Hey, guys. Sorry for the long wait. I’ve been really busy. Plus, I had writer’s block. But I’m back now so, enjoy.
Inuyasha: The Prophecies
By: Guardian Angel
Chapter Nineteen
Anna frowned when she saw Max go over to the table she and the others had been eating at. She sighed and began debating rather to go over to him or leave him as is. She wanted to know why he had just acted like that. She went over everything that had happened in her head. Max had given her a questioning look, he had realized something, he had smirked, she had growled and glared at him, and then he had stopped smirking and had gotten all depressed leaving her to question what was wrong with him! Well, fine then. It’s not like I really care about him anyway. Though, at the same time, she knew she cared about him a lot, maybe more than she wanted to.
Just as Inuyasha and Kagome reached the door, Inuyasha caught the scent of a very familiar demon. He put an arm to stop Kagome from leaving the restaurant. Kagome looked up at him puzzled.
“Get Shippo and the others and tell them to get ready to fight,” Inuyasha said.
Kagome continued giving him a puzzled look, but obeyed.
Koga sighed once he reached the doorstep of a house. He raised a finger to ring the doorbell when the door opened. Standing there where the door had once been was a young woman with brown hair and green eyes. She put her hands on her hips as her eyes narrowed.
“And where have you been all this time?!” the girl demanded. “Well?!”
“Umm, well, umm…” Koga said unsure of what to say.
“You were off trying to find that other girl again, weren’t you?! Weren’t you?!” the woman demanded pointing a threatening finger at Koga’s chest.
“Umm, well, umm…”
“I knew it! You were!” the woman cried before Koga could think of an explanation for his absence. The woman looked down at the ground as tears filled her eyes. “Is it her you want to be with? Even though you are my mate, you still want her?”
Koga sighed and wrapped his arms around her waist drawing her into a hug. “Ayume, you of all people should know that’s not true.”
Ayume glared at him and broke out of his embrace. “Liar. I know you claimed her as your woman despite the fact that you had promised me that I’d be your mate. You did the same to that Kagome girl. The only reason you left Kagome was because of Inuyasha. And then you picked that other girl afterwards. When she had left, you picked me. We became mates. We are bonded. We are one. You-you-grrr! Leave me!” With that, Ayume shut the door.
Koga sighed as he turned to leave. He then heard a scream.
“He’s here,” Reiji said.
“Who’s here?” Sharon asked.
“And he’s brought company, too,” Reiji said.
“Who?” Sharon asked confused.
“Just get ready to fight,” Reiji said and unsheathed his sword.
Sharon nodded and got ready to fight.
Magatsuhi began charging after the girl. The girl stood her ground and got ready to block the attack. Nina and Inukai continued watching unsure of what to do. Magatsuhi swung his blade. The girl blocked it with her sword then kicked Magatsuhi in the stomach sending him flying into the wall. The girl then went into a defensive position waiting for Magatsuhi to get up. Magatsuhi stood up wiping away the blood from his lower lip.
“Just who are you?” Magatsuhi asked.
The girl smiled. “I am a friend to the light, savior to the innocent, foe to the darkness, and vanquisher of the evil.”
Magatsuhi rolled his eyes. “Your name, stupid.”
The girl’s eyes narrowed and she growled. “Well, stupid isn’t my name. My name’s Izumi.”
Nina and Inukai exchanged glances then looked towards Izumi with wide eyes. She no longer was the little innocent half dog demon girl the two had known and met back in Feudal Japan. She was now a fully-grown half dog demon young woman the two had been reunited with in present day Japan.
“Izumi?” Magatsuhi questioned. I’ve heard that name before. She’s the daughter of…someone. Who was it? If only I could remember.
Izumi frowned. “Aren’t you going to attack me?”
Magatsuhi smirked. “Ever heard ‘patience is a virtue’?”
“Yes. Just asking because if you don’t start attacking me, I’m afraid I will be the one to attack you first,” Izumi said.
Magatsuhi frowned and began charging after Izumi. Izumi jumped over him and kicked him in the back of the head. Magatsuhi fell face flat to the ground. Izumi quickly sheathed her sword, took her bow off her shoulder, grabbed out an arrow, and took aim.
