Inuyasha: The Prophecies

By: Guardian Angel

Chapter Eight

Inuyasha lied down in an apple tree and looked down from it as he watched Sharon, Anna, and Nina, whom were all hanging out in another tree. He grunted and grabbed an apple from the tree branch. He was about to bite into it, when something or someone grabbed it from him. Inuyasha turned to snarl at what ever it was that dared to steal his apple to see it was a squirrel. He then smirked.

“You’re still alive, eh?” Inuyasha asked still smirking. “You must be an old geezer now.”

The squirrel squeaked and stuck out its tongue. It then ran up onto the tree branch above. Inuyasha snarled and jumped onto the same tree branch. He then jumped at the squirrel. The squirrel dodged him and jumped onto the tree branch above again. Inuyasha joined it.

“Be a good little stupid squirrel and hand over my apple already before I kill ya,” Inuyasha said putting a hand over the hilt of his sword.

The squirrel gave Inuyasha a look and ran into a hole that was inside the tree. Inuyasha growled and ran over to the hole. He then stuck his hand into the hole and began trying to search for the squirrel. He felt a sharp pain go through his hand and pulled his hand out to see it bleeding between his thumb and his index finger. Inuyasha let out a low growl and shot a glare at the hole.

“Fine, ya stupid squirrel. Be that way, but you’re only prolonging your death,” Inuyasha said and jumped out of the tree. He then went over to Kagome who was sitting down on the swing on the front porch. He took a seat next to her.

Kagome raised an eyebrow as she heard Inuyasha grumbling something about apples and old geezer squirrels.

“So, what’s been going on between you and Inukai lately?” Anna asked.

“Yeah?” Sharon asked. “Have you two been getting… close?”

“Wha-what?!” Nina asked her face turning a brilliant shade of red. “I-I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“We all know how you feel about him,” Sharon said.

“Yeah. It’s so obvious,” Anna said.

Nina felt her face turn a deeper shade of red as it spread to her neck and ears. “I-I r-really have n-no idea wha-what you’re talking about.”

                                    “Umm-hmm, sure,” Anna said.

Inukai raised an eyebrow as he watched the three girls. Why is Nina blushing? What did they tell her?

Kayko went over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. “Inukai, I’m sorry for what I did when we saw each other again. I should’ve been overjoyed to see you. I have missed you deeply since what happened all those months ago. Despite what Naraku did to us, I still yearned for you to be by my side. Please forgive me.”

Inukai looked up at Kayko’s sad eyes and nodded as he placed a hand over hers. “I forgive you, Kayko.” And I’ll kill Naraku for what he did. His teeth gritted as he thought this and his hand over Kayko’s tightened its grip on hers as his free hand turned into a fist. “Kayko, I’ll always protect you no matter what and I won’t let Naraku lay a single finger on you.”

Nina continued blushing as Sharon and Anna continued teasing her. She then turned around and looked towards Inukai’s direction. Her eyes widened as she saw the two talk to each other. Her blush disappeared as Inukai got up and turned around to face Kayko. He then hugged her and closed his eyes. Kayko slowly hugged him and closed her eyes as well. Nina backed up a little. He does love her. He never loved me. All I was, was Kayko’s replacement. She felt tears fill her eyes. He never did. She quickly ran inside her house, into her room, closed the door and locked it, jumped onto her bed, and began crying into the pillow.

Sharon and Anna exchanged puzzled glances as they saw their best friend run away. They then looked towards Inukai and Kayko and frowned.

“It’s his fault she ran off,” Anna said.

                                    “Ditto,” Sharon said.

The two let out a sigh and began going towards the house.

“I agree. Inukai is such an idiot when it comes to women,” a voice said.

The two girls turned around to see Max smiling.

“I, on the other hand, know perfectly well how to treat a woman,” Max said his smile widening.

Anna made the sign of the cross with her fingers and backed up towards the door while Sharon gave him a look that said if he tried anything, he was a dead man.

Max let out a defeated sigh. “I am so hurt.”

“You should be,” Anna said her eyes narrowing.

“Actually, you’ll be hurt once I do hurt you for pulling anything on me,” Sharon said crossing her arms.

Max sweat dropped and put his hands up in defeat. I really have no idea why I try. He then smiled as a thought came to him. Nina, on the other hand…

Inukai opened his eyes and looked towards Anna, Sharon, and Max and realized Nina was gone. Did she see what was going on between Kayko and me? Or did she go inside for something else?

Kayko grabbed hold of the sleeve of Inukai’s shirt and tugged at it. Inukai looked down at her to meet her hazel eyes.

Inukai felt a rush of guilt go through him and looked towards the house. She did see it then.

Kayko bared her teeth as she let out a low growl and looked towards the house. She’s taking him away from me. He’s mine and only mine.

