Inuyasha: The Prophecies

Chapter Five
“Okay. That’s it for practice today,” Nina said turning her microphone off.
Anna and Inukai placed their guitars on a shelf while Sharon placed her drumsticks on her drum. Inukai then turned off his own microphone.
“So, who’s up for some food? I’m famished,” Inukai said placing a hand over his growling stomach.
“I am!” Sharon and Anna both cried out in unison.
“You mind?” Anna asked.
“Do you mind?” Sharon asked.
Nina rolled her eyes. “Whatever. Let’s go get some food.”
“Then let’s go to this really great eating place that Sharon and I discovered earlier today,” Anna said.
“Where’s it at?” Nina asked.
“Just follow me and you’ll see,” Anna said.
Inukai, Nina, and Sharon followed Anna as she led them to the restaurant.
“Where are they going?” Inuyasha asked as he looked out the window watching the four teens leave.
“They’re probably going out to get some food,” Kagome said. “They are teenagers, you know.”
Inuyasha grunted and sat down on the couch. “Whatever. They just had better not get into any trouble.”
“I don’t think they will,” Kagome said, but her mind told her differently. For some reason, she had the feeling that Nina was about to come home crying. She shook her head. That’s stupid. Why would she be sad when she has just discovered that all her friends are safe and sound and they’re all with her?
Naraku entered Kanna’s room. “Kanna, I have a task for you.”
“Yes, Lord Naraku?” Kanna asked turning around to face her father.
“I would like you to find Nina and take the Jewel of Four Souls from her,” Naraku said. “That or you could just break it into pieces, but, as you should know, Inukai’s slave is actually Nina and not this Rosalyn. So it should be easy for you to take the jewel from her since Inukai has no memory of what happened and if that girl was smart, she won’t be telling Inukai anything as, I believe, she would fear him telling me anything that she has said to him.”
Kanna nodded as Naraku left. Little do you know, Father, that Inukai does have his memory back and he does know everything that happened.
Nina looked up at the big red neon glowing sign on the top of the restaurant. “The Sengoku Jidai? They named it that? Why?”
Sharon shrugged.
“They must really like the history of Feudal Japan or something,” Anna said.
“Why?” Inukai asked. “That’s where Naraku came from. Don’t they know that?”
“Apparently not,” Anna said.
The four teens entered the restaurant. Inukai and Nina looked around in awe. The restaurant looked more like a club. In the center of the restaurant was a huge stage. The stage was empty at the moment, but Nina was sure that later on someone would be performing on it. The two then turned their attention to the seats and tables. It looked like, judging from the way the seats and chairs looked, that they were in an expensive restaurant. The two saw that there was a second floor and that was where most of the people were eating.
“Come on, you two. You guys can look around after we find somewhere to sit,” Anna said as she and Sharon grabbed Nina and Inukai by the arm and dragged them to where they were going to sit which happened to be in the center of the restaurant right in front of the stage. They had a perfect view of whoever would be up on stage.
A waiter came to them. “What will you four be having?”
“A medium, um, well, at Burger King it’s a whopper,” Anna said. “And a large Vanilla Pepsi.”
“And I’ll have a steak, rice, and potato combo,” Sharon said. “And a large Sierra Mist.”
“I’ll have teriyaki flavored ramen,” Inukai said. “And an extra large Dr. Pepper.”
“I’ll have a medium double cheese burger with no pickles and medium fries,” Nina said. “And a medium chocolate shake.”
The waiter wrote all their orders down and left.
All the lights then went out and neon lights flashed to the stage that was covered with red velvet curtains. Nina and the others turned to face the stage to see a man dressed in a black and white tuxedo holding a microphone.
“And now to present The Angels of Pain,” the man said holding up a hand.
Everyone clapped as the man left and the curtains went up. As soon as the curtains went up, neon lights flashed towards the stage and a beam of white light focused on the main singer.
