Inuyasha: The Prophecies
By: Guardian Angel
Chapter Seven
Kagome sighed as she sat down next to Inuyasha on the couch.
“Nina was crying,” Inuyasha said as he skipped through the channels on the TV. “And…” He sniffed the air and smelled a very familiar scent. A scent that smelled like- “Naraku’s here!” Inuyasha grabbed out Tessaiga.
“What?! Naraku?! Here?!” Kagome asked as fear made its way to her face.
“He’s here and he’s using his miasma. It’s coming from Nina’s room!” Inuyasha said. “Get Nina’s mom, dad, and brother outta here!”
Kagome nodded and ran to the kitchen first since it was the closest.
Nina backed up as she searched for a weapon to use and anything that she could use to protect herself from the miasma. She tripped over something and fell down onto her back. She groaned and sat up. “Ow. That hurt.” She then stood up. She quickly spun around to see… nothing. She shook her head. You’re starting to become paranoid. Get over it. There’s no one behind you.
Inukai, Anna, Sharon, and Kayko ran up the driveway.
Almost there, just a little further, Inukai thought. Nina, please be all right.
Kayko looked towards Inukai. Does he care that much for that girl? She then looked towards the house as she and the others approached it. His heart isn’t as hard as it used to be. It’s softer. So are his eyes. Has this girl changed him that much? She’s taken from me what I should’ve done.
Nina let out a yelp when she saw Mukotsu jump out of nowhere. She tripped and fell down onto her back again. She sat up. Her eyes widened as Mukotsu drew closer. Nina reached around the ground trying to find anything to defend herself from Mukotsu. Nina gulped as she saw Mukotsu draw nearer. She then felt something and gripped it. Mukotsu kicked at her. Nina rose what ever it was and blocked Mukotsu’s attack. She then saw that the thing was her bow. Her eyes lit up as she searched for her quiver or any arrows. Mukotsu raised a hand and slapped her.
“Ungrateful wench, how dare you try to look for your weapon,” Mukotsu said. “Be a good girl, and hand over the Jewel of Four Souls.”
Nina let out a low growl as she wiped blood away from her lower lip. She then felt her quiver and smiled. She then kicked Mukotsu away from her and stood up. She put the quiver on her back and grabbed out an arrow. She then took aim and released it through the miasma purifying it and getting rid of it. She spotted Mukotsu and went over to him. She grabbed out another arrow and aimed at his head.
“Any last words?” Nina asked.
“You don’t want to do this,” Mukotsu said as his eyes widened in terror.
“And why shouldn’t I?” Nina asked restraining herself from releasing the arrow.
“Because you will deeply regret it if you do,” Mukotsu said as he looked towards the Shikon Jewel around her neck.
Nina followed his gaze and snarled at him. She then put her bow on her back. Mukotsu let out a sigh of relief. Nina made her claws appear and went in for the kill. Mukotsu’s eyes widened and he let out a scream of pure horror.
Kanna saw this and her eyes widened. She’s not supposed to be like this. When I saw her, I knew her heart was pure. Why does she now kill Mukotsu in such a way? To fool him that she would spare him and then kill him is not right. Has her heart grown dark? With what? Vengeance? Hate? Sorrow? What has happened to her to make her this way?
Nina lifted her clawed hand up and wiped the blood away smirking. “That’s what you get for messing with me.” She then turned around to face Kanna and smiled. “You’re next.”
Kanna then realized what was happening as she saw Nina’s eyes turn blood red. She’s turned into a full demon! Her demon blood is making her behave in such a way. We must retreat for now for we surely do not last against a full demon priestess. “I will be back for the jewel. Remember that.” She disappeared.
Nina frowned and then turned towards the door when it crashed open. Inuyasha entered holding Tessaiga. He then spotted the dead Mukotsu. He looked towards Nina puzzled and sheathed his sword.
“What happened?” Inuyasha asked.
Nina’s eyes turned back to normal and she looked around puzzled. “I… don’t know.”
Inuyasha sniffed the air. His eyes widened. She was a full demon when she did this!
Inukai and the others then ran in followed closely by Kagome and Max (who was just walking home from someone’s house when he saw Inukai and the others running to Nina’s house).
“Are you okay?” Inukai asked as he looked around the ruined room.
“I’m fine,” Nina said as relief spread through her. He’s okay. I’m glad. She then spotted Kayko and felt grief overcome her heart. He brought her. Was he truly worried about me? Or did she make him come? She let out a whimper that she hoped no one noticed.
