Inuyasha: The Prophecies
By: Guardian Angel
Chapter Three
Dinner was over and they all began walking to their rooms to sleep. Inukai and Nina were almost out of the dining room when…
“Inukai, come here and bring your slave,” Naraku said as he stood up.
Nina looked up at Inukai. Inukai nodded and took Nina’s hand. The two then went over to Naraku.
“What is it?” Inukai asked.
“Your slave, she is what made you late, correct?” Naraku asked.
Inukai looked down at Nina as she looked up at him. The two then looked back towards Naraku.
“No. I, uh, kinda lost track of time,” Inukai half lied since part of it was true anyway.
Naraku just gave Nina a cold look then said, “We don’t have any rooms left for slaves. Therefore, since she is your responsibility, you find her a room.”
“No problem,” Inukai said.
“Very well. You are dismissed,” Naraku said.
Inukai took Nina’s hand and led her to his room. He closed the door behind him and leaned against it once the two had entered the room.
Nina sat down on his bed. She let out a sigh. “So, where am I sleeping at or do I have to wait until I’ve been spoken to, to know?”
Inukai sighed and looked towards her as he crossed his arms. “You can sleep on my bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.”
Nina got up and went over to him. “You sure? I mean, I’m your slave. I already think you’re crazy for letting me sleep in here. Aren’t you afraid that I might kill you?”
Inukai shook his head. “I’m sure and I know you won’t try to kill me.”
“How do you know?!” Nina demanded. “I’m not that soft that I wouldn’t think about it.”
Inukai quickly grabbed her hand gently holding it in his own. His eyes softened. “Because I know you won’t. Kanna showed me everything that happened. And… I actually remember it all.”
Nina felt her heart begin to speed as her cheeks began turning to a rosy shade of red. She felt the Shikon Jewel begin to glow as the warmth was spreading through her body. “Inukai…”
“I saw it all and I remember it all,” Inukai said. “You don’t hate me and I know it. I’m your friend and I will always protect you. I promise.”
The two looked into each other’s eyes.
Inukai felt his breathing become slow as his heart began to speed.
Their faces drew closer, closer, closer, then…the door opened. Standing beside it was Alendria.
Nina and Inukai quickly parted. Nina sat down at the foot of Inukai’s bed while Inukai turned to face Alendria.
“What do you want?” Inukai asked.
“Oh, nothing really,” Alendria said looking towards Nina.
Nina then remembered that she and Inukai hadn’t killed Alendria and Seth in their final battle. That means that she and Seth remember everything. Her eyes lit up. They then stopped glowing as another realization came to her. They both hate my guts then. She groaned. And they might tell Naraku if he doesn’t already know.
“Then why did you come?” Inukai asked his eyes narrowing.
“None of your business and I don’t have to answer you so don’t even say it,” Alendria said leaving.
Inukai growled and slammed the door close right after Alendria had walked out. “I hate that woman. I hate her. I hate her. I hate her!”
Nina sighed and climbed onto the bed. She then pulled the silky gold and red covers off and lied down on the bed then covered herself. The pillows were also made of the same silk and were the same colors. They were fluffy and soft. The bed felt the same way.
Inukai went over to his window and closed the window. He then covered the windows with the red velvet curtains. He turned his back to the window and sat down in front of it with his legs crossed and leaned his back against the window. He then closed his eyes as he began falling asleep.
Nina watched him and smiled. She then closed her eyes and fell asleep, too.
Anna pushed Max out of her house. “I said, you have to go now. It’s almost midnight. And I still have homework to do.”
“But-”
“No buts,” Anna said and pushed him completely out of her house. She then slammed her door. “Sheesh. I am never letting him come over again. No matter how bored I am.” She went over to her backpack and grabbed out her homework. She then began working on it.
Nina heard groaning and opened both of her eyes to see it was coming from Inukai. She got up and went over to him. She saw that his breathing was ragged. She put a hand to his forehead to see it was freezing cold. She then remembered that Inukai had given her his orange shirt to wear. She took it off and placed it on him. She then got up and went over to his deep chestnut colored closet and looked through his clothes trying to see if there were any blankets in it. She found there were none and began looking around for something else to use.
He could get sick if I don’t find something to help keep him warm, Nina thought. She then groaned when she found nothing. Oh, I give up! She then went over to Inukai’s bed and covered herself when she realized the covers were warm. Oh, no. I am NOT sleeping in the same bed with him. She sighed knowing she would have to, at least for this night. She went over to Inukai. “Hey, wake up.”
Inukai groaned.