The singer, who was a girl, looked oddly familiar to Inukai, Anna, Sharon, and Nina. She had long flowing brown hair that was tied back Kikyo style and had hazel brown eyes. She wore the same clothes as Kikyo, red lipstick, white socks, and Japanese style sandals. She looked very sad as she held the microphone getting ready to sing.
Inukai and the three girls then noted that the rest of the group looked very different from their lead singer. They all looked evil. They had long messy black hair that reached their waists and red glowing eyes from what Inukai and the others could see. They all wore black clothing, black lipstick, way too much black mascara and eyeliner, chains that hung loosely off their pants/shorts/skirts, and spiked wristbands/anklets/chokers.
Okay. Those guys officially freak me out, Nina thought.
Anna, Sharon, and Inukai then realized whom the lead singer looked like and looked towards Nina.
“I thought you said you didn’t have a sister,” Inukai said.
“I don’t,” Nina said.
“Then explain that,” Sharon said pointing a finger towards the lead singer.
“Shh, she’s starting to sing,” Nina said actually trying to change the subject.
Anna and Sharon let out a sigh and turned to watch the band. Inukai turned and watched the lead singer suspiciously.
The lead singer began singing.
Quietly awakening…
I always, always wish
That these fleeting thoughts
Would reach you…
Unable to move forward across “just a little
More” distance
The way I see before me is always blocked
Every time the days I want to see you but
Can’t pile up,
My heartbeat turns into heartbreak.
If there is such a thing as “eternity,”

The chorus began.

I’ve known all too well about pretending to

The chorus began again.

Once the lead singer had finished singing My Will, she and Inukai looked into each other’s eyes. It was then that Inukai realized who she was.
“Such a sad song,” Nina said. “I wonder who it was that made her so sad.”
“It’s… Kayko,” Inukai said softly.
Nina looked towards Inukai confused. She then looked towards the lead singer and realized Inukai was talking about her. Does he… love her or something?
The singer walked off the stage and began walking towards Inukai. Inukai stood up. The girl soon reached him.
“You’re… still alive?” the girl asked.
“Alive? What does she mean?” Nina asked.
“How did you survive?” Inukai asked gritting his teeth and bringing up a clawed hand.
“I could ask you the same thing,” the girl said as one of the band members brought her her bow and quiver filled with arrows.
“Inukai, who is she? What are you guys talking about?” Nina urged as a look of worry crossed her face.
“She’s the woman who betrayed me,” Inukai said. “Her name’s Kayko and she’s the one who almost killed me a few months ago.”
“Only to stop you from using the jewel for such an evil deed,” Kayko said as she aimed an arrow on her bow.
The audience began running for the doors knowing that a fight was about to begin and they didn’t want to be around when it did.
“Evil deed?” Nina asked.
“He is the one who betrayed me,” Kayko said.
“What?! You’re the one who betrayed me!” Inukai cried. “You see…”
A few months ago…
Inukai ran through the town towards a temple. He was almost there when several arrows hit the sleeves of his shirt and his pants pinning him to a tree. He looked towards the one who had pinned him against the tree and snarled.
Kayko turned around to leave.
“Hey! Come back here and fight me!” Inukai cried.
Kayko looked over her shoulder towards Inukai. “I am not fighting you. You might as well give up on trying to get the Shikon Jewel.”
“Why don’t you ever try to kill me?!” Inukai demanded.
“You’re a waste of arrows. Now leave,” Kayko said and left.
A few days later, Inukai found himself watching Kayko, who was looking towards the town, as he sat down on a tree branch.
“I know you’re there, Inukai,” Kayko said. “You have no need to hide. I can sense your presence anyway. Come and enjoy the view with me.”
Inukai jumped out of the tree and landed a few feet away from Kayko. “What are you trying to pull, witch?”
“Nothing,” Kayko said.
“I just want you to enjoy the view with me.”
Inukai let out a low growl.