Inukai gave her a puzzled look. He had heard her whimper. What’s wrong with her? Why is she whimpering?
Nina’s gaze fell to the ground. “I’m going to go take a hot bath.” She left the room.
“Ahh, a hot bath she says,” Max said. “I believe I shall invite myself over and-”
“Oh no, you don’t,” Anna said hitting the teenaged boy upside the head.
Max laughed nervously and nodded. “Yes, my dear Anna. What ever you say.”
Anna rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”
Sharon kept herself from laughing at what was going on between Anna and Max. She’s going to be just like Sango and Miroku rather she likes it or not.
“You failed, I take it,” Naraku said as he looked down at Suikotsu, Genkotsu, Renkotsu, Kagura, and Kanna.
“We have, Father. We are very sorry and will try again when the time is right,” Kanna said.
“Yes, you will and next time, you will bring with you a useful ally,” Naraku said.
“I will accompany you buffoons next time as well,” Bankotsu said as appeared by Naraku’s side. “Failure is not acceptable. It shouldn’t be hard to take a jewel from a little girl.”
“She’s not little,” Jakotsu muttered.
Nina lied down in the warm water letting the warmth relax her muscles. She let out a sigh as she closed her eyes. “What did happen back there? How did Mukotsu die? I don’t remember a thing. The last thing I remember was getting rid of the miasma. And then everything went blank. Next thing I know, Inuyasha’s in the room asking what happened.” She let out another sigh and sunk deeper into the water. “I have no idea what happened.”
You let your heart become dark, a dark voice said.
“What?!” Nina asked sitting up as her eyes opened wide. She quickly grabbed a towel and stood up as she wrapped it around herself. “Who’s there?!”
Do not be alarm. Or maybe you should be alarm. I do not know, but you let your heart become overcome by darkness. Your demon blood took over due to it. And I must say you must’ve enjoyed it very much, the voice said.
“What?” Nina asked as horror made its way to her face.
You became a full demon and enjoyed slaughtering Mukotsu, the voice said as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“N-no. I don’t enjoy killing anyone,” Nina protested shaking her head. “I would never enjoy such a thing.”
Ahh, but you did despite that, the voice said. In fact, I believe you are thinking of wanting to kill me and enjoy it.
“No, I don’t. Leave me alone,” Nina said as tears made their way to her eyes. “I do not enjoy killing people, even if they are bad.”
You wish I wasn’t right, but you know I’m right, the voice taunted. There’s nothing you can do to deny it. You love killing and you know it, you violent little girl.
“I do not! Leave me alone!” Nina cried as she fell to her knees and covered her face with her hands. “I do not enjoy killing.” She began weeping.
The voice laughed evilly. Very well. I shall leave you alone for now, but do not deny the undeniable.
Inukai sat down on the couch in between Anna and Max. He had gotten annoyed by their bickering and decided it would be best if he sat between them so they would stop.
“You are so annoying,” Anna muttered.
“I resent that,” Max said.
Inukai grunted. “I think you’re both annoying.”
“I am not!” Anna and Max cried in unison.
Inukai rolled his eyes. “Whatever.” He sniffed the air and turned around to see Kayko coming towards him. He then realized she had changed her hairdo and had taken the lipstick off. She now had her hair tied up in a ponytail with a red bow. He then realized her hair reached her knees. “Kayko, what’s with the new look?”
“I do not wish to wear the traditional hairdo of the priestesses any longer,” Kayko said. “I wish to wear my hair as I like.”
Inukai’s eyes widened when he realized something else. She’s taller than Nina. She’s almost my height. He frowned. By a fourth of an inch or so. He grunted and turned back around to face the TV as Anna and Max began to argue over what to watch. “Whatever. Do as you please. I don’t give a damn.”
Kayko rolled her eyes. “You don’t have a bigger vocabulary, do you?”
Inukai grunted again and closed his eyes. “Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t. Either way, it’s none of your business.”
Kayko rolled her eyes and took a seat next to Anna. She then narrowed her eyes as Anna and Max continued to argue about what to watch. “Oh, for crying out loud!” She grabbed the remote from the two. “Since you two can’t make up your mind on what you want to watch, I’m picking for you.”
Anna and Max groaned.
“This is your fault,” Anna said angrily.
“No, it’s not,” Max said. “If you would just let me put it on football, we would all be a lot happier.”
“Football stinks!” Anna cried. “If you’d let me put it on a movie or something, we would all be happier.”