“Wake up. Come on,” Nina said and saw that Inukai wasn’t waking up. She frowned then realized how to wake him up. “Inukai, sit.”
Inukai fell down face flat to the ground. He growled and sat up. “Why did you do that, wench?!”
Nina smiled knowing that she could still sit Inukai. She pointed her finger to the bed. “Come lay down with me.”
“What?! Why?!” Inukai asked turning a deep shade of red.
“Because you’re freezing without anything to warm you up and those are the only blankets I could find for you to use,” Nina said.
Inukai nodded and stood up. She did, too. They then went over to the bed.
“Okay. Here’s the deal,” Nina said. “You stay on your side of the bed and you can stay. If you don’t, I’ll hurt you.”
Inukai smirked. “Do I look like the kind of guy Miroku is?”
Nina rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”
“Wait. What happens if you don’t stay on your side of the bed?” Inukai asked.
Nina gave him a disgusted look. “Like I would.”
The two then went to bed with their backs to each other.
Anna began walking to school that morning when she saw one of her best friends. “Sharon, wait up.”
Sharon, who was now in ninth grade, quickly stopped and turned around to see Anna. “Hey!”
Anna stopped once she had caught up with Sharon. The two began walking to school.
“Your brother is in all my classes,” Anna said. “It’s creepy.”
Sharon just smiled and said, “Yeah. Well, we all have lunch together and I think it’s crowded.”
Anna smiled and the two began talking about everything from how unfair it was that they had to live underground to how boring school could be.
Nina yawned as she woke up. She felt an arm around her waist and a warm figure next to her. She also felt the cold winter morning air as it came through the cracks in the window. She scooted closer to the warm figure still with her eyes closed. She turned around onto her side to come face to face with the warm figure. She scooted closer and felt the figure’s soft hair as it fell over her face. She then put a hand on the figure and found that she was touching the figure’s well-built chest. She then opened her eyes to see she was looking at someone’s well-built chest. She looked up to see it was Inukai. She gave him a small smile as she saw he was still asleep then saw that he was the one who had his arm around her waist. She began blushing and tried to get free.
“Mmm, Nina,” Inukai muttered tightening his grip on her as he drew her closer to him.
Nina began blushing even more and struggled to get free once again.
Inukai let out a low growl and drew her even closer to him.
Nina sighed giving up. She then removed some of Inukai’s hair that had been in her face, put a hand against his chest, closed her eyes, and scooted closer to Inukai’s warm body.
Seth woke up, left his room, and went towards Inukai’s room to give him some big brotherly advice.
Inukai woke up and felt an arm around his waist. He also felt soft hair touching his arm as well as a warm body that was very close to him. He opened both eyes and looked down to see it was Nina. His eyes widened and he began blushing. He then began trying to get free of her.
“Mmm, Inukai,” Nina muttered in her sleep as she tightened her grip on Inukai.
Inukai couldn’t help but smile. He ran a hand through her long brown hair. “Come on, Nina. You gotta wake up.”
Nina groaned and opened both of her eyes. She then looked up at Inukai. When she saw he was awake, her eyes widened and she began blushing. She then pushed Inukai with her left hand. “Yeeek, get away. You passed your side of the bed.”
“Ahem, who passed whose side of the bed?” Inukai asked pulling her right hand out of his white shirt where it had been resting on his waist.
Nina’s blush grew bigger. She then grabbed the arm that was around her waist. “Look who’s talking.”
Inukai smirked while Nina giggled.
“Okay. So we both passed our side of the bed,” Inukai said. He then smiled as a mischievous glint lit his eyes. “But who’s complaining.” As he said this, he put a hand underneath Nina’s chin and tilted it upward looking into her eyes.
Nina felt her heart begin to speed as her cheeks turned to a rosy color. The Jewel of Four Souls began glowing.
Inukai’s eyes softened.
Their faces began drawing closer and closer.
Nina then realized what was going on. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Not happening!” She pushed Inukai off the bed. She then sat up and looked down at the covers. I can’t believe he was going to do that. Ohh, I should kill him for pulling a stunt like that.
Inukai stood up and sent Nina a glare as he pointed a threatening finger at her. “Why did you do that for?!”
Nina looked towards him clearly angry. “You were going to kiss me!”
“So?!” Inukai demanded. “You kissed me on the cheek!”
“Wha-” Nina stared at him with wide eyes. “You-you remember that?”
“Of course I remember it!” Inukai practically shouted. “I remember everything! I was dreaming about everything that had happened to us. And on that one specific moment, it went a little slower than the rest.”
