Chapter Eighteen

Sharon’s eyes widened. “You’re half dragon demon?”

Reiji nodded as he looked at her again.

“Sugoi,” Sharon said in an awed voice. “Was your father the demon?”

“No. My mother was,” Reiji said looking back up at the sky. “She was the most beautiful creature I ever laid eyes on.”

~*Flashback*~

Reiji, who was about five years old, ran over to his mother, his eyes filled with tears. “Mama, they called me a bad name!” He quickly jumped into his mother’s arms as she began stroking his hair and whispering words of comfort to her dear beloved son.

She was indeed very beautiful. She had long black hair that was tied back in a ponytail, golden eyes that were felt with warmth and kindness, small fangs, elfish ears, and pale creamy white skin. She wore red lipstick, sky blue eye shadow, a long white kimono covered with red roses and green vines, several more layers of kimono that were the colors peach, light pink, and magenta, white socks, and Japanese style sandals.

“Shh, don’t listen to a word they say. None of it’s true,” Reiji’s mother said softly.

“They called me a half breed,” Reiji said looking up at his mother into her eyes as though they were his only lifeline to survive.

~*End Flashback*~

“She died when I was six,” Reiji said his expression turning to one of pain when he remembered that day.

~*Flashback*~

Reiji ran towards a village with all his might as hard as he could as though his very life depended on it. He soon reached the end of the forest; the smell of smoke even stronger than it was when he first caught whiff of it. His eyes widened when he saw the scene before him. The entire village was caught up in an inferno. There was nowhere he looked that wasn’t up in flames. The entire sky was covered in big dark clouds of smoke. Reiji ignored the smoke as it began going his way due to the wind blowing in his direction. He felt tears begin to fill his eyes and ran into the burning village not caring what would happen to him.

“Mama! Mommy! Mom!” Reiji cried searching the entire village for her. After numerous times, he finally gave up and sat down in the middle of the village crying his eyes out. Soon, he cried himself to sleep. Morning came and the flames disappeared leaving the village in ashes. Reiji awoke when he heard an ear-shattering cry that sent shivers down his spine as well as made his heart break in two. His eyes widened with fear as well as grief when he heard the cry again and began running towards the direction it was coming from, not wanting to see what was there and yet knowing that he must know what it was. Soon, he stopped and his eyes widened even more that it looked as though his eyeballs would fall right out of their sockets.

Before Reiji stood a gigantic ferocious and yet beautiful dragon. The dragon was covered in shiny blue scales, had fangs, and golden eyes. Its belly was smooth and a deep shade of rose pink. Its wings were spread out wide and were covered with a thick hide of a deep shade of rose as well. The eyes were the ones that began to hunt Reiji’s very soul. They were filled with a slight warmth and kindness, and yet at the same time, they held sorrow and hate.

The dragon turned to face Reiji as he began to back up in fear and disbelief. It was then that his eyes widened more than he ever thought they could when he spotted a spear sticking out of where the dragon’s heart would be. His eyes softened and he went up to the dragon ignoring the low growls of warning it was making. He began climbing up onto the dragon towards the spear while the dragon shot him a glare. He ignored it and finally reached the spear. With strength he never knew he had, he pulled the spear out. He quickly threw it to the side as the dragon began thrashing about violently. Reiji held onto the dragon’s tough hide with a grip tight enough as though it were his only lifeline. The dragon then began falling to the ground and began changing shape as well. By that point, Reiji wasn’t sure what to do anymore. The dragon was just mere inches from the ground and if he didn’t move fast, he would be a pancake. The dragon seemed to sense this, and soon fully transformed as blue light began surrounding the injured creature and half demon boy. Reiji closed his eyes hoping this wasn’t the end of him. Soon, he felt two arms holding him up and a figure burying their face into his hair.

He looked up with large inquiring eyes and saw his mother’s beloved gaze. She gave him a sad smile as she caressed his cheek.

“It’s okay now, honey. Mommy’s here now,” his mother said.

Reiji nodded and began sobbing into her chest. She began stroking his hair whispering words of comfort to him. It was then that Reiji felt warm liquid seeping into his hair and onto his face. He opened his eyes trying to find where the liquid was coming from. When he did, his eyes widened in horror. His mother was bleeding in the same place the dragon had been bleeding. It was then that he realized that his mother had been the dragon. He quickly got out of her embrace and stared at her through wide, shocked, fearful, eyes. His mother gave him a puzzled look then looked down at her wound. Her eyes widened and she looked back up at Reiji.