“You and I are the same,” Kayko said as she looked up at the cloudy sky. “I can’t be a normal woman and live a normal life because I have to protect the Shikon no Tama. I can’t ever show my emotions as demons after the jewel will take advantage of me.”
“I’m nothing like you,” Inukai said.
“Of course not,” Kayko said giving Inukai a small smile.
Inukai looked towards her sad face and soon found himself following Kayko closely every day always hiding so that she wouldn’t see him even though he knew she could sense him. One day, Inukai was paddling the boat that Kayko was in across the river. He got out of the boat waiting for Kayko to get out. Kayko got off the boat and began walking towards the land when she tripped and landed in Inukai’s arms. She and Inukai exchanged glances. Inukai then quickly embraced her and she embraced him back. A couple of days later, Inukai met Kayko on a hill. Kayko smiled as she saw him approach.
“So what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?” Inukai asked as he stopped in front of Kayko.
“I must protect the Shikon Jewel until I can find a way to purify it, but I believe I have found a way to purify it,” Kayko said.
“Well, how are you going to?” Inukai asked. “And what will happen to you when you do purify the jewel?”
“Inukai, all you have to do is wish to become a human then the jewel will be purified,” Kayko said. “As for what will happen to me, I will become a normal woman and live a normal life with you.”
“Okay. I’ll do it,” Inukai said.
“Then tomorrow I shall meet you at this very spot and with me, will be the Shikon Jewel,” Kayko said.
The day after, Inukai was walking through the forest towards the hill when he saw two arrows past him. He turned around to see Kayko aiming another arrow. “What the-Kayko?!”
“Die, Inukai!” Kayko cried and released her arrow.
Inukai jumped over it and smirked. “Ha! You’ll have to do better than that, you witch!” He then began running towards the town knowing exactly what he was going to do. He set several houses on fire sending the town up in flames as he approached the temple that he knew had the Shikon Jewel. He ran into the temple and grabbed the Shikon Jewel. He then spun around as he heard the door give way showing the citizens holding up swords, rakes, and what ever they could use as a weapon. Inukai smirked as they shot arrows at him. He jumped up and broke the roof. The citizens below him threw a net at him. Inukai broke through it and began running towards the forest.
“Heh, heh, now that I have the jewel, I can give it to my father who will surely be proud of what I’ve done to your pathetic town,” Inukai said. As soon as he reached the forest, he began running through it. As he ran deeper and deeper into the forest, an arrow flew past him cutting him on the cheek. He turned around to see Kayko grab out another arrow and take aim.
“Inukai, how could you? You were using me the whole time,” Kayko said as her eyes filled with tears. “I must now kill you for your evil deeds.” Her tears began going down her face. “Die, Inukai!” She released her arrow.
Inukai’s eyes widened as the pink glowing arrow hit where his heart was. He felt it go completely through him pinning him against a tree. He weakly opened one eye to see the Shikon Jewel fall out of his hand and onto the ground.
Kayko fell to her knees as she put a hand over her bloody shoulder and picked up the Shikon Jewel with her free hand. “To use the jewel for such a thing is very vile of you to do so.”
Several people ran over to her including Kianna, Kayko’s little sister. Tears began going down Kianna’s face.
“Sister Kayko, are you okay?” Kianna asked.
“I will not live,” Kayko said. “Kianna, take the jewel and give it to the one named Nina. She is our only hope left.” She looked towards Inukai. Hopefully, she will not fall under the same spell I did.” She then fell to the ground as her sister cried out her name.
Inukai felt his eyes close then found himself in darkness.
“And that was when my father freed me,” Inukai said.
“You’re lucky I wasn’t around to kill him,” Kayko snapped. “But you’re lying about me betraying you. I did ask you to meet me the next day and you agreed to, but that fateful day…”
A few months ago…
Kayko was walking up the hill carrying the Shikon Jewel and several flowers. She then felt sharp claws go across her shoulder. She fell to the ground dropping the flowers and Shikon Jewel. She reached for the Shikon Jewel when a foot stepped on her hand. She looked up angrily to see Inukai. Her eyes widened then filled with hurt and anger.
