Inuyasha: The Prophecies

Chapter Eleven
“Let me get this straight, you were all fighting Inukai and his little friends and were winning up to when she turned full demon which is when you decided to run away and leave Kyle behind with them?!” Naraku asked clearly furious at the Shichinintai, Kanna, and Kagura for not killing Inukai and his friends or coming in possession of the Shikon no Tama.
“She’s a priestess,” Kagura protested. “It’s hard enough battling her when she’s just a hanyou, but it’s a lot harder when her demon blood becomes in control like that.”
Naraku growled. “That’s no excuse. Were you even able to hurt any of them?”
“Well, sort of,” Jakotsu muttered as he put a hand over his wound that Anna had inflicted upon him.
Naraku let out another growl then looked towards Kagura. “Kagura, I want you to bring Kayko back to life soulless, but able to move about as she needs and I want her to be invincible.”
“But, Lord Naraku, that is impossible,” Kagura said.
Naraku gave her a dark look that clearly said to do it or her life would be the next to go.
Kagura sighed, nodded, and left.
Naraku then signaled for the others to leave and they obeyed.
“Perhaps we should fight those weakling humans, half breeds, and so called full blooded demons for you,” Nekono said coming out of the shadows that were hiding him.
Naraku nodded. “Yes. Perhaps I should send you and your army next time.”
Nina ran down the streets ignoring all the demons and slaves that gave her odd looks as she ran in no apparent direction. She just wanted to get as far away from Inukai and the others as she could. Her feet led her to a place she would’ve been surprised to find herself at if she hadn’t been crying during the whole entire thing. She soon sat down underneath a tree, brought her knees up to her chest, and began sobbing into her hands that covered her eyes as her hair covered the sides of her face shielding her from the world she did not wish to see.
He hates me. He hates me. He hates me. I can’t believe this. He was planning to kill me the whole entire time. He never loved me. He belongs to Kayko. No! He killed Kayko! Whoever he makes fall in love with him is the one he’s going to kill. He’s probably the one who killed his mother before I made that stupid wish on the Jewel of Four Souls, Nina thought.
You know that’s not true, a calm voice said. He didn’t kill Kayko. Naraku did. He didn’t make you fall in love with him. You both fell in love rather it was intentional or not. He didn’t kill his mother. His father did on accident. And he does not belong to Kayko or anyone else. But your heart does belong to him, and his, yours.
He hates me. He hates my guts. That’s why he tried to kill me, Nina thought.
That is also not true whatsoever, the voice said. He tried to turn you back to normal. The jewel had taken over your mind and body when you felt the need to rid Kyle of Naraku’s control and so asked the jewel for help and it did help. But your demon side was filled with hate and anger and just wanted the boy dead because he was a danger to your friends as long as he lived until you killed Naraku and, so, the jewel became tainted and your human priestess blood wished for the jewel to stop so it no longer became filled with hate and your demon side took over. You were going to ruthlessly slaughter the poor boy, but your human side did take some if not a little control of your mind and told the demon side to release Kyle and it did even though it was a bit harsh the way it did. Your demon side willed Inukai into coming into the fight and he more than willing to, did. He hated the way you were acting in your demon form and so has come to hate that side of you. He was aiming to kill the demon within you, but not you. Do forgive him for his human side took over his mind to kill you for your vile acts.
I’m sorry, Nina thought. I didn’t mean for any of it to happen. I just wanted everyone to be happy again. That’s why I made that wish on the Shikon Jewel, but it only made things worse.
And I should never have let you have the jewel at that point of life, the voice said. You weren’t and still aren’t mature enough to know what is being asked of you. You made that irresponsible wish and it gave you this and it’s only what you deserve for making such a wish. Though, I should’ve seen this coming. The jewel left Kagome for a reason and that was because she was going to give Inuyasha what ever he wanted which was to either become a full demon or human, but those wouldn’t have made it purified anyway. The jewel left Kikyo because she believed the jewel would be purified, but she, too, was wrong. And you made the same wrong decision by giving everyone what they wanted so they would be happy and now looked where it’s gotten you. When the jewel had been separated from you, it went to Kayko, and by some strange coincidence, she and Inukai met, fell in love, and betrayed each other. The jewel had caused because it knew it would have to get away from the girl since she was going to make the same mistake Kagome and Kikyo had by making Inukai wish to become a human. Then she had the nerve to tell her little sister to give it to you. The jewel left you for a reason and that reason was because it knew you weren’t responsible enough to protect the Shikon no Tama. But, no, that little brat had to obey her sister and give it back to you. Oddly enough, it seems to want to stay with you now. The voice let out a sigh.