“Honey, Mom’s just injured. I’ll be fine. Now, come over here before-” Her eyes widened even more while Reiji felt a shiver go down his spine. His mother looked towards him again with wide fearful eyes that a mother could only give their children when their lives were in danger. “Get out of here, Reiji. You must.”
                                    “B-but Mama-”

“No buts,” Reiji’s mother said in a calm voice. “You must leave or you’ll get killed.”

                                    “But-”

“Ahhh, so this is where you have been hiding from me,” a somewhat evil voice said.

Reiji’s mother and him turned around to see a figure wearing a baboon pelt. His mother’s eyes first widened with horror then determination as she stood in front of Reiji refusing to let the figure see her son. Reiji more than welcomed her protection since he sensed a deep evil presence within the being.

“Get out of here,” his mother said softly so that only he could hear her.

“No,” Reiji said looking up at her with eyes only a child could give to their mother when they were worried about them.

“Go,” his mother said in a voice that began to waver.

                                    “No,” Reiji said more determinedly.

                                    “Now!” his mother hissed.

Just then, both demons heard a cry and turned around to see the figure jumping over Reiji’s mother and going in for the kill on Reiji!

Reiji’s mother’s eyes widened and she cried out, “No! Not him! He’s just a child!”

The figure stopped and turned around to face her. “You’re right. He’s just a child. There’s no fun at all in killing someone who won’t fight back.” He then smiled. “So, I shall take your life instead.” Before either her or Reiji could do anything, the figure sliced off her head.

Reiji’s eyes widened in fear then turned to anger and hate as he began seeing red. “You-You killed mother.” He began biting his lower lip drawing blood. “How dare you.” His hands turned to fists. “How dare you!” He began charging after the figure forgetting about everything except avenging his mother’s death.

The figure only smiled as he began floating up in the air. “We shall meet again when you are older. Oh. And you may call me Naraku.” With that, he disappeared.

Reiji fell to the ground crying. After an hour, he gave his mother a proper burial, went back to crying then stood up with determination swearing to get revenge on Naraku.

~*End Flashback*~

Though Reiji hadn’t noticed it, his hands were in fists.

Sharon gave him a concerned look and softly said while looking down at the ground, “I’m sorry to bring up bad memories.”

“It’s okay,” Reiji said. “You didn’t know.”

Sharon nodded and looked up at the sky wondering how Reiji’s mother had died.

Nina smiled as she and Inukai walked hand in hand back to the restaurant. She couldn’t wait to see the looks on Sharon and Anna’s faces when she told them that she had kissed Inukai. She then began blushing. Well, I’ll tell them once I quit blushing like this! I mean, if I can’t even think about it without blushing, think of how it’d be if I DID tell them!

Inukai hadn’t taken notice of Nina’s expression and was continuing to walk down the alley when he heard noise coming from behind the garbage cans. He ignored it, guessing it was a cat, rat, or something. It wasn’t until Nina screamed and grabbed onto the sleeve of his shirt, that he began paying attention. He quickly unsheathed his blade snarling as Nina’s eyes widened with pure horror, her grip on his shirt tightening. Standing before them was a dark figure.

“You are such a hentai,” Anna muttered.

“Ahh, but isn’t that why you love me?” Max asked giving her his most charming smile.

Anna felt herself begin to blush and quickly looked away muttering, “I don’t love you. You aren’t my type. Now, back off before I hurt you.”

Max let out a defeated sigh and looked towards Talon. He smiled and walked up to Sharon’s older brother. “You know, I think your sister has a thing for the new guy.”

Talon gave him a look but didn’t say anything.

Anna saw Max talking to Talon and began freaking out. She quickly went over to Max and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt before he could say anything more. “What are you doing?”

“Talking to Talon,” Max said becoming puzzled.

                                    “Well, don’t,” Anna hissed.

“Why?” Max asked becoming even more puzzled.

“Because-because-just because!” Anna cried angry with herself for not thinking of a better reason.

Max raised a questioning eyebrow. He then looked from Anna to Talon then back to Anna his eyes widening with realization. He smirked and said, “Ahh, it all becomes clear.”

“What?!” Anna said growling and giving him the best glare she could that would even send the undead back to their graves.

Max let out a sigh as his smirk disappeared. “It’s nothing.” His gaze averted to the ground and he began walking away.

Anna gave him a puzzled look and shook her head. I’ll never understand him.

“So, just what did you mean by you’re here to make sure I don’t do anything stupid?” Seth asked as he began eating his cheesecake.