Nina felt her face turn to a shade of red. “We-well, that doesn’t mean you suddenly get to kiss me.” After she had said that, she turned away and went into an Inuyasha pose.
Inukai threw his hands up in frustration. “Stupid girl, don’t you get anything?!”
Nina shot him a glare then said, “Of course I get anything. How do you think I got to the tenth grade?!”
Inukai growled and grabbed her by the shoulders. “You understand nothing!” His eyes then softened. “… Puppy.”
Nina’s eyes widened. They then softened. “I haven’t heard anyone call me that for a long time.” Tears filled her eyes. “It is you, Inukai.” She quickly gave the half dog demon boy a hug.
Inukai embraced her and began stroking her hair.
“I’ve missed you so much,” Nina said as she buried her face into his orange shirt taking in the forest scent that covered it. Tears began going down her cheeks.
“I’ve missed you, too,” Inukai said softly. He then took a few steps back to look down at her teary face. He wiped her tears away. “I’ll take you home today, ‘kay?”
Nina nodded.
“And I’ll visit you as often as I can,” Inukai said.
Nina nodded again and smiled as she gave Inukai yet another hug. “Thank you for everything.”
Inukai smiled and embraced her yet again. “Anytime.”
Just then, the door opened. Inukai and Nina quickly parted and looked towards the door to see Seth who had his arms crossed and was looking at the two dully.
Inukai growled. “What is it now?!”
“I need to speak with you,” Seth said. “Alone.” When he said this, he looked towards Nina.
Nina sighed and went towards the door. “I’ll see ya later then.” She left.
Inukai turned towards his half brother. “What is it?”
Seth looked towards his brother. “I should warn you, do not get too close to your slave. You may regret it.”
Inukai growled. “And why will I regret it?”
Seth didn’t answer him. “Don’t repeat the past. We can’t afford it.”
“Wha- what do ya mean?!” Inukai demanded.
“If you do get close to her, protect her with your life. She’s very important,” Seth said not bothering to answer Inukai.
Inukai grunted. “I have no choice. I have to protect her because she’s a puppy.”
Seth turned to leave. “Don’t lose her, got it? She’s very important for our future.” With that, he left.
“‘She’s very important for our future,’” Inukai said mimicking his older brother. “As if. What can she do? She only made things worse.” He sighed. “No. She didn’t make things worse. The stupid Shikon no Tama did.” He left his room to find Nina.
Nina wondered into the garden and sat down underneath the tree she had sat down underneath the day before. She leaned against the tree and closed her eyes. “The Shikon Jewel and my friends have gotten me this far. I can’t give up.” She then opened her eyes and looked towards the mansion. “I will get rid of Naraku even if it’s the last thing I do.”
“And let us both hope it shall not be the last thing ye does,” a voice said.
Nina let out a yelp of surprise and turned around to see Kaede. She put a hand over her speeding heart trying to calm it down. “Don’t scare me like that, Lady Kaede. I thought you were a demon or someone who was on Naraku’s side.”
“Now, now, child, ye is safe here as long as Lord Inukai is around,” Kaede said smiling.
Nina smiled and nodded. “Yeah. He’ll protect me from everyone that wants to harm me.”
Kaede smiled warmly. “I must go now, but ye need not worry for ye does have friends here even if ye does not realize it yet.” With that, she went over to the rose bushes and began cutting off all the dead branches.
Nina sighed and turned back around. She then looked up at the sky that was clear of clouds.
Inukai sighed and leaned against the wall. He had been everywhere in the palace and still couldn’t find Nina. Maybe she went home. Nah, she would’ve told me if she was going to.
Kanna came over to her brother when she saw him. “Maybe you should check the place where you saw her last night.” She then left.
Inukai watched his sister leave a bit surprised and a bit bewildered. Does she mean to meet Nina where I saw her last night? She’s not in my room, she’s not in the dining room, and she’s not in the front yard, which means she’s in the garden! He began running in the direction of the garden.
Nina let out a yawn and lied down. She then closed her eyes. “It’s so beautiful here. I don’t really want to leave now.” She then opened her eyes. “But I have to in order to get the others.”
“I’m included, too, right?” a voice suddenly asked.
Nina let out another yelp and jumped back to see that it was only Inukai. She, once again, put a hand over her heart to calm it down.
Inukai smirked. “You still get scared so easily like a puppy.”
Nina playfully pushed Inukai and smiled. “I am not a puppy.”
Inukai crossed his arms. “Umm-hmm, sure.”
“Umm, so, when are you going to take me home?” Nina asked.
Inukai’s smirk disappeared. “You want to go right now?”