Inukai heard a cry and looked up to see Bankotsu. His eyes widened and he looked towards Nina who was unaware of Bankotsu approaching her getting ready to kill her. He quickly ran over to Nina, pushed her out of the way, and blocked Bankotsu’s attack. The two snarled in each other’s faces.
Nina watched what was going on, unsure of what to do now since she was weaponless.
Anna sighed and went over to Max. “Max, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” Max said not turning to face her.
Anna began hands turned to fists as she tried to resist the urge to hit Max on the head. She knew something was wrong rather Max admitted it or not. She could sense it. “Well, if nothing’s wrong then why are you acting so depressed?”
“I’m not depressed,” Max said.
“Yes, you are,” Anna muttered.
“No, I’m not. See?” Max said turning around smiling. He then turned his back to her again.
Anna knew that smile. She had seen it on Nina’s face before. It was a fake smile, one that many used when they didn’t want anyone worrying about them. Anna had become an expert on knowing when it was a real smile and a fake smile. She growled, went in front of Max, and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt looking directly into his shocked eyes. “Listen, you, I know something’s wrong and you had better tell me now because I’m worried about you and I don’t even know why!”
Max continued looking at her shocked. Anna ignored the fact that his eyes were beginning to widen. She wanted to know why he was acting depressed. None of what had happened in their conversation had made sense. She had played through it in her head several times and still couldn’t find out why he was depressed.
Max eyes filled with determination and pushed Anna crying out, “Get down!”
Anna’s eyes filled with surprise as she fell to the ground, Max standing in front of her with his back to her.
“You know what?” Albert asked.
“What?” Shippo asked boredly. Fancy restaurants weren’t his type of thing. He preferred to be eating at his house with his wife and children or having a picnic, but most of all, he preferred to eat with Kagome, Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, and Kirara the way they all used to back in Feudal Japan. He sighed and watched as Albert began talking about how much of a jerk Inukai was and how he should leave Nina alone. Shippo gave the small cat demon a smile. Albert reminded him so much of how he was when he was little. Nina and Inukai were Kagome and Inuyasha, Albert was him, Anna and Max were Sango and Miroku, and Seth was Sesshomaru. If Inuyasha had had a long lost sister or something like that, Sharon would’ve been it. And Reiji would have just been their new friend.
Shippo then heard cracking and looked up at the ceiling to see it was coming from there. His eyes widened as the ceiling began to crumble. He did the first thing that came to mind. Save Albert.
“I still can’t believe you’re actually going against your father,” Alendria said.
“Neither can I,” Seth said.
“What made you change your ways?” Alendria asked.
Seth looked out the window. “I really don’t know what made me change my ways, but…” He looked back towards Alendria. “The one I’ve chosen seems to be the right path.”
Alendria smiled and nodded. “Of course it does.”
Just then, the two heard the ceiling give way. Seth’s eyes widened and Alendria stayed where she was shocked. Seth pushed her and went over to shield her from the rubble and debris.
Izumi shot her arrow. Magatsuhi quickly got up and spread his hands apart from each other as dark light began to surround him. The arrow stopped and fell to the ground once it had hit the dark shield.
“Ha! Did you actually think I’d be that off guard? How naïve,” Magatsuhi said.
“Naïve? Nay. I am not the naïve one,” Izumi said. She then smiled. “Nor am I the forgetful one.” She grabbed out another arrow and took aim.
Magatsuhi rolled his eyes. “What good is that going to do you?”
“A lot of good,” Izumi said as her arrow began glowing pink.
Magatsuhi’s eyes widened. That arrow, it’s the arrow of a miko. She has miko powers. How can that be?! She is but a hanyou. In order to be a priestess as well, her mother would have to be a priestess and that would mean her father was the demon. He let out a gasp. There’s only one priestess and one demon that I know of that are like that which means- “You’re the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome.”
“‘Bout time you got it. Too bad, though. Bye,” Izumi said and released her arrow.
No! Nina thought. She got up, grabbed a trashcan lid, and threw it in the direction of the arrow.
Izumi saw this and put a hand up. The trashcan lid fell to the ground. She then looked towards Nina disappointingly until she saw Bankotsu and Inukai going at it.