He hates me. I don’t care what he says to try and deny it because it’s all true. I shouldn’t have believed a word he said when he told me he remembered everything and would always protect me. They were all lies. The only way they would’ve been true was if I was Kayko. They were meant for Kayko and no one else, Nina thought as she continued sobbing. Kayko has a place in his heart while I do not. I belong in no one’s heart. Why did I have to fall in love with him? This is all his fault, darn it! I hate him! I hate his guts! I wish Kayko never existed! It’s all her fault! She took Inukai away from me. She took my Inukai. Nina opened her eyes as they widened. What the-Did I just call Inukai mine? What is going on with me? Inukai’s not mine nor anyone else’s. He’s not property. She sat up as she put a hand over the glowing Shikon Jewel. Have I really fallen in love with Inukai that much that I would claim him as my own and wish for the one who won his heart to never exist? What has overcome me? If I can become like that, I must be a very horrible person. Am I really that horrible that I would wish Kayko away and claim Inukai as mine?

Yes, you are that horrible, a dark voice said. Kayko stole your Inukai and you should kill her for doing so. You should also kill Inukai for becoming hers in the first place. You are so horrible, that you kill for the fun of it. The voice chuckled. You know you want to send them both to Hell for what they’ve done to your heart. Remember, you are Inukai’s slave and nothing more. He’s just forgotten about you at the moment because he’s enjoying himself with Kayko.

Nina shook her head as tears began fill her eyes again. You’re lying. Leave me alone. I know I can trust Inukai. I love him and he would never intentionally hurt me. All you do is tell lies. Inukai never meant to lie to me. He saw Kayko when he said several things to me. She then remembered all the times Inukai had hugged her and almost kissed her. Her eyes darted to her hands as tears began going down her face. Everything we’ve been through was meant for him and Kayko. None of it was meant for me. She closed her eyes and began sobbing again. I shouldn’t have met him. All I’ll do is get in the way of their relationship. She lied back down and began sobbing into the pillow. We were never meant to be.

Yes. You two were never meant to be. That is why you must kill them both. You know you’ll be happier if they didn’t exist anymore, the voice said.

Nina growled and glared at the wall as if it was the thing she should blame for the voice that spoke to her of negative things. “I am not telling you again. Leave me the-” She quickly covered her mouth as she let out a gasp. Oh, my gosh! I almost cussed. Am I really that angry that I would do such a thing? Look at what’s happening to me. I can’t take anymore of this or I’ll change into someone I don’t want to know or become. She looked at the wall determinedly as she sat up. “You leave me alone now. I’ve told you many times and I wish for my pleads to be obeyed. You got that?”

The voice let out a growl. Do not be so naïve, girl. You can tell me to leave all you want, but I shall remain as long as your heart is filled with darkness and that means I can speak to you as long as I want and there’s nothing in the world that can save you now that you are so deep within the darkness.

Nina ignored the voice as the door to her room slammed open. She turned around to face her door to see Inukai quickly come in and close the door behind him. Nina looked towards him half bewildered and half happy that he had come.

Inukai looked at her tearstained face. Was she crying because of me? He let out a sigh as his dog-ears drooped. He then went over to her and sat down next to her. She probably hates my guts now. His hands turned into fists as he winced at the thought of Nina hating him. She can’t hate me. With out her, I’m nothing.

Nina watched Inukai curiously and looked up at his ears. What’s wrong with him? She scooted a bit closer to Inukai and put a hand on his forehead. It doesn’t seem like he has a fever.

Inukai felt the hand on his forehead and opened his eyes as they widened. He then took Nina’s hand and placed it within his own as he turned to face her. Why is she so close to me and why is her scent filled with worry? Has she forgotten about what has happened and believes me to be sick or does she truly remember and that’s why her scent is filled with worry because she thinks I’m going to leave her? He looked down at his and Nina’s hands and let out a sigh. I can’t forget about Kayko, but Nina needs me. Who do I choose? He let out a frustrated growl startling Nina. I can’t just pick one over the other. They both need me. Why does this have to so damn complicated?!

Nina looked up at Inukai as her eyes filled with more concern. What is bugging him? She let out a sigh and looked down at her and Inukai’s hands. And he’s holding my hand! Something must be really wrong with him!

Inukai looked towards Nina to meet her concerned eyes. I can’t just leave her hanging like this. “Nina, I-”

“Inukai, what’s wrong?” Nina asked not letting Inukai finish what he was going to say. “I’m starting to become really worried about you. Inukai, tell me. You can trust me, can’t you?”

Inukai let out a sigh and nodded. He looked down at his and Nina’s hands again. “Nina, I can’t, well, I’m not sure exactly how to start.” He began caressing Nina’s hand without realizing it.