“Heh, I never wanted to become a weak little human like you,” Inukai said picking up the Shikon no Tama. “But thanks for the jewel. I think I’ll go cause some havoc in the town.” He left Kayko behind as she winced in pain.
“Traitor!” Kayko cried.
“I then searched for you and saw you running away from the town,” Kayko said. “I followed you and I tried to end your life and I see it was all in vain.”
Inukai growled. “Who’s lying to whom?”
Nina looked towards Inukai then towards Kayko clearly confused. They both think that the other betrayed them. Wait a sec! How did Naraku know about what happened to Inukai? And how can Inukai and Kayko have two different stories about who betrayed who? This all sounds oddly familiar.
“This reminds me of Kikyo and Inuyasha,” Sharon whispered.
Anna nodded.
Nina’s eyes widened. Of course! Naraku must’ve transformed into both of them to make it so that they both betrayed each other. How else would they both think the other betrayed them? Sure the other could be lying, but I don’t think that’s the case. When Kayko was singing, she spilled out her whole soul into it and Inukai would never lie to me. “Guys, neither of you betrayed each other. I have proof.”
“I saw it with my own eyes!” Inukai cried.
“So did I!” Kayko cried.
“And I have an explanation for it all!” Nina cried trying to get the two to believe her.
“Heh, I don’t see how,” Inukai said crossing his arms and keeping his gaze on Kayko.
Nina growled. “Will you quit being a stubborn idiot?! I’m being serious because you two are going to kill each other if you don’t let me explain things! Now shut up before I make you you-know-what!”
Anna and Sharon backed up a little while Inukai’s eyes widened and he hid behind a chair.
“Man, Nina can be scary when she’s mad,” Anna said.
Sharon nodded.
“I-I’m not scared,” Inukai said still hiding behind the chair.
Kayko raised an eyebrow and looked down at Inukai. She then smiled as she looked towards Nina and put her weapon away. She then crossed her arms. “So? Tell me what you think really happened.”
“Well,” Nina said calming down, “I believe that when Kayko was going to see Inukai, she had been attacked, but it wasn’t Inukai. It was Naraku who had transformed into him. Naraku took the jewel then transformed into Kayko before she had been wounded and placed the Sacred Jewel back where it rightfully belonged. He then went into the forest and knew Inukai was there. He attacked Inukai causing him to go to the town and steal the jewel as his revenge. When Inukai was running away, the real Kayko found him and went in pursuit of him. As they ran deeper and deeper into the forest, Kayko knew she was using up all her strength and so shot out a warning arrow. Inukai turned around to see whom it was and was distracted by her wounds. Kayko had taken that chance to attack Inukai and take the jewel even though she hadn’t wanted to. She shot her arrow and Inukai was pinned against the tree. The two then fell into darkness and soon found light again thinking that they had been killed, but had miraculously survived.”
Inukai stood up and stared at Nina with wide eyes while Kayko just smiled impressed by everything that Nina had said.
“Perhaps that is what happened,” Kayko said. “I know I can trust you unlike this half breed.”
Inukai shot her a death glare, but Kayko paid no attention to it. “How do you know you can trust her?!”
“Because she as the Jewel of Four Souls, you ungrateful mongrel,” Kayko said. “If she truly was evil, the jewel wouldn’t be as pure as it is right now.”
Inukai grunted.
Kayko then looked out of the corner of her eye towards the stage. “Get ready to fight. We have a visitor.”
They all spun around to face the stage. Inukai unsheathed his sword and stood in front of Nina. Kayko grabbed out an arrow and took aim. Sharon got ready to use her foxfire or any of Sesshomaru’s attacks. Anna looked around for a weapon to use. Nina watched in worry.
Out of the curtains that covered the stage, emerged a dark figure.
