Epilogue

Nina sat at the edge of the well looking down at the Shikon no Tama. The day to purify the jewel was coming closer and closer and she still didn’t know what to wish for. She stood up. I’ll ask Inukai what he wants. She went over to the forest and saw Albert running away from an enraged Inukai.

“Come back here and take that back, you brat!” Inukai shouted at the little cat demon.

“No!” Albert said sticking out his tongue.

“Why you little-You’re going to pay!” Inukai cried lunging at him.

Albert let out a cry and jumped away from Inukai and towards Nina.

Nina caught him in her arms giggling. She then began stroking the little cat demon’s hair and looked towards a very angry Inukai. “Why are you so angry for?”

Inukai growled and glared at Albert. “Why don’t you ask him?! I’m sure he’d love to tell you.” He smirked and went into his Inuyasha pose.

Albert frowned and looked towards Nina innocently. “Well, you see, I was eating an apple and Inukai took it from me and then-“

“Liar! I did not take no damn apple from you!” Inukai cried.

“Inukai, let him explain his story,” Nina said.

                                    Inukai grunted, but obeyed.

“And then I went after him and took my apple back and ate it and then he started chasing me because I ate it, but it’s not my fault,” Albert explained and whined at the same time. “I was hungry and I had the apple in the first place.”

“You little liar! There was no apple involved in any of it,” Inukai said getting ready to jump at the cat demon.

Albert tightened his grip on Nina’s shirt out of fear.

“Okay. Then you tell me your side of the story,” Nina said.

“Feh. Fine,” Inukai said going back into his Inuyasha pose. “You see, what really happened was I was sitting in the Go-Shinboku Tree eating some chicken teriyaki ramen when he came and stole it from me.” As he said this, he pointed an accusing finger at Albert. “I tried getting it back from him, but the little rascal is fast and then he had the nerve to eat all of my ramen!” At this he let out a low growl and shot Albert a glare. “Then I wanted to get my revenge so I chased after the brat set on taking his life. Then I bumped into you and you know the rest now.”

Nina frowned and put Albert down. “Well, you’re safe now, so, go ahead and play with Izumi, Kai, and Sakura.”

Albert nodded and ran into the forest.

Inukai turned around to and started chasing after the cat demon.

                                    “Inukai,” Nina said.

Inukai turned around to face her. “What?”

“Sit, boy” Nina said holding up a finger.

Inukai fell down face flat to the ground. He growled as he sat up and looked towards Nina. “Why did you do that, wench?!”

Nina went over to him and kneeled down beside him. “Albert doesn’t know any better. He’s still a kid and you shouldn’t pick on people who aren’t even half your size.”

Inukai went back into his Inuyasha pose with his legs crossed and stubbornly looked towards the forest. “Feh. Tell him to leave me alone and I’ll leave him alone.”

“He only does it because he knows he’ll get to you,” Nina said smiling warmly and placing a hand on his arm.

“Whatever,” Inukai said closing his eyes.

Nina took her hand away from Inukai’s arm and looked up at the sky blue sky. “If you could have one thing in the entire world, what would it be?”

“Huh? What’s all this garbage you’re talking about?” Inukai asked turning to face her. “Well?”

“Oh, nothing. Just wondering,” Nina said looking down at the ground.

Inukai leaned against the well and put his hand behind his head. “Well, if I could have one thing I wanted in the whole world it would probably be to have a real family.”

Nina nodded and stood up. “I’m going to go take a walk.”

Inukai frowned. “Whatever. Just be careful. Even if Naraku’s gone, there are still demons out there who can’t wait to kill a human or half demon or capture them and use them as bait.”

Nina smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” She left walking into the forest. She soon spotted Albert, Izumi, Kai, and Sakura playing tag. Albert spotted her and jumped up. She caught him in her arms again.

“You’re it,” Albert said looking up at her.

Nina smiled. “Well, you had better run or I’ll tag you.”

Albert’s smiled widened and he jumped out of Nina’s arms.

Just then, Inukai came. “It? Heh, betcha can’t catch anyone, can ya?” As he said this he went into his Inuyasha pose with his eyes closed.

Nina smiled. “Oh? You sure about that?” She jumped at Inukai causing him to fall down on his back to his surprise. “Looks like I just tagged you.”

Inukai smiled. “Well, you had better run or I’ll tag ya.”

Nina stood up giggling and ran further into the forest.

Inukai stood up and held up a clawed hand playfully. “I shall have my revenge.”

“You’re not supposed to be playing with us,” Albert said with his arms crossed.

Inukai frowned. “I’ll play if I want to.”

“You only want to play ‘cause Nina is,” Albert said.

                                    “Yeah,” Kai said.

“I do not,” Inukai said looking away as he began blushing.

                                    “Do too,” Sakura said.

“Admit it,” Albert said pointing a finger at Inukai. “You’re in love with Nina!”

“I am not!” Inukai cried as his face began reddening even more. He then ran off into the forest after Nina.

Nina stopped as soon as she had reached the river. She then sat down at the bank of the river and ran her hand through the ice-cold water. She smiled and brought her knees up to her chest hugging them. She then began singing Dearest.