Nina began blushing. “Umm, well, you-you’ll just have to start from the beginning I guess.”

Inukai looked up at Nina again and put both of her hands within his own. “Nina, I-I’m not sure if I can start at the beginning. Nina, I-I…” He looked back down at his and Nina’s hands. “I have to tell you something. I don’t think I can take you with me anymore.”

“Wha-what?” Nina asked as her eyes widened. “B-but-wha-what do you mean by you don’t think you can take me with you anymore?”

“I don’t want to hurt you anymore,” Inukai said.

“Hurt me? What do you mean?” Nina asked.

Inukai shot Nina a glare. “Are you stupid or something?! I’m talking about Kayko and me?! You saw what was going on between us and I hadn’t meant for you to see any of it! I hadn’t meant to make you fall in love with me! I never meant to hurt you. I would never mean any of it.” He looked back down at their hands as Nina’s eyes widened even more.

Nina looked down at their hands as well as tears began to fill her eyes. “You mean, you don’t want me around anymore?”

“Well, I-and I-and-Damn it, Nina!” Inukai said unsure of what to say. He looked up at Nina. “I love you with all my heart and that’s why I can’t have you around anymore because I can’t bare to see you hurt by what Kayko and I may be doing.”

Nina looked up at him angrily. “Are you two timing me?! Because if you are, that’s no way to show you love me! When you love someone, you’re supposed to love one and only one person because that’s the one you’ll be staying with for your whole entire life! You can’t two-time them until you feel like you finally have to get rid of one of them! Inukai, look at what you’ll do to both of them when they both find out that you had been two-timing them! Don’t you have any consideration for what I feel about this whole situation?! I love you and I still do despite what you’ve done to me! You must be the luckiest guy in the world to still have the love of a weak half human priestess because she looks past your errors and towards your personality. I don’t care what you look like on the outside. I love you for you and nothing more. I have what people call true love and I don’t even see how it’s possible for me to feel such a thing after everything you’ve done.” Nina crossed her arms in victory. Her eyes then widened when she realized everything she had said. She began blushing, especially after she saw Inukai’s eyes widen.

“You mean, you love me?” Inukai asked.

Nina’s face turned a deeper shade of red. “N-no. What would give you that kind of idea? I could never love a jerk like you. I don’t even see how Kayko can.” She let out a low growl after she mentioned Kayko’s name.

Inukai raised an eyebrow when he heard her growl. That reminds me of how I was when Koga was around her. He smirked. “Nina, that’s really hard to believe considering you’re jealous of me and Kayko.”

“I’m not jealous of either of you,” Nina scowled as her face turned an even deeper shade of red. “I couldn’t be.” Her blush disappeared as she looked back down at her and Inukai’s hands. Tears filled her eyes once again. “Maybe I am jealous, but it doesn’t matter because you’re heart belongs to Kayko and not me. There’s nothing I can do to change that. In fact…” Nina took the Shikon Jewel off from her necklace and held it out in her hand. “I should give this to you. You should give it to Kayko. Maybe she can do a better job when it comes to purifying the jewel. I probably wasn’t even the one who was meant to purify it in the first place. It must’ve came into my body by mistake. It was probably meant to be with Kayko since she looks like me and all.”

Inukai’s eyes softened and put a hand underneath Nina’s chin gently tilting it upward so he could look into her hazel eyes as tears began to go down her cheeks. He wiped them away. “Nina, keep the jewel. You were meant to be its protector and though it’s an enormous responsibility, you have to do it. It’s your destiny and fate has brought us all the way here. The jewel is a bigger burden than my own burdens that I must carry. And those burdens are mainly to protect you.”

Nina shot him a glare. “You promised to protect me! How do you expect to do that if I’m not with you?! You promised the same exact thing to Kayko!”

Inukai’s face paled. She heard that?! He cursed. That’s just perfect. “Nina, I-”

“Save it. I don’t want to hear it,” Nina said standing up. “You might as well leave. I don’t want to see you ever again. You got that?!”

Inukai growled and stood up. “Fine! I’ll leave and never come back! It’s not like I cared about you from the beginning anyway!”

                                    “Good,” Nina said also growling.

“I hope I don’t see your hideous face ever again!” Inukai yelled.

“Then there’s one thing we both agree on!” Nina yelled.

“And I’m taking Kayko with me!” Inukai yelled even louder.

“Fine. I don’t give a care!” Nina yelled even louder.

                                    “Fine!”

                                    “Fine!”

                                    “Feh!”

                                    “You’re still here!”

                                    “I’m leaving right now!”

                                    “Good!”

Inukai let out a growl and jumped out of her window.

Nina stuck out her tongue and turned her back towards the window crossing her arms. “Good riddance.”