Nina growled as she sat up straight looking at the flowers that looked oddly familiar to her, but set it aside at the moment to concentrate on what she was being told. You’re telling me that the jewel caused so much pain and suffering to Inuyasha, Kagome, Kikyo, Kayko, Inukai, and me because it thought we were all making the wrong wishes?! If you ask me, I think that the jewel is being awfully selfish about the whole thing. I mean, honestly, if it didn’t want any of us to make those kinds of wishes, it could’ve just told us what to wish for then we would have it done and over with and none of this would’ve happened. But, no, it decided we’d learn a heck of a lot better through making the wrong wishes, but ended up killing some of us, making some of us miserable, and making those that had never been in contact of the jewel miserable such as Miroku, Sango, Kohaku, Shippo, Sesshomaru, Anna, Sharon, Max, a whole lot of people most of us know, and a lot of people in the Feudal Era. Tell me, did the jewel make Naraku so he could accomplish what the jewel could not? Is he also just a mere puppet the jewel is controlling so that he can kill all those the jewel believes is not fit to protect the jewel? Well?
Nina, you are overreacting. The jewel does not do such a thing as control puppets and make people miserable because of who it believes should not protect it. Those were just merely… coincidences, the voice said trying to reason with the ever-angering half demon priestess.
Nina let out another growl. You’re lying and you know it. Just leave me alone.
Nina, I am merely trying to help you, the voice said.
I said, leave me alone, Nina thought again as she narrowed her eyes at a thorny red rose bush as though it was to blame for the voice that was speaking to her.
Nina-
Leave! I have had enough of you! I don’t care anymore! I’ll make things right! I’ll make them the way they’re supposed to be! Just leave me alone! Nina cried out in her mind. She let out a sigh and then saw the one person she really did not need or want to see at the moment.
“I knew you’d be here,” Inukai said with his arms crossed and a look of seriousness upon his face.
Nina let out a small growl as she stood up. “And just how the heck would you know that I’d be here?!” Her face paled when she realized just where she had ran to. She was underneath the very tree she had gone underneath the first time she had gone to Inukai’s house and was standing in the very garden that was right in front of Inukai’s window (though she didn’t realize as when she was looking out his window, she was looking at the frozen lake and not its surroundings).
“I don’t blame you, though,” Inukai said as looked around the garden. “My mom did plant all these flowers and it’s always made me somewhat comfortable. This is the place I always come to when I’m feeling down, upset, or whatever. It’s somewhat soothing.” He looked up at the tree. In fact, this is the place I ran to when I thought Kayko had betrayed me and had died. It’s also the place I ran to when she really did die. I also came here when I thought you really did want me gone. I came here for so many things that I could never tell you. I came here out of grief, sorrow, anger, sheer boredness, when I remembered everything after I had come back home from my second visit to where you lived. I came here for so many things and I wish I could tell you everything, but I can’t.
Nina’s eyes widened. “Inukai, are-are you serious?!”
“What?! Serious about what?!” Inukai asked as he began thinking about everything he told her. Serious about me knowing she would be here? Well, then, yeah, after all, she did run here for the same exact reasons I had. And I don’t blame her for it. It’s the only place you can hide from the world and all its cruelty. “Yes, Nina, I’m serious.”
Nina put a hand over her mouth as her eyes widened even more and softly said, “Oh, my gosh. I can actually hear everything that’s going through your mind.” Just like when we were fighting Kanna and all of them at The Sengoku Jidai. She then gasped. And that means he can also hear everything that’s going through my mind, which means he really does know about-Oh! I can’t say it or think it if he can hear everything that’s going through my mind. Nina’s face began turning a deep shade of red.
Inukai raised an eyebrow. “Whoa. I swore I just heard you talk-think about all this and…” He then began observing the way her face had changed color and smelled a slight scent of embarrassment. “And by the looks of it, I’d say there’s something you don’t want me to know about.”
Of course there’s something I don’t want him to know about. If I did, I’d let him know. She growled in frustration. I do need my own privacy to think and say what I want. Now I don’t even have that. She then gasped. And that means I can hear every private thought that runs through his head, too! She then crossed her arms stubbornly. Well, if he can hear everything I’m thinking, then it’s only right that I can hear everything he’s thinking.