Alendria frowned as she ate her own cheesecake. “Well, who knows if you could be claiming other demons.”

Seth began slightly blushing and looked away hoping Alendria hadn’t noticed it. “Oh, please, all the demons here are a waste of time.” He then looked back towards Alendria once his blush was gone. “Besides, I can’t claim another demon now that I’ve already claimed mine.” At this, he slightly smiled.

Alendria also smiled. “Yes, and I’m sure she’d get very mad if you tried anything with anyone else.”

“Yes, I’m sure she would,” Seth said his smile just getting a little wider.

“You’re not actually going to kill Koga if he comes anywhere near Nina and Inukai, are you?” Kagome asked in worried tone of voice.

“Of course I am. He doesn’t belong with Nina and that wimpy wolf should know that by now,” Inuyasha said. “Besides, he has a wife, doesn’t he?”

“Ahh-well, yeah, I guess,” Kagome said giving up on trying to convince Inuyasha not to hurt Koga, of course, there was still a certain word she hadn’t used for such a long time that she could start using on him again if he chose to hurt Koga.

“Exactly and how would you feel if I ran off to other women and claiming them as mine? Huh?” Inuyasha asked giving her a look that plainly said “You’d kill me, that’s what you’d do.”

“Nah. I’m not worried about that,” Kagome said while thinking, Of course, if Kikyo was still around, then I’d know you’d run off to her. She and me are the only ones you’d go to. But you’d choose her over me, I know you would.

“Besides, he claimed his own woman and he’s not being very loyal to her. Do you realize what happens to either of the mates when they’re not loyal to one another?!” Inuyasha said trying to make his point clear. “I mean, the guy gave up on you and went after Nina. Then he claims some woman and stays with her until he finds Nina again then runs back to her. How do you think Nina would feel if she had fell in love with that wolf and then found some other girl and went after her?!”

She’d feel just like I did whenever you ran off to Kikyo, Kagome thought. “Well, just what does happen to a mate when their other is around not being loyal to them?”

Inuyasha’s expression turned dark. “When that happens, it really depends on who’s the mate. Say you’ve got a demon and a human that became mates and the demon starts messing around. Well, the human would be feeling horrible pain that could even kill them. If it were a demon and a half demon, then the half demon would be feeling pain, but would live. If they were both demons, it’d depend on the gender. If it were the female that was fooling around, the male would be feeling pain and would kill the one that was fooling around with his mate. If it was the male that was fooling around, the female would feel horrible pain, but die silently not letting on what was going on with her to anyone.”

“What if it was the human or half demon that was fooling around?” Kagome asked.

“Well, either way, the demon mate would kill the one messing with their mates no matter what gender they are,” Inuyasha said.

Kagome nodded then asked, “And if it was a human and a half demon?”

“As in a human and half demon being mates?” Inuyasha asked even though he knew it was very rare since both, full-blooded demons and humans, hated half demons.

                                    Kagome nodded.

“Well, if the human was messing around, then the half demon would either kill the one they were messing with or slowly die in the shadows. If it was a human, they’d slowly die and would keep it hidden from their mate,” Inuyasha said. “Why do you ask?”

“No reason,” Kagome said shaking her head. Except, that would probably happen to me if Kikyo were still around. She looked up at him giving him a sad smile then took his hand in hers and began walking towards the doors.

The dark figure came out of the shadows. It was then that Nina and Inukai got a good look at the intruder. They saw that it was none other than Magatsuhi. Magatsuhi smiled and held out his hand.

“The jewel, give it to me,” Magatsuhi said.

Nina gave him a look debating rather to tell him that she didn’t have it anymore or to trick him by saying she’d never give it to him. Of course, both were true. She sighed, looked down at the ground and said, “If I give it to you, will you leave everyone else and me alone?”

Inukai looked towards Nina with wide shocked eyes like she was crazy.

Magatsuhi gave her a cocky grin. “Yes. I shall leave everyone else alone if you give me the Shikon no Tama, but…”

“But?” Nina asked looking up at Magatsuhi.

Inukai growled and glared down at Nina. What the hell is she thinking?! She can’t give that bastard the jewel!

“You must come with me as well,” Magatsuhi said.

“What?!” Inukai demanded glaring and growling at Magatsuhi.

Nina slowly nodded and came from behind Inukai. She then began going towards Magatsuhi.

Inukai quickly grabbed her by the elbow. “What the hell are you doing?!”

