Inuyasha: The Prophecies

Chapter Fifteen

Inukai growled once he saw the person or, to be more precise, the neko demon that had been hiding in the shadows.

“I am called Nekono and I wish to have the Shikon Jewel within my possession,” the neko youkai said.

“Well, you’ll have to get pass me to get it,” Inukai said as he looked at Nina through the corner of his eye. Don’t worry, Nina. I’ll protect you no matter what.

Kagome sighed as she leaned against a tree. “Inuyasha, I’m worried.”

“So am I,” Inuyasha said. “Nina’s been gone way too long. I don’t like it one bit.”

“Neither do I,” Kagome said looking down at the ground. Somehow, I get the feeling that she’s not even near here. Just then they both began hearing ringing.

“What the-where’s that coming from?” Inuyasha asked seeing as there were no houses nearby and if there were, he found it impossible for a phone to ring loud enough for them to hear it outside.

“It’s just my cell phone, Inuyasha,” Kagome muttered taking it out of her black purse. “Hello?” Her eyes widened when she heard the voice that belonged to the person that had called her.

“Hello, Lady Kagome. I just would like to inform you that Nina is in Tokyo, Japan and she’s safe,” the man’s voice said.

She then heard a woman’s voice begin to speak.

“Oh, Sesshomaru, you don’t expect her to believe that, do you?!” the woman’s voice demanded.

“And why wouldn’t she?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Because this is above ground where demons are in control and humans are slaves. Besides, I don’t think she and Inuyasha fully trust you yet,” the woman said.

Sesshomaru let out a sigh. “Rin, I’m sure she believes me.”

“Yeah. Just like I believed you when you said that you would get out of your coffee and chocolate addiction ten years ago,” Rin said.

                                    “And I did,” Sesshomaru protested.

There was a pause then, “No, you didn’t. Every morning when you think I’m still asleep, I see you drinking coffee in the morning and eating chocolate pop-tarts. That’s why you’re always hyper.”

Kagome had to keep herself from laughing as she imagined Sesshomaru being hyper.

“… I do not and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must speak with Kagome-chan,” Sesshomaru said.

Kagome smiled and said, “So, you were saying.”

“Nina’s perfectly fine and don’t worry about her. However, you may want to come anyway so you can see an old family member. I’m sure he’d be delighted to see you,” Sesshomaru said.

“Tell Inu-chan I said hi,” Rin said.

“I will,” Kagome said as her smile widened. Inu-chan, huh? I could use that to blackmail him when the time comes. “Well, sayonara… Fluffy-chan and tell Rin-chan I said hi.” Her smile widened as she imagined what Sesshomaru was doing at the mention of the name she had called him. She then hung up as soon as she heard what must’ve been Sesshomaru regaining his composure.

“So? Who was it?” Inuyasha asked.

“It was Sesshomaru and Rin,” Kagome said. “And you won’t believe what I just found out.”

“What? What did they say?” Inuyasha asked.

“That Nina’s in Tokyo, Japan,” Kagome said. She looked towards the distance. “Wouldn’t it be great to go back to Japan?”

Inuyasha looked towards Kagome. “Yeah. I suppose it would be great.” Especially if we could go back to the Feudal Era.

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go to Japan,” Kagome said turning around and grabbing Inuyasha by his hand. Before he knew what was happening, Kagome was dragging him to the sewers.

Inukai charged after Nekono. Nekono frowned and jumped over him landing on his hands and feet cat style.

Inukai smirked. “Heh, so it is true. Cats do always land on their feet.”

“And I see it is also true that dogs are idiots and quite possessive,” Nekono said looking towards Inukai then towards Nina.

Inukai growled. “Sota, Seth, get out of-”

“Don’t even think about it,” Nekono said. “Your friend and brother can’t save you now that my beloved wife and our guards have them.”

                                    “You bastard,” Inukai said growling.

Nekono frowned as Inukai began charging after him. The neko demon held his weapon up in defense causing both weapons to clash. Inukai growled while Nekono hissed. Both of then narrowed their eyes sending glares to the other.

                                    “Give up?” Nekono asked.

“Never,” Inukai said. He swung his sword at the neko youkai.

Nekono hissed as he nimbly jumped out of the way.

“You’ve tainted the jewel. Hand it over,” Magatsuhi said.

“No,” Nina said as she took a step back. This is a nightmare. It’s got to be. Oh. Wake me up someone. Save me from this dream.

“No one can save you now,” Magatsuhi said as he advanced on her holding out his hand as it began glowing black.

Kagome stopped as she and Inuyasha left the sewers and began going towards the airport. Inuyasha gave her a puzzled look.