Inukai’s eyes narrowed. Well some of us would prefer to have our privacy which is why we think when don’t want to talk about those private thoughts.
Nina was about to tell him off with a rude remark of how he was just listening to her thoughts and she also wanted her own privacy to think what she wanted when she remembered what he was thinking before she asked if he was serious. “Kayko’s really dead?”
Inukai hadn’t expected Nina to ask that question and had expected her to bite his head off. Inukai grunted and turned his back to her as he went into an Inuyasha pose. Yes, she’s dead, but… it’s really my fault this time. I should’ve saved her. I could’ve saved her, but I didn’t.
Nina’s eyes softened and she looked down at the ground sadly. Tears then filled her eyes. He does love her.
I did it to save Nina, though. It was a sacrifice that I really regret I had made, but it was worth it to save Ka-no, Nina. I did it to save Nina. To save her and the Jewel of Four Souls, Inukai thought not paying attention to what Nina had just thought.
Nina shot her head up and looked at Inukai through wide eyes. Did he just think what I thought he thought? “You did it to save me?”
Inukai then turned around to face her then remembered they could hear each other’s thoughts. “Y-yeah. I did.” His eyes filled with hurt and sadness and Nina didn’t have to hear what he had to say or think next.
Nina went over to him and placed a hand on his arm. I understand, Inukai. I truly do and I wish I could tell you everything, but… She sighed. Some things are meant to be kept secret such as the way we feel about each other and horrible thoughts we don’t want others to know about and, it’s just a bunch of stuff you tell your best friends normally and they promise to tell no one and they don’t tell anyone just like they said. I mean, it’s not like I’m saying Inukai and I aren’t best friends or anything, it’s just… Her face began reddening even more and the Shikon Jewel began to glow.
Inukai looked down at her and placed a hand over hers. You know, you could refer to me like I’m right here considering I can hear everything you’re thinking right now. Sheesh. Well, as long as I can’t hear what Max is thinking, it’s okay I suppose. A thought then occurred to him. “Nina, who were you speaking to before I got here?”
Nina’s blush disappeared. “No one. I was speaking to no one.”
Inukai’s eyes narrowed. “You’re lying. It’s written all over your scent. What or who were you really talking with?!”
“No one, Inukai. I was speaking to no one. Okay?! If I was speaking to someone, I wouldn’t tell you unless it was important and either way, it wasn’t. So, there. Lay off the subject,” Nina said putting her hands on her hips.
So, then, she was thinking all that stuff and something can speak to her through its mind and I can hear it when it does speak to her, Inukai thought. His eyes softened as Nina let out another gasp.
He heard all of that, too?! Nina thought. Oh. I didn’t mean for him to hear any of that. He must really hate me now. She sighed and lowered her eyes looking down at the ground.
Inukai put both of her hands in his as he turned to face her. “Nina, I don’t hate you. Everything that that little voice in your head said is true. I didn’t kill my mother. I never hated you. My heart…” He began blushing. “Does belong to you. But I might as well have killed Kayko now after everything that happened, but it was so I could save you.” He sighed knowing he should just tell her everything now since there was no use hiding it all now that they could hear what ever the other was thinking. “And I agree with you. The jewel shouldn’t have made us its puppets like that and should’ve told its bearer, that is if they wanted to purify the jewel, exactly what to wish for so we all wouldn’t have ended up like this.” He then let out another sigh. “But if it hadn’t, you and I wouldn’t exist right now and maybe our friends wouldn’t have existed either. If Kagome hadn’t met Inuyasha, you wouldn’t be one of their descendants and wouldn’t have probably been born even if you weren’t their descendant. I wouldn’t have existed since Naraku’s my father and all because Dad wouldn’t have existed if the jewel hadn’t. Miroku and Sango wouldn’t have met either and Miroku would’ve probably married someone else and that means Anna and her brother wouldn’t have existed either or wouldn’t have the same personalities they have now. Max, on the other hand, I don’t know if he would’ve existed with and without the jewel. I don’t think Koga met anyone because of the jewel.” Speaking of which, Koga and I need to have a talk about this. If he’s married, there’s no use in him having Nina ‘cause she belongs to me and no other. She’s my mate and that wolf can just go find some other demon or whatever to have as his mate.