Bankotsu swung his halberd down at Inukai. Inukai jumped over it and kicked him in the face. Bankotsu quickly blocked it and kicked Inukai in the stomach sending him crashing into the wall. He then went over to Inukai smirking as he pointed the end of his halberd at Inukai’s throat.
“Looks like you will now die,” Bankotsu said.
Anna looked up at Max and moved to see what he was blocking her from to see Genkotsu. Her eyes then widened when she saw blood going down Max’s right arm. He’s hurt! She then stood up and saw that one of Genkotsu’s saucers was covered in blood. That’s Max’s blood! He shielded me and got cut instead. “Oh, Max.”
Max looked at Anna from the corner of his eye. All right. She’s not hurt. That’s good. He then turned his attention back to Genkotsu. “It’s wrong to hurt a lady.”
Genkotsu ignored him and looked towards Anna.
Anna frowned and looked around for any sign of the rest of the Shichinintai. She then spotted Jakotsu who came over to her pointing his sword at her.
“Why, hello. Haven’t seen you in quite some time now,” Jakotsu said. He then smiled. “Which means I can finally kill you.”
“In your dreams,” Anna muttered as she stood up.
“I’ll kill you just like I killed, umm, let me see. Who was it that I killed again? Oh, yeah. I’ll kill you like I did Sakura,” Jakotsu said. “Genkotsu had already killed Sango so I didn’t get a chance to kill her.” He pouted. “And Bankotsu tried to kill Inuyasha, but Inuyasha fought back. Renkotsu’s the one who killed Miroku. Mukotsu killed Kai, but Nina killed him. Umm, well, who really cares? Point is, you’re about to die. End of story.”
“Just try,” Anna said grabbing out a few ninja stars from one of her pockets.
Kagome ducked as Suikotsu clawed at her. She shot him a glare and looked around for a bow and a quiver filled with arrows. Great. Just great. I’m running away from a man-killing human with claws and I’ve got nothing to defend myself with! Just wonderful, Kagome. You’re going to die and there’s nothing you can do to prevent it. She screamed and quickly ran out of the way as Suikotsu clawed at her again. “Inuyasha!”
Inuyasha dodged
Kagura’s wind “blades” and glared at her. “Get away from me, wind witch!”
Kagura smirked. “And what are you going to
do about it, hanyou? I think you’ve gotten weaker these past five hundred six
years.”
Inuyasha growled and used his Claws of Blood. Kagura smirked all the more and swung her fan sending the “claws” back at him. Inuyasha shielded himself with Tessaiga.
“Keh, is that all you got?” Inuyasha asked now smirking.
Kagura glared at him and used her Dance of the Wind Blades again.
“Inuyasha!” a voice cried.
Inuyasha recognized the voice and cursed. “Damn it. Kagome’s in trouble.” He shot Kagura a glare. “I’ll deal with you later.” He quickly ran off with all the speed he had. Kagome, hang in there.
Koga ran into Ayume’s house to see Demon holding up Ayume by the neck. “Let her go.”
Demon looked towards Koga and smiled. “And if I don’t?”
“You die!” Koga cried and began charging after Demon.
Demon frowned and pushed Ayume to the side. He then unsheathed his sword and began charging after Koga.
Reiji and Sharon turned around to see Nekono and Nekaira.
“So, we’re fighting you two, eh?” Sharon asked smiling. “Heh, then bring it on.” She got into a fighting stance.
“Yeah, I’m sure we’ll have a grand time,” Reiji said also smiling.
Nekono and Nekaira unsheathed their blades.
“I hate all dog demons,” Nekaira said sending a glare in Sharon’s direction.
“Yeah, well, everyone seem to love men’s best friend,” Sharon said. “You know, except for you neko youkais and house cats, but some cats and cat demons happen to like us, too.”
“Shut up,” Nekaira snapped.
“That’s very rude, you know,” Reiji said.
“No one asked you, half breed,” Nekono said glaring at the half dragon demon.
“Maybe not,” Reiji said shrugging, “but I’ll talk when you are rude to my friends. And, trust me, that was rude.”
Nekono hissed. “Die!” He then began charging after Reiji followed closely behind by Nekaira.