                                    “What is it?” Inuyasha asked.

“Nina, she’s in trouble, Inuyasha,” Kagome said turning to face her husband as fear made its way to her face.

Inuyasha nodded and quickly put his wife on his back then began running as fast as he could to the airport.

Seth watched Nekaira uninterested as she walked back and forth in the room with her arms crossed clearly agitated by Nekono not being back with the Shikon Jewel in his possession as well as Nina and Inukai imprisoned. Seth ignored her as she began talking under her breath about how hard could it be to capture two hanyou dog demons. He sighed and looked towards Sota who had been knocked out. The poor human hadn’t even gotten a chance to fight back as he had been preoccupied with homework. Seth mentally cursed for not sensing the two cat demons earlier.

Inukai, you had better not screw this up, you hear, Seth thought looking towards Nina’s room.

“You swing that sword around as though it were a club, half breed,” Nekono said. “I expected better.”

“Heh, you wanna see better? Then you got better!” Inukai said as he began charging after Nekono. He swung his blade down sending out his wind scar.

Nekono felt the hair on his neck stand on end. His eyes widened when he realized why and, out of instinct, quickly jumped out of the way. He hissed and glared daggers at Inukai. “What are you trying to do?! Rip this place to shreds?!”

Inukai growled as he turned to face Nekono not bothering to assess the damage he had done. “No. I’m trying to rid this place of you.”

“Speak for yourself, mutt,” Nekono said and began charging after Inukai after sheathing his blade and holding up a clawed hand.

“Now you are mine,” Magatsuhi said and shot the black energy at Nina.

Nina looked around desperately for anything to help her to block the attack. She frowned when she saw nothing then turned back around to face Magatsuhi to see the attack about to hit her. Her eyes widened and she braced herself for the impact holding her arms in front of her to shield herself.

“You shall stop your assault at once or you shall feel my wrath,” a calm somewhat creepy voice said.

“And if I don’t?” Magatsuhi asked turning around to see a sixteen-year-old boy.

The boy had black hair, violet eyes, and pale skin. He wore a black jacket, black t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, black and gray tennis shoes, a necklace of purple looking fangs, and two golden earring hoops on each ear.

“Then I will be forced to fight you,” the boy said.

“Heh, I’d like to see you try,” Magatsuhi said going into a fighting stance ignoring what was going on with Nina at the moment.

Nina frowned and quickly moved out of the way of the attack surprised she could accomplish such a thing since it had almost hit her. She shuddered at the thought of what might have happened to her and watched Magatsuhi and the mysterious boy that seemed somewhat familiar.

“By the way, just who are you?” Magatsuhi asked as he studied the boy. His eyes widened when he saw a few of what looked exactly like Kikyo’s soul stealing creatures except black were flying around the boy.

“I am called Dasako,” the boy said, “but you may call me your death.” He held out his hand. “Give me your soul for it is quite tainted and I shall purify it.”

“Really? Will you now? We’ll see about that, but first, just to let you know I happen to be a part of the jewel. I am the evil within it and this is my domain, kid. Midoriko also lies within the jewel, but she’s somewhere that has yet to be taken over by the darkness, but that shall happen very soon,” Magatsuhi said.

“Then let us go to another place,” Dasako said smiling sending shivers down both Nina and Magatsuhi’s spines.

Inukai quickly sheathed his blade and swiped at Nekono with his claws. Nekono jumped back and hissed. Inukai growled then saw bright pink light surround the room. After the light had vanished, he turned around to see Magatsuhi, Dasako, and Nina, who had woken up, standing beside the bed. Nekono raised a questioning eyebrow while Inukai gave the three a puzzled look.

Inukai then saw the soul stealer creatures flying around Dasako. He pointed a trembling finger at the boy. “Ki-Ki-Kiii-Kiki-Kiki-Kiiikii-Kiki-”

                                    “What?” Dasako asked.

“It’s Ki-Ki-Kiii-Kiki-Kiki-Kiiikii-Kiki-” Inukai stuttered still unable to say what it was he was trying to say.

“Do you have a stuttering problem?” Dasako asked.

“Oh. Who cares! Just who the hell are you two?!” Nekono said pointing a finger at Magatsuhi and Dasako.

“I am Magatsuhi. I am the darkness that is found within everyone’s hearts including those who are ‘pure,’” Magatsuhi said looking towards Nina when he mentioned about being inside even those who had pure hearts.

“I am Dasako and I shall take your tainted soul,” Dasako said. He held his hand out. “Give it to me so I can purify it.”

“Please,” Nekono said rolling his eyes. “Like that’ll ever happen.”