Nina began turning crimson. Did I just hear that right?! He loves me?! He wants me as… his mate?! She felt like she was going to faint from hearing everything he had just told her and everything that he had thought. Wait a sec! “You better not hurt Koga. I know he thinks differently than you and I do, but that doesn’t mean you should go and hurt him or worse.”
Inukai mentally cursed and soon let out a growl then threw his hands up in frustration. Just how the heck am I supposed to hide anything from her such as that one thought that I just thought right now?! I can’t believe I just told her all that and didn’t even know it! He sighed. “Anyway, that’s beyond the point. The point is, there’s no use in hiding anything from each other because of this ability that I can’t seem to see anyway of blocking us from hearing thoughts we don’t want to be heard considering I was just now trying to block my thoughts from being heard by you.”
Nina sighed then looked up into Inukai’s eyes. “I hate to admit you’re correct, but you are. So I might as well tell you everything.”
Inukai grunted and crossed his arms again. That includes how you feel about me.
Nina began blushing and really wished that Anna or Sharon were around to bail her out of this ever-complicating situation. “Okay. Here it goes.” She began explaining everything to him including the dark voice that made her feel like it really was telling the truth, the other voice that was trying to encourage her to not listen to a thing the dark voice had said (though she knew the voice hadn’t said that, but she knew the voice was trying to without just saying it right out in her face), everything that she was thinking when they saw each other again and when she first came to his house, and everything else until she pretty much told him everything that had been happening in her life and mentioned, to her surprise and dismay, how she felt about Inukai and realized she had told him everything she would’ve only told her two best friends and had spelt out everything she had felt for the past year since she made her wish. Inukai ended up hugging her as she broke into a sob after telling him everything.
“There, there. It’s okay,” Inukai whispered in a soothing voice as he stroked Nina’s soft long hair. “I understand it all.” I had to go through some things similar to that all my life because I’m a half demon and I’m sorry you had to be treated that way, too. You had to keep your identity secret so you would fit in with the humans. If you went above ground, you could be mistaken for a human and even if you told the demons you were half dog demon, you still would’ve been made a slave. That, and the fact that Naraku would’ve probably found out and killed you. But I’m here now and I will always protect you. I won’t leave your side.
“Hmm, now what is this?” a voice suddenly asked.
Inukai and Nina quickly broke apart and turned around to see Kaede smiling. They began blushing.
“Umm, hey, Grandma Kaede. I was-we were just talking and I was just showing her the, uhh…” Inukai quickly looked around and saw he was standing right next to a yellow rose bush. “I was just showing her these roses and she started crying because it, umm, it reminded her of how much she missed this world.”
“Y-yeah,” Nina said. She frowned. That is the lamest lie I’ve ever heard in my whole entire life.
I didn’t hear you coming up with anything better, Inukai thought crossing his arms and looking at the teenaged girl through the corner of his eye.
Nina glared at him then turned her attention back on Kaede. “Sorry if we… disturbed you while you were enjoying yourself or doing work or…whatever. We’re really sorry, Lady Kaede.”
“No need for apology,” Kaede said as her smile widened. “You two can do as you please in this garden. Naraku doesn’t watch this place. In fact, this is the only place he doesn’t watch.” She then left as her smile grew wider.
Anna frowned and kicked a rock that was in her way. She, Albert, Max, Koga, Sharon, Talon (who came to everyone’s surprise and knew everything that had happened), Kagome, and Inuyasha were sitting underneath a tree. Max ended up being the one to explain everything to Inuyasha, Kagome, and Talon.
“Then where is she if she’s not here?!” Inuyasha demanded slamming his fist into the ground.
“You actually think I know?” Max asked raising an eyebrow. “I haven’t known her that long.”
“I don’t know where she is either so don’t look at me,” Sharon said.
“I wish I knew where she was,” Albert muttered.
Anna sighed. “So do I.”
“I hope she’s okay,” Kagome said as she put a hand on Inuyasha’s arm her grip tightening on the cloth.
Inuyasha placed a reassuring hand over hers. “She’ll be fine.”
“That mutt better not be with her or doing anything to her,” Koga said letting out a low growl.
Inuyasha growled and brought up a clawed hand while Anna, Sharon, Albert, Kagome, and Talon rolled their eyes and Max smiled as he thought about just what Koga meant by his words and Anna ended up hitting him upside the head still unable to believe that he and Koga were related.