Nina looked around for something, anything that would save Inukai. I can’t let him die. I won’t let him die. She then saw a pipe in the corner and was about to go over to it when she heard Izumi speaking.
“Release him,” Izumi said her voice void of all emotion.
“And if I don’t?” Bankotsu asked as he started smirking all the more.
Izumi lifted her head up as the wind began blowing. Nina and Inukai traded glances when they saw her face then looked back towards Izumi. Izumi’s eyes were now blood red while the pupil was icy blue. Her claws were longer and sharper as well as her fangs. She snarled and threw her sword, bow, and quiver down to the ground.
“If you don’t release him, you’ll have to fight me,” Izumi said going down into a crouch.
“Heh, like you could last,” Bankotsu said still smirking. “Fine. I’ll release him, but in exchange, I get to fight you.”
Izumi growled while Inukai ran over to Nina ready to protect her from Magatsuhi. Nina gave him a look and stepped to the side. Inukai turned around to give her a glare.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Inukai demanded.
“Trying to save you, you moron!” Nina cried.
“How?! By getting your self killed?!” Inukai yelled.
Nina was about to answer him when he put a finger over her lips, his eyes filled with determination and something she rarely saw in his eyes. Something she had never seen in his eyes. She bit back what she was going to say out of fear. She was afraid of what she was seeing in his eyes.
“If you think being dead is going to save me, then you’re sadly mistaken,” Inukai said his voice now soft but firm. “I’d rather be dead instead of you.”
“I’m not going to die,” Nina said looking away not wanting to look at Inukai’s eyes anymore. If she did any longer, she might just give into Inukai’s request. She shook her head. No. I won’t let him win. I have to do this.
Inukai sighed in defeat and looked back towards Izumi hoping she’d be able to convince Nina not to go to Magatsuhi.
“Very well,” Izumi said cracking her knuckles. “But let me warn you.” She smirked. “It’s your death!” She then began charging after Bankotsu and went in to strike him when he put up his halberd to block her attack.
“You’ll have to do better than that, hanyou,” Bankotsu said.
“Feh,” Izumi said and went in for the kill again.
Magatsuhi slowly stood up and went over to Nina and Inukai. He looked from his sword to Inukai as his eyes filled with bloodlust.
Nina felt a shiver go down her spine and saw Magatsuhi slowly approaching her and Inukai. Her eyes then widened when he saw what Magatsuhi was planning. Magatsuhi smiled and went in for the kill. Inukai turned around as his eyes widened in surprised. He knew he wouldn’t have time to shield himself and so did Nina and Magatsuhi. Nina cried out Inukai’s name and quickly ran in front of him embracing him as she closed her eyes and buried her face in his shirt as her hold on his shirt tightened bracing herself for the pain. Magatsuhi stabbed her in her left shoulder going through flesh and bone all the way to the other side.
Nina gulped as she felt tears of pain fill her eyes. She shook her head. I have to be strong… She looked up at Inukai instantly regretting it when her eyes met his. His eyes were now filled with dread, guilt, and pain. She let out a sigh and looked away also quickly regretting both actions when she felt the pain go through her body again.
Inukai looked down at her no longer sure of what to do and gave Magatsuhi a death glare.
Magatsuhi looked at his sword then at Nina clearly surprised. He then took his sword out of her body as she let out a whimper of pain apparently trying not to cry out in pain. He then looked towards Bankotsu who jumped away from Izumi when she was about to claw him again and landed beside Magatsuhi. Bankotsu nodded and the two disappeared.
Genkotsu and Max were about to go at each other’s throats when Genkotsu let out a defeated sigh and looked towards Jakotsu who was about to go in for the kill.
“We must go now,” Genkotsu said.
Jakotsu groaned. “Ahhh, but I’m not done yet.”
Genkotsu frowned.
Jakotsu let out a sigh and nodded. The two then disappeared as Anna and Max traded bewildered glances.
“Now what was that about?” Max asked.
Anna’s face filled with horror as she came upon a realization. “You don’t think-”
Max sighed and looked out the window. “I hope not, Anna. I hope not.”