“And if you both would
shut the hell up, we would all be a lot happier!” Inukai yelled. “Now do just
that and I’ll be very happy.”
Anna and Max quieted down, both thinking
that Inukai was a jerk and shouldn’t interfere with other people’s arguments.
Nina left the bathroom now wearing her black kimono that had dragons and phoenixes on it. She was about to go to her room, when she heard a conversation that caught her attention.
“She was a full demon when she killed Mukotsu, Kagome,” the first voice said.
“Are you sure, Inuyasha?” Kagome asked nervously.
“Yeah. I smelled it in the air,” Inuyasha said. “I don’t know how she turned to a full demon and I have no idea how she changed back.”
“Does she remember what happened while she was full demon?” Kagome asked.
“No,” Inuyasha said. “And let’s keep it that way. We can’t tell her what she did or she’ll become fearful of using her demonic powers. She may even leave us thinking that she’ll turn into a full demon and hurt us. Believe me, I know. That’s exactly how I felt.”
Nina sighed sadly and turned to go to her room. They think I can’t handle the truth. Hmph! I’ll show them! I can know the truth. I do know the truth! I will control my demon blood and use it. No one can tell me what to do and no one’s going to keep any secrets from me! She opened the door to her room and entered it. She then went over to her desk and sat down in her chair. She spun it around and stared out the window with her arms crossed. No one’s going to tell me what I can and cannot do, not even Inukai. She whimpered again and brought her knees up to her chest. He hates me and loves Kayko. I’m his slave and nothing more. That’s all I am to him. I’m not his friend or a member of the band. I’m his slave and that’s all.
Yes. Let the darkness consume your heart, the voice said. Kayko is Inukai’s girlfriend and you aren’t.
Leave me alone, you stupid good for nothing voice, Nina thought as she glared out the window.
You hate me. You want me dead, the voice said. You want to enjoy every part of it.
“I said. Leave. Me. ALONE!!” Nina cried standing up. She felt tears fill her eyes.
“Nina, are you okay?” a concerned voice suddenly asked.
Nina turned around to see Inukai. She sniffed and ran over to him throwing her arms around his waist as she began to cry into his chest. Inukai looked at her astonished by her sudden action. He slowly embraced her and began stroking her hair.
“It was horrible,” Nina sobbed.
“What was it? What happened?” Inukai asked as worry began to make its way to his face.
“The-there’s this voice in my head and it won’t leave me alone,” Nina said.
“What? A voice?” Inukai asked looking down at her soft brown hair.
Nina nodded. “And it keeps telling me horrible things.”
“What sort of horrible things?” Inukai asked as he let out a low growl. I’m not letting anything get away with telling her horrible things. I don’t care who they are.
“Stuff like I want to kill people and I enjoy it,” Nina said, “but I don’t! I’d rather not kill anyone at all, but I don’t have a choice most of the time. It kept saying I enjoyed it and I don’t. Oh, Inukai, it was horrible!”
Inukai drew Nina closer to him while he began trying to calm her down. Don’t worry. I’ll find whomever it is that’s doing this to you and make them pay. I won’t let anyone make you miserable like this.
Kayko stood beside the door and watched Inukai and Nina. She felt a surge of jealousy go through her again, but ignored it. “It’s the jewel.”
“What?” Inukai asked looking over his shoulder at Kayko.
Kayko let out a sigh. “Inukai, can I talk to you for a minute alone?”
Inukai looked down at Nina to meet her hazel brown eyes. She nodded and went over to her bed. Inukai nodded and left the room with Kayko.
“So? What is it?” Inukai asked.
“The jewel is doing this to her,” Kayko said.
“What?! How?! She balanced the jewel out! Why is it doing this to her?!” Inukai demanded.
“There are four souls within it,” Kayko said. “Courage, friendship, wisdom, and love. If even one of those four aren’t balanced then the jewel becomes defiled.”
“What’s your point?” Inukai asked crossing his arms.
“My point is, you idiot, that Nina isn’t balancing out one of the four souls,” Kayko said. “Midoriko and the demons she fought are still inside it. Midoriko isn’t able to reach Nina because her heart is unbalanced. The darkness is stronger than the light and that’s what’s causing Nina to hear such horrible things. And since she’s hearing such things, the jewel is making her heart even darker making the four souls even more unbalanced until the jewel is totally defiled and Nina is nothing, but pure evil.”
Inukai growled and put a hand on the hilt of his sword. “I won’t let that happen. Nina’s going to become the cheerful girl she used to be.”