“That ‘mutt’ as you put it, happens to be one of the only people that I trust to protect Nina,” Inuyasha said through gritted teeth. “Besides, if I’m not mistaken, Max is your descendant and I don’t think you would like your wife to hear that you’re two timing her.”
Koga instantly stood up and so did Inuyasha the two snarling in each other’s faces.
“For starters, my wife is dead and was killed by Naraku and second, Nina is my woman and no one else’s,” Koga said.
“Well, first of all, Inukai is younger than you and related to Naraku and yet I manage to trust him more than I trust you. And second of all, if he and Nina do have a thing for each other then I approve of it, but there’s no way in hell that I’m letting you get near Nina,” Inuyasha said.
The two let out low growls as their hands turned to fists.
Anna sighed. “I don’t know which is worse, those two fighting over Kagome or them fighting over Nina. The cycle just never seems to end.”
Sharon nodded. “Ditto.”
Talon looked off towards the distance and said quietly, “From what you’ve all said, I’d say that Nina was at Inukai’s place.”
Obviously, no one had heard what Talon had said because everyone was still watching Koga and Inuyasha bicker clearly amused or finding the whole situation exhausting since the two demons seemed to argue all the time once they saw each other again.
“So, I remember you saying you like the stars and everything,” Inukai said looking up at the clear night starry sky that held an oval glowing moon.
“Yeah. What of it?” Nina asked quietly still embarrassed about her sudden outburst of everything she had gone through and her feelings and what Inukai had told her before Kaede had come. Just another higher step of our relationship, I guess. What the-Relationship?! What relationship?!
The one you wish you had with me. That’s what relationship, Inukai thought smirking as Nina began blushing brilliantly. You did say that you loved me, didn’t you? And, if I recall correctly, you kissed me on the cheek and we’ve come to way too many close calls of actually kissing each other. But damn all those who always had to interrupt us. No one seems to knock these days. Oh. Yeah. And there was the whole bed thing.
Nina’s face turned a deeper shade of red. She then pushed playfully pushed him. “You hentai. How could you say such things? Has Max or Miroku been rubbing off of you?”
Inukai let out a growl and crossed his arms. “Feh. Those two? I think not.”
Nina giggled as Inukai smiled. Their eyes then met. Nina gulped as Inukai drew closer to her closing the distance between them. Nina felt her heart begin to pound as her breathing became slower. The same effect was happening to Inukai except the Shikon Jewel was beginning to glow and its warmth was beginning to spread through Nina’s body. Their faces were just inches apart. Inukai wrapped him arms around her waist and before Nina knew what was happening, he closed the distance between them his lips touching hers. Nina put her arms around his neck, but before she could respond any further to the kiss, they both ended it. Inukai loosened his grip around her holding her out in arm’s length.
Nina began blushing more than she ever had in her whole entire life. “D-did you-and I-and then-and…” Nina felt like she was going to faint. Never in her life had she kissed anyone and now here she had been. Kissed by the one boy she thought had intentionally hurt her. She then put a finger on her lips as tears filled her eyes. That was my first kiss. She shook her head and began crying to Inukai’s surprise. He quickly embraced her as he began stroking her hair.
Why is she crying? Don’t tell me she didn’t want to get kissed. Don’t tell me she wanted to kiss someone else? Inukai thought.
Nina looked up at him as she wiped her tears away. “Don’t be silly. There’s no one else. You’re the only one for me. It’s just…”
“You’ve never been kissed or had a boyfriend before?” Inukai asked.
Nina nodded. “I said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m not aloud to have a boyfriend until I’m eighteen, which answers your question about why I’ve never been kissed. If you’re going to ask, that is.”
“Heh, well, I’m sure your parents can make exceptions,” Inukai said smirking.
Nina playfully pushed him again. “Well, maybe if you weren’t such a big jerk and inconsiderate, immature, insensitive, and a creep from time to time.”
Inukai only smirked all the more. “But isn’t that why you love me so much?” Before Nina could respond, Inukai closed the distance between them again kissing her even longer than last time.
Meanwhile, Kanna was watching what was going on between Inukai and Nina from the window of Inukai’s room. Just as I thought.
“Kanna, don’t try anything,” a voice said.
Kanna turned around to see Seth who was hiding in the shadows.
“I want to see what goes on between those two. Don’t tell anyone about this. I’ll tell you when it’s time,” Seth said with his arms crossed. His eyes narrowed. Little brother, don’t you dare mess this up or I swear I’ll rid you of your life for good.