Dasako made a signal with his hand and a soul stealer went after Nekono.

“What the-What the heck is this?!” Nekono said trying to swipe at it with his claws missing it. His eyes then widened when the soul stealer went into his chest and soon came out carrying his soul. His eyes went blank and Dasako smiled, once again sending shivers down Nina and Magatsuhi’s spines as well as Inukai’s.

“I told you I would take your soul, did I not?” Dasako said with emotionless eyes.

Nina shuddered. That boy is officially creeping me out.

Inukai looked from Nekono then towards Dasako. “You! He was my prey! Get your own!”

Dasako rolled his eyes as he turned to face the half dog demon. “Your soul is also tainted. Give it.”

Inukai growled and unsheathed his blade. “Don’t you mean please give it?!” He charged after Dasako then jumped up in the air getting ready to go in for the kill as he said this.

“Inukai, no!” Nina cried running in the way of Inukai’s blade.

Inukai saw this, quickly sheathed Tsugerio, and landed in front of Nina. “What the hell?! What do you think you’re doing?!”

“What’s it look like I’m doing?!” Nina asked glaring at Inukai.

“Like you’re defending the enemy! That’s what it looks like!” Inukai cried.

“Dasako’s not the enemy,” Nina said softly averting her gaze away from Inukai. “He’s… He saved my life.”

Inukai gave her a questioning look then looked towards Dasako. He nodded then went over to him. “Um, sorry about that.”

Nina looked towards Inukai surprised since he rarely apologized for anything.

“Thank you for saving Nina. I shouldn’t have gone off like that. Sorry,” Inukai said.

Dasako continued looking at the half demon with emotionless eyes then turned around to face the window. “Perhaps I shall not take your soul after all. Until we meet again.” With that, he disappeared into the fog that was outside the window.

He’s still creepy, Inukai thought. He then turned around to see Magatsuhi trying to make Nekono regain consciousness.

“Come on. Wake up, you stupid neko,” Magatsuhi said shaking the cat demon’s lifeless body.

Nina went over to Inukai placing a hand on his arm. “He saved me from-from that man over there.” She pointed her finger at Magatsuhi.

Inukai let out a low growl and was about to go after Magatsuhi when he, Nina, and Magatsuhi tensed as they heard glass shattering, objects crashing against the wall, and other objects crashing into the floor. Soon, the noise ceased and Seth entered the room. His hair was a complete mess and Inukai as well as Nina had to keep themselves from bursting out laughing.

“Stupid cat demons,” Seth muttered as he began fixing his hair.

                                    “Neko youkai,” Inukai corrected.

“Whatever,” Seth muttered rolling his eyes clearly annoyed. “They’re the same thing.”

                                    “No, they’re-”

“Shouldn’t you check on you human friend?” Seth asked not letting Inukai finish his sentence.

“Uhh, right,” Inukai said scratching the back of his head nervously. “Forgot about him.” He left the room and went into the living room to see it in a complete mess. Almost everything was broken or shattered. He shook his head. Sheesh, Seth, you didn’t have to make this big of a mess. You could’ve at least picked up after yourself. He then saw Nekaira knocked out and growled. “You deserve that you know, cat.” He then saw Sota and went over to him. The human boy was still unconscious, but, other than that, he was quite fine. He picked up the boy swinging him over onto his shoulder. He then went back into Nina’s room to see that Seth had gotten rid of Magatsuhi as there was no sight of him. Inukai sighed and placed Sota onto Nina’s bed. He then turned to face his half brother and Nina. “So, now what?”

“I’m not going back to sleep,” Nina said putting a hand over the Shikon no Tama and looking down at the ground. I don’t want to see Magatsuhi again or hear his voice. He’s… cruel. The jewel… it can’t be tainted. She shook her head. No. It isn’t tainted! I won’t let it be!

At that moment, Inukai really wished he knew what Nina was thinking. I wish I could help, but… Wait a minute! Why can’t I hear her thoughts anymore?! He looked towards Nina and remembered what Kayko had said.

~*Flashback*~

“So? What is it?” Inukai asked.

“The jewel is doing this to her,” Kayko said.

“What?! How?! She balanced the jewel out! Why is it doing this to her?!” Inukai demanded.

“There are four souls within it,” Kayko said. “Courage, friendship, wisdom, and love. If even one of those four aren’t balanced then the jewel becomes defiled.”

“What’s your point?” Inukai asked crossing his arms.