“You’re the one causing her heart to go into darkness, you moron!” Kayko cried grabbing Inukai by his side burns.
“Ow! Quit it, woman! That hurts!” Inukai cried.
Kayko let him free.
“Sheesh. You don’t have to pull my hair,” Inukai said as he crossed his arms again. “Anyway, what do you mean I’m the one causing her heart to go into darkness?”
Kayko rolled her eyes and muttered, “You are such an idiot.” She then left leaving behind a frowning Inukai.
“Feh, She’s just lying to me,” Inukai said as he turned to go back to Nina’s room. “I mean, how can I be making her heart go into darkness?”
Sharon watched Anna and Max as they began to argue over what to watch again. She rolled her eyes. “Just put it on some sort of anime. Like Dragon Ball GT or something.”
“I would, but Max won’t give it to me,” Anna said pulling the remote in her direction.
“As much as I like DBGT, I say we watch Buffy: The Vampire Slayer,” Max said as he pulled the remote in his direction.
“What?! Uh-uh, no Buffy. We are not watching Buffy,” Sharon said.
“You heard her,” Anna said. “Now hand over the remote.”
“I shall never let go of it until we all agree we’re watching Buffy,” Max said.
“No,” Anna said.
“Not happening,” Sharon said.
Nina got off her bed and left her room just in time to see Inukai come back. “What did she want?”
“Nothing much,” Inukai muttered. “She just thought it would be best if she told me about the whole story of how the jewel was created even though I already knew the whole damn story.”
Nina smiled and put a hand on Inukai’s arm. “Let’s go see what the others are up to.”
Inukai nodded and the two entered the living room to see Sharon, Anna, and Inukai arguing over the remote.
“We’re watching Dragon Ball GT and that’s final,” Sharon said as she and Anna pulled the remote in their direction.
“Yeah,” Anna said.
“We shall watch Buffy,” Max said. “Besides, it has demons.”
“We don’t care,” Anna and Sharon said in unison.
Inukai rolled his eyes. “Max, give them the stupid remote. I’d rather watch DBGT instead of Buffy.”
“I like both of them so I don’t care which one you put it on,” Nina said.
Max’ eyes lit up. “At last, I have found a fan.” He put Nina’s hands in his. “Will you, Nina Summers, bear my child?”
“What?” Nina asked.
“What?!” Inukai asked letting out a low growl.
Anna and Sharon stared at Max wide-eyed.
“Wha-what?” Anna asked.
Sharon crossed her arms. “Another Miroku.” She rolled her eyes. “Sheesh. I didn’t think the world could handle another one.”
“Uhh, Max, I, um…” Nina said sweat dropping and unsure of what to say.
“She doesn’t want to,” Inukai said snarling. “She doesn’t belong to anyone. You got that?!”
Max looked at Inukai a bit startled then said, “Ahh, my apologies. I did not realize she was your woman.”
“What?!” Inukai and Nina asked in unison.
“She’s not my woman,” Inukai said as he began to blush.
“Ye-yeah,” Nina said also blushing.
“Umm-hmm, sure,” Max said smiling.
Anna frowned and hit Max upside the head.
“Ow. What was that for?” Max asked rubbing his head.
“For being an idiot, you moron,” Anna said.
Sharon smirked. “Actually, it should be for being a supreme idiot.”
“I am so hurt,” Max said putting a hand over his heart as he pretended to wipe away a tear.
Inukai frowned and crossed his arms. “Whatever.”
Nina looked up at Inukai as she felt the jewel begin to glow. He really does care for me, doesn’t he? I’m not his slave. I’m his friend.
Inukai looked down at Nina to meet her eyes. I’ll always protect her, no matter what. He saw that the jewel was glowing and felt calming warmth spread through his body. This feeling, what is it?
Nina smiled and went over to Sharon and Anna. “Guys, let’s forget about the TV and go hang out outside or something.”
“Yeah, let’s go,” Anna said shooting Max a glare that clearly said not to follow them or he would get hurt.
“Let’s go hang out in a tree,” Sharon said smiling.
Nina smiled and walked outside with her two best friends. She looked over her shoulder and gave Inukai one last smile before she left with her friends.
Inukai smiled. I don’t know what this feeling is, but I like it. I want her around me all the time.
Kayko’s eyes narrowed as she watched what happened between Inukai and Nina. I specifically told him to stay away from her. Doesn’t he listen to a word I say?! He’s going to make her heart even darker than it already is, that stupid idiot.
