried before Inukai could finish knowing exactly what he was going to say. “Besides, you’re the one who attacked me. I was just defending myself.”

“Liar,” Inukai muttered. He then glared at her. “Who are you really?! Why do you smell like the woman I loved?! Why do you look like her?! Why do you sound like her?! Why do you torture me so?!”

Destiny’s eyes widened when she heard all this. “I’m Destiny. And I don’t even know who in the world you’re talking about! And I wouldn’t even see how they could love you! And I’m sorry for torturing you! So, excuse me for being BORN!!!” She felt like ripping Inukai to shreds, but instead made her hands turn to fists and she looked down at the ground. She then began biting on her lower lip causing them to slightly bleed when one of her fangs punctured them.

Inukai smelled the blood and looked towards her to see that her hands were also beginning to bleed from her tightening her fists causing her claws to draw blood.

Destiny then felt the world begin to spin around her and closed her eyes letting out her breath slowly. She had experienced this feeling several times and knew looking only made it worse. Usually, she was seeing things that happened in the past, but nothing about her past ever appeared. Destiny opened her eyes when the spinning stopped and looked around to see she was in a forest. She then stopped when she saw a boy, no, Inukai sitting there on the ground holding something or someone. She took a few steps closer and stopped when she saw who was in his arms. Her face drained of all color as she took a step back. In his arms was her when she turned human!

Inukai gave Destiny a puzzled look when she suddenly stopped what she was doing and had began breathing in heavy pants. He waved a hand in front of her face to no avail. He then said her name a couple of times to see it still wasn’t working. He frowned and made her sit down. Something was wrong and he could feel it. He then saw her face pale and began panicking. He wasn’t sure why, but he was.

Destiny gulped and sat down next to Inukai looking at the human her form and back at Inukai. She then remembered what he had been yelling to her about.

~* Flashback*~

“Liar,” Inukai muttered. He then glared at her. “Who are you really?! Why do you smell like the woman I loved?! Why do you look like her?! Why do you sound like her?! Why do you torture me so?!”

~* End Flashback*~

He was talking about her. She must be the one he loved, Destiny thought sadly. She then saw the girl’s body disappear. Inukai stood up and began looking around excitedly and she saw the hope that lit his eyes. The hope soon vanished with the excitement and Inukai sat back down. He yelled up at the crying sky. Destiny felt guilt and pity for the hanyou then felt the world begin to spin around her again. She closed her eyes tightly waiting for it to stop.

Inukai looked down at Destiny concerned as her breathing began getting slower and slower. He swore she was about to not breathe at all, but jumped in surprise when she let out a gasp and sat up putting a hand over her pounding heart. Inukai regained his composure and gently put a hand on her shoulder. “You okay?”

Destiny nodded then gave him a glare. “What do you mean am I okay?! What happened to killing me?!” She stood up. “Well?!”

Inukai gave her a glare and stood up as well. “Well, I can’t kill someone if they don’t give me a fair fight! You think I want to kill someone who’s zoning out?!”

“Feh! Fine! I don’t care what you think!” Destiny said and ran off.

Inukai watched her leave and shouted, “Good riddance!!”

Anna and Sharon exchanged glances as Inukai paced the room muttering incoherently, but the two could catch a few curses from time to time.

Anna decided to break the hanyou out of his thoughts and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Everything’s wrong, that’s what!” Inukai cried throwing his arms up in frustration.

                        Anna and Sharon exchanged glances.

Sharon then asked, “What exactly do you mean?”

“I mean, the whole damn world is against me!” Inukai cried.

Sharon and Anna exchanged glances again then said, “Explain.”

Destiny entered her house angrily and slammed the door behind her. Ai looked up at her puzzled then stood up and went over to her.

                        “What troubles ye?” Ai asked.

Destiny growled. “A boy, that’s what.”

Ai raised an eyebrow. “Boy? Tell me, what ever do you mean?”

Destiny gave the elder woman a glare knowing exactly what she was thinking. “It’s not like that, Grandma. It’s completely different.”

Ai nodded. “Do tell me, child. What is it that troubles your mind?”

Destiny let out a sigh. “Well, you see, there was this boy at the concert and I was feeling a bit… awkward around him. Anyway, after the concert, I left. I was taking a walk when I bumped into him. He was rather rude to me and then… we were attacked by these rogue youkai! He protected me and everything and I got hurt once, but it’s healed now. He was all concerned about me and checked on me. I told him I was fine and then he started being rude again and I left.”

Ai nodded while Destiny looked down at the ground trying to hide her guilt since she lied to her “grandma”.

“Well, I’m going to go take a shower. Later!” Destiny quickly said and went to do just that and wondering about Inukai despite what she felt she should feel for him. She couldn’t keep his concerned face out of her head. Maybe he really does care, Destiny thought as she stepped into the shower. She smiled. Maybe we’ll meet again. When that happens, I’ll be ready. Just you wait.