“Saving you and everyone else!” Nina cried yanking her arm away from his grasp.

“You’re not saving anyone by handing over the Jewel of Four Souls!” Inukai cried.

“Yes, I am! Now, I’m going to go,” Nina said turning her back to him and began going towards Magatsuhi again.

“No, you’re not!” Inukai cried grabbing her by the hand this time keeping a firm but gentle grip on it.

“Let me go!” Nina cried glaring at him.

“I won’t let you go. I never will,” Inukai said as his eyes softened. “You’re my mate and I have to protect you.”

Nina’s eyes began to fill with tears as she began biting her lower lip. “I-I have to.” She shook her head. “Let me go. I have to go.” She looked away not wanting to look into his eyes in fear of him persuading her into not going with Magatsuhi.

“No. You can’t leave me. I can’t live without you! Don’t you understand?!” Inukai said his eyes now filled with determination and a look she wished he wouldn’t look down at her with, the look that only true bonded mates could give the other.

“Don’t you understand?!” Nina demanded now looking into his eyes as tears began going down her face. “I have to do this! I’m protecting my friends, family, everyone innocent, and….” She looked away again. “…You…”

Inukai looked at her surprised despite himself and couldn’t stop her in time as she began running towards Magatsuhi. Nina was just mere feet away from Magatsuhi and there was nothing Inukai could do to stop her. Right then and there, he wished that the others were with him. It’d take a miracle to save her in time. Well, luckily for him, he got a miracle.

“Just what do you think you’re doing?” a voice asked.

Magatsuhi, Inukai, and Nina turned around to see a young lady with long flowing white hair, brown eyes, and dog-ears. She wore a white tank top, a long flowing purple skirt, a long unbuttoned black coat, and black boots that reached a little above her ankles. She wore a string around her waist that held a black sheath on her left side.

“Exactly what it looks like,” Magatsuhi replied as though it were obvious.

The girl’s eyes narrowed and she unsheathed her blade. Nina and Inukai frowned when they saw that the sword was only old and rusted.

“You’re going to fight him with that?” Inukai asked pointing a finger at the blade.

“Actually, yes,” the girl said and in a flash of light, the blade had transformed into the shape of a fang!

Inukai and Nina’s eyes widened in awe and surprise when they saw this. The sword looked exactly like Inuyasha’s!

The girl smiled as she held her blade in front of her. “Nina, Inukai, get behind me.”

The two exchanged glances then looked towards the girl. Before either of them could do anything, Magatsuhi grabbed Nina by the wrist. Nina glared at him, but remembered what she had said and only nodded, not resisting him. Inukai, on the other hand, began growling as he glared at Magatsuhi.

The girl’s eyes narrowed. “You, ‘Twisted Spirit,’ unhand Nina before I make you regret it.”

“And what are you going to do about it?” Magatsuhi asked smiling cockily.

The girl smirked as she held her sword up ready to charge after Magatsuhi. “Must I say more?”

Magatsuhi released Nina and put himself between her and the girl. “Bring it on, hanyou.”

“Very well,” The girl said. “But, remember, it was your downfall.” She began charging after Magatsuhi.

                                    Magatsuhi stood his ground.

Nina and Inukai watched unsure of what to do.

The girl lifted up her blade and went in for the kill. Magatsuhi quickly unsheathed his own blade and both of their weapons clashed causing electricity to spring of both weapons due to the friction and strength of the blow. They both looked each other in the eyes glaring at one another.

Inukai frowned and held his sword in front of him getting ready to charge after Magatsuhi. This is going to take too long.

As though the girl had read his mind, she spun around and gave him a death glare. “Don’t you dare interfere!”

Inukai began fuming. “Listen, you, you’re not the boss of me!”

The girl began growling and said, “If you don’t obey me, you’ll dearly regret it, pup.”

Nina let out a sigh knowing that Inukai would now yell at the girl for calling him a pup, however, when it did not happen, she looked towards Inukai surprised as well as puzzled.

Inukai didn’t know why he wasn’t angry with the girl, but the word pup just seemed to fit him perfectly well at the moment.

The girl saw that she had gotten Inukai’s attention and turned back around to get rid of Magatsuhi. “Now, as for you, you are as good as dead meat.”

Magatsuhi’s eyes narrowed and he bared his teeth. “Then go after me if you think someone such as you can defeat me.” He then smirked. “But don’t be too disappointed if I defeat you instead.”

The girl didn’t say anything and just held her sword in front of her smiling. “Whatever you say.”