Nina shrugged. “My family’s probably worried about me and I don’t want to keep them worrying.”
“You want to go out into town and look around first?” Inukai asked.
Nina smiled and nodded. “Okay. Sure. Sounds like fun.”
Anna took her seat in her first period class. She then looked to her left to see Nina’s seat was empty. She raised an eyebrow and began wondering why Nina wasn’t at school.
“Perhaps she has fallen ill,” Max said startling Anna.
Anna shot him a glare. “Don’t speak to me. Besides, I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh?” Max asked raising an eyebrow. “I was speaking of your beautiful friend, Nina.”
Anna rolled her eyes. “Just mind your own business.” She then turned to face the teacher.
Max groaned and turned to face Talon. “We both know she wants me.”
Talon didn’t say anything and had his full attention on the teacher.
Max frowned and turned back around.
Inukai and Nina went on top of the roof.
Nina gulped. “You sure about this?”
Inukai frowned and grabbed her hand. “Of course I’m sure. Besides, this way is faster. Now climb on.”
Nina climbed onto his back. Once Inukai was sure she was on, he began jumping from roof to roof.
Nina closed her eyes as the wind blew her hair back. It seemed like ages to her since she last rode on Inukai’s back. She wrapped her arms around Inukai’s neck and buried her face in his soft white hair. Inukai looked towards her out of the corner of his eye and smiled.
Kagura entered Kanna’s room and went over to her as she stared out the window. “I know you helped Inukai. You are not to do so or Naraku will be sure to kill you, sister.”
Kanna continued staring out the window and said, “What I do is my business and no one else’s. If Naraku kills me, then so be it. But before he does, he should know my plan.”
“Plan?” Kagura asked raising an eyebrow. “What sort of plan?”
Kanna turned to face her sister as her mirror began to light up.
Riku went downstairs and into the kitchen to see the woman he was looking for. “Grandma Kaede, do you know if we have any soda?”
Kaede turned away from the dishes she was doing to face Riku. She sighed. “At last, all the soda is gone, child.”
Riku looked down at the ground disappointedly.
“But,” Kaede began.
Riku looked up at her, his eyes filled with hope.
“I saved one for my favorite master,” Kaede said and grabbed out a Dr. Pepper from the cupboard.
Riku smiled, ran over to her, and took the soda. “Thank you, Kaede. You’re the best.” He then ran off leaving behind a very happy Kaede.
Inuyasha and Kagome stopped in front of a house.
“You sure they live here?” Inuyasha asked.
“Yes, I’m sure,” Kagome said.
“Will they accept me?” Inuyasha asked a bit worriedly.
Kagome looked up at him and patted him on the shoulder. “Of course they will. They are, after all, related to you.”
Inuyasha sighed and nodded.
Kagome then knocked.
Inukai landed on top of the roof of the mall. Nina climbed off his back and ran to the edge of the roof as she looked down at the snowy ground.
“Wow! What a view!” Nina said happily as her breath showed little white puffs from the chill of the winter.
Inukai went over to her and smiled. “Yeah. You can see everything.”
Nina turned around to face him and grabbed his hand excitedly. “Come on. Let’s go shopping!”
“Wha-” Inukai didn’t have time to finish his sentence as Nina dragged him to the stairs, down the stairs, and into the mall as she went into a shopping rampage.
Anna took her seat half wishing Nina was there so she could try to get away from Max and half wishing Nina was there so she could throttle her for not being at school to save her from Max.
“Hey, you gonna scoot over or what?” a voice suddenly asked.
“Huh? What?” Anna asked looking around confused then noticed blonde head Sharon was standing next to her. “Oh.” She then spotted Max coming her way. Her eyes widened and she quickly looked towards Sharon as she scooted over. “Yeah. Sure. Hurry. Sit!”
Sharon gave her a puzzled look.
“Sit! Sit! Sit!” Anna cried as she spotted Max coming closer.
“Okay. Okay. I will. Sheesh,” Sharon said sitting down.
Anna let out a sigh of relief.
Inuyasha and Kagome stood in front of the door as it opened. Nina’s mother stood in front of them. She gave them both a puzzled look. Her eyes then darted to Inuyasha’s ears. Her eyes widened. She opened her door even more.
“Come in. Quickly.” Mrs. Summers said as she looked down the streets making sure no one was looking.
The couple nodded and entered as Nina’s mother closed the door. She then turned to face the two.
“It must be very important whatever the reason is that brought you here,” Mrs. Summers said. “Follow me.”
Inuyasha and Kagome obeyed.