Kagome tripped and fell down. She then looked up as her eyes widened in horror. She looked away as Suikotsu went in for the kill closing her eyes and gritting her teeth ready for the pain she would soon feel. Inuyasha… She felt tears fill her eyes. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. She waited several minutes and looked up when she never felt the pain. She then heard a familiar voice cry out her name and looked up to see Inuyasha land beside her. His eyes were filled with concern.
“Are you okay?” Inuyasha asked gently putting a hand on her shoulder.
Kagome nodded and embraced him as she began crying. “Inuyasha, I thought he was going to kill me. I thought I was never going to see you again. I thought you’d hate me if I left you. I’m so sorry!”
Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her pulling her close to him and began stroking her hair no longer caring if the Shichinintai and Kagura were still around. “Shhh, it’s okay, Kagome. I’m here now. Nothing’s going to hurt you.”
Demon jumped away from Koga frowning. He then cursed and gave Koga a look. “I have to go now, but know this, wolf. This battle is not finish.” He then disappeared.
Koga growled and ran over to Ayume. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Ayume said looking away. “You might as well leave and go back to that other girl of yours.”
Koga sighed and embraced her. “You are my mate. You are the only one I love. ‘Sides, that mutt’s trying to win her heart. Not that I think he’d actually succeed.”
Ayume looked up at his as tears of anger and sorrow filled her eyes. Koga knew then he had said the wrong thing. “That’s the only reason you have me, isn’t it?! You love her and I’m only your back up in case something goes wrong! I hate you Koga! I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! I despise you!” As she said this, she began pounding her fists on his chest. “You say you love me, but you don’t and you never will.” She calmed down and rested her head on his shoulder.
Koga began stroking her hair and placed a kiss on her temple. “No, koibito, I love you and only you. I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you. Please forgive me even though I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t.”
Ayume nodded and looked up at Koga. “Hai. I forgive you, Koga-kun.”
Albert looked at the rubble with wide fearful eyes. He had just been standing there a few minutes ago when he heard Shippo cry out his name and pushed him out of the way. Tears filled his eyes. “Shippo?” He crawled over to the rubble poking it. “Shippo?” He gulped as he began crying. “Waaaaahhhhh, Shippo’s dead and it’s all my fauuuulllttt!!!!!”
“Don’t cry, Albert,” a voice said.
Albert gulped and looked at debris with wide scared eyes. His eyes widened even more when he saw something lift up the rubble and throw it to the side. He smiled when he saw it was Shippo and jumped into his arms.
“I thought you were dead and-and-” Shippo said trying not to cry again.
“Shhh, it’s okay. I’m perfectly alive. See?” Shippo said trying to get the neko to look at his face.
Albert nodded and smiled. “Arigato for saving me.”
“Anytime,” Shippo said also smiling.
Nina felt her knees become weak and fell down only to be rescued by Inukai’s strong arms that were now gently wrapped around her waist. He slowly kneeled down as Nina sat down as well hiding her face in his shirt again. “Gomen ne, Inukai. I just didn’t want to see you die.”
“It’s okay, Nina. Just don’t move. We’ll get you fixed up right away,” Inukai said trying not to cry.
Nina shook her head ignoring the pain that went through her and looked up at Inukai meeting his eyes again. She then lowered one hand to grab one of his and lifted it up to Inukai’s heart intertwining her fingers with his. “No, Inukai. There won’t be any healing for me, I fear. I only regret one thing.”
Inukai looked at her with pleading eyes.
Nina slightly smiled and reached up to tweak one of his ears. “I only regret that I could not tell you one thing.” She looked away not sure if she could bring herself to say what she was going to say next. She then said in a very soft voice that Inukai could barely hear the words, “I love you.”
Inukai looked at her with wide eyes and his heart suddenly began pounding. “Wha-what?”
Nina looked up at him and said in a louder voice, “I love you, Inukai.” She placed a hand on his cheek as tears filled her eyes. “And I always will.” She leaned towards him and brushed her lips against his. She then pulled away before Inukai could respond to it. Inukai drew her closer to him. Last thing she saw was Izumi approaching them before she found herself in darkness.
Inukai looked down at Nina and placed a kiss on her temple. He then let out a sigh as he tried to keep himself from crying. He then whispered, “I love you, too.”