“My point is, you idiot, that Nina isn’t balancing out one of the four souls,” Kayko said. “Midoriko and the demons she fought are still inside it. Midoriko isn’t able to reach Nina because her heart is unbalanced. The darkness is stronger than the light and that’s what’s causing Nina to hear such horrible things. And since she’s hearing such things, the jewel is making her heart even darker making the four souls even more unbalanced until the jewel is totally defiled and Nina is nothing, but pure evil.”

Inukai growled and put a hand on the hilt of his sword. “I won’t let that happen. Nina’s going to become the cheerful girl she used to be.”

“You’re the one causing her heart to go into darkness, you moron!” Kayko cried grabbing Inukai by his side burns.

“Ow! Quit it, woman! That hurts!” Inukai cried.

                                    Kayko let him free.

“Sheesh. You don’t have to pull my hair,” Inukai said as he crossed his arms again. “Anyway, what do you mean I’m the one causing her heart to go into darkness?”

Kayko rolled her eyes and muttered, “You are such an idiot.” She then left leaving behind a frowning Inukai.

“Feh, she’s just lying to me,” Inukai said as he turned to go back to Nina’s room. “I mean, how can I be making her heart go into darkness?”

~*End Flashback*~

Then… I was the one who made her heart overcome with darkness, Inukai thought as his eyes filled with grief for the pain he had caused Nina. He shook his head as he looked down at the ground. I’m… sorry, Nina. Maybe it is best if we are separated.

Nina looked towards Inukai and saw his face was filled with sorrow. What’s up with him?

Seth frowned as he watched Inukai and Nina. Those two really need to speak with each other before things around here get any worse then they already are.

Anna sighed as she watched the birds fly by. She, Max, Albert, and Sharon were all hanging out in a tree.

“This is so boring,” Anna muttered.

“I know,” Sharon said. “We’re supposed to be fighting Naraku or something. Not be hanging out here in a tree waiting for Nina to come. She… She probably ditched us so we wouldn’t be in danger or something. You know how she is.”

“Yes. I even find myself quite bored,” Max said. “I fear, being around beautiful women, such as yourselves, aren’t even helping and I don’t have enough strength to do anything to either of you.”

“Well, that’s good,” Anna muttered. “At least we know we’re safe from a certain pervert now.”

Max frowned and let out a yawn not bothering to say anything in his defense.

“That’s it! You guys are always mean to me and now you’re all boring me to death!” Albert cried standing up. “We must find Nina and bring her back from whence she came!” Albert’s eyes were filled with determination as he raised a fist.

“Yeah, but do you have any idea where she is?” Anna asked.

“Uhh…” Albert’s determination faded and he sat back down as tears filled his eyes. “No…” He sniffed then began crying. “Waaaahhhh! I want Nina back!”

Anna, Sharon, and Max exchanged panic glances. All three of them didn’t know how to calm down a little kid when they were crying.

“Do something,” Sharon hissed as she covered her ears. “That brat is hurting my ears.”

“Oh, yeah. Well, how do you think I should calm him down. I don’t know what to do,” Anna said.

“Don’t look at me for help,” Max said.

All three of them let out defeated sighs as the little cat demon continued wailing at the top of his lungs.

“Nina’s in Japan,” a calm quiet voice said shocking Anna, Sharon, Max and even Albert who instantly stopped crying.

All four of them looked down at the ground to see Talon.

“R-really?” Albert asked wiping his tears away.

                                    Talon nodded.

“How do you know, Talon?” Sharon asked.

“I think it’s obvious, don’t you?” Talon asked. “I mean, Kagome and Inuyasha aren’t here and the place where this whole entire thing started was in Tokyo, Japan, right?”

Anna, Max, Albert, and Sharon nodded.

“Well, then Kagome, Inuyasha, and Kagome would’ve gone there to check on the well to see if they could go back in time to stop everything from ending up this way,” Talon said.

“Wow, Talon, you’re so smart,” Max said then muttered, “He could get more ladies than me with that sort of intelligence. Looks like I have some competition.”

“Well, off to Japan we go,” Sharon said standing up.

Anna, Max, and Albert nodded standing up as well.

“I’ll come with you guys,” Talon said.

“What?!” Anna asked taken aback by what he had said.

“You are?!” Max asked also surprised by what Talon had said.

                                    “Cool,” Sharon said.

“So, how did you know Nina was in trouble, Kagome?” Inuyasha asked as he slurped his ramen noodles. He and Kagome were now on an airplane heading for Tokyo, Japan.

“I… I just have this feeling, that’s all,” Kagome said looking out the window at the clouds.

Inuyasha nodded then began drinking his cup of coffee.

Kagome let out a sigh and said, “Inuyasha, you really need to work on your table manners.”

Inuyasha gave her a puzzled look and she just shook her head.