Inukai stormed his way toward the front yard. He then grabbed a very puzzled Kayko’s hand. “Come on. We’re going.”

“What?! What do you mean?!” Kayko asked still puzzled and trying to take her hand away from Inukai’s.

“We’re going. That’s what I mean,” Inukai said snarling.

Kayko frowned. “Fine. But you have no need to hold onto my hand like a little child that is scared of losing his mother.” As she said this, she took her hand away from him.

Inukai snorted and turned towards the road. “Fine. But you had better come with me or I’ll leave you behind and don’t think I’m coming back either, ‘cause I’m not. I can’t wait to get the hell outta here.”

Kayko’s frown deepened, but she obeyed Inukai. “You shouldn’t be so rude towards one of my standards. Remember, Inukai, I am a priestess and I will fight you if necessary.”

Inukai grunted. “As if that’ll ever happen.”

Kayko’s frown deepened even more. “You are too arrogant for your own good. I don’t see how I fell in love with someone as cocky as you.”

Inukai grunted again. “And you expect me to know ‘cause even I don’t know how we got together.”

Anna, Sharon, and Max (who followed the two girls despite their protests) went towards Nina’s room to see the door was open. They quickly entered it to see Nina who was in an Inuyasha pose.

“What did Inukai do?!” Anna demanded knowing that was the reason for Nina to be in such a pose.

Nina growled and threw her hands up in the air out of frustration. “He told me that he prefers to be with Kayko than he does me because he believes he’s hurting me! As if! He can’t hurt me at all if that’s what he thinks! He made the same promise that he made to me to Kayko! How could he?! He claims he loves me, but if he really did, he wouldn’t two-time me! He wouldn’t make me feel the way I’m feeling right now! He wouldn’t lie to me! He wouldn’t have done any of this if he truly loved me! I am such a fool to believe that he did!” She felt tears fill her eyes again. “I fell for him and I don’t even see how it was possible for me to do so. I am such a fool. How could I fall in love with such a jerk?!”

“Ahh, so you admit it. You do love Inukai,” Max said.

Anna hit him upside the head. “You are such an idiot!”

Sharon nodded. “Guys can be such jerks. Especially guys like Miroku and Max.”

“I am so offended,” Max said placing a hand over his heart. “How could you say such a thing?”

“How can I say it? That’s easy. Everyone can. It’s could speaking, Max. Are you that stupid?” Sharon asked.

“I know,” Anna said rolling her eyes.

“You guys can be so cruel to me sometimes,” Max muttered.

Anna rolled her eyes again. “Whatever.” She then went over to Nina as did Sharon. “Don’t worry, Nina. He’ll be back and will apologize for everything he’s done.”

                                    “Yeah,” Sharon said.

“That’s really hard to believe,” Nina muttered as she tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to go down her face. “He said he was never going to return here. He said he never wanted to see me again. He said he was bringing Kayko with him. And he said he never cared for me from the beginning.”

Anna and Sharon exchanged glances. The two let out a sigh unable to think of anything to help their best friend.

“Inukai’s a big jerk, but his guilt will catch up with him and he’ll come back on hands and knees begging for your forgiveness,” Anna said.

Sharon shrugged, but knew Anna was right since Inuyasha would’ve done the same if it was Kagome, but she knew Anna hadn’t mean Inukai was going to literally come back on hands and knees begging for forgiveness because he was too filled with pride to do so.

“She probably did something to make him angry or something,” Anna whispered.

“Yeah and then they got into a big argument and this is the result,” Sharon said.

                                    “Umm-hmm,” Max said.

The two girls narrowed their eyes at him.

                                    “You mind?” Anna asked.

“Yeah. This is our conversation. Not yours,” Sharon said.

Max let out a sigh and went over to Nina. He then kneeled down and held her hands in his. “Lady Nina, if I may say I believe Anna and Sharon are right. Inukai will come back here for forgiveness once his guilt does catch up with him. Hopefully, you can stay in high spirits ‘till then.” He looked at the Shikon Jewel that was slightly glowing, but not as much as it usually did. This confirmed Max’ fears. “Please, do not allow the negative thoughts passage through your mind or you shall deeply regret it, I fear.” He then stood up and left the room.

Anna and Sharon watched him with wide eyes.

“He didn’t even try to make a move on her,” Anna said.

                                    “Yeah,” Sharon said.

They both exchanged glances then ran out of Nina’s room after Max wanting an exclamation to his weird behavior.

Nina watched her friends leave and lied back down on her bed. Will he really come back to me? Inukai… Please do come back. I’m already regretting everything I told you.

Inukai carried Kayko bridal style through the sewer tunnels. I’m never coming back, Nina. I hope you enjoy your miserable life.