It would be nice if we could put away and throw

                                    Out

Everything except what really mattered, but

                                    Reality is just cruel.

                                    In such times,

                                    I see you laughing

                                    Whenever I close my eyes.

Until the day I reach eternal sleep,

                                    That smiling face will

Have to stay with me without fail.

                                    People are all sad, so

                                    They go and forget, but—

For that which I should love,

For that which gives me love, I will do what I can.

Inukai heard singing and recognized it as Nina’s. He followed the voice and soon spotted Nina. He hid behind a tree and watched her sing as the sun shined on her. She looks like an angel, a beautiful angel. What the-Where did that come from?! Angel?! She’s no angel! She’s the devil. Nonetheless, he continued watching her.

                                    Back then, when we met,

                                    It was all awkward.

We went the long way, didn’t we?

                                    We got hurt, didn’t we?

Until the day I reach eternal sleep,

                                    That smiling face will

Have to stay with me without fail.

                                    Back then, when we met,

                                    It was all awkward.

We went the long way, didn’t we?

We got there in the end.

Nina finished the song and let out a sigh until she heard rustling in the bushes followed by a stream of curses. She stood up and turned around to see Inukai hanging off a tree in an odd angle.

Inukai saw that she had spotted him and he let out another long stream of curses.

“What are you doing?” Nina asked raising an eyebrow as she put her hands on her hips.

“Nothing, wench. Mind your own business,” Inukai said as he tried getting himself free. Truth was, after Nina was done singing, he was going to leave, but his pants had gotten caught in a tree branch and he had tripped due to that causing him to hang off the tree. Inuyasha then cut the part of his pants (the part where your knee is) that was caught up in the tree branch and fell down all the way to the ground. He stood up, rubbing his head as he let out yet another long stream of curses. He then saw Nina was still watching him, regained his composure and went into his Inuyasha pose. “I was looking for you so I could tag you when I heard a beautiful voice singing and followed it and by the time I got here, it stopped.”

“You-you heard that?” Nina asked as she began blushing. Why am I so nervous all of a sudden? I’ve sung around him before.

“Heh, well, the voice was a whole lot prettier than yours,” Inukai said.

Nina didn’t know rather to be happy at the comment about the voice being pretty or be mad at the comment about it being prettier than hers. She sighed and shrugged it off. “Whatever.”

Inukai then opened his eyes and smirked as he looked towards her. Heh, she’s off guard. He then let out a cry as he jumped at her.

Nina let out a yelp of surprise and grabbed onto the sleeve of Inukai’s shirt as she fell down onto her back dragging Inukai with her. The two then stared into each other’s eyes.

“Klutz, look what you’ve done,” Inukai said as his heart began to race and breathing became slower.

Nina chuckled nervously as the same reaction Inukai was having began to happen to her. She felt the Shikon Jewel begin to glow as its warmth spread through her body. “I-it’s not my fault. You’re the one who just jumped at me.”

“It’s not fault you off guard like a puppy,” Inukai said.

“Well, this puppy happens to feel safe around you!” Nina cried. She then began blushing at the words she had said and couldn’t find anyway to hide it.

Inukai also began blushing at what she had just said. “D-did you mean that?”

“Umm… yeah,” Nina said as her blush deepened.

The two looked into each other’s eyes and found they couldn’t look away. Their faces drew closer, closer, closer, closer, until they heard voices coming from the boshes.

“Oooh, this is getting good,” the first voice said.

There was a sound that sounded like the person the first voice belonged to getting slapped.

                                    “Pervert!” the second voice said.

“Guys, keep it down or they’ll hear us,” the third voice said.

                                    “Yeah,” the fourth voice said.

“Ahh, and we wouldn’t want that to happen, would we,” the first voice said. The person the first voice belonged to must’ve gotten slapped again because his next words were, “Ow. That hurt, Sango.”

“It’s what you deserve,” Sango said.

“Yeah, you lecher,” the fourth voice said.

“Come out here, you pesky spies,” Inukai said.

Miroku, Sango, Inuyasha, and Kagome came out of the bushes.

“My boy, you are now a true man,” Miroku said smiling.

Sango hit him upside the head. “Will you quit that?!”

“What ever are you talking about, my dear Sango?” Miroku asked innocently.

Sango threw her hands up in frustration. “I give up!”

Inukai raised an eyebrow at Miroku’s comments then looked down at Nina. The two then realized the position they were in and quickly backed away from each other.

“It’s not what you think!” Nina said her whole face turning a deep shade of red.

“Y-yeah,” Inukai said the same thing happening to him.

                                    “Umm-hmm, sure,” Miroku said.

Sango shook her head giving up on how Miroku could come up with such sick thoughts.

“Let’s go. The others are waiting for us so we can have lunch,” Kagome said trying to change the subject.

They all nodded and began leaving.

                                    Kagome and Inuyasha stayed behind.

“You didn’t growl that time,” Kagome said as she and Inuyasha began slowly walking back to the village Kaede now lived back in that was being rebuilt. “Why?”

Inuyasha shrugged. “I guess there’s nothing to worry about. Inukai’s perfect for her.”

“I suppose you’re right,” Kagome said smiling as she saw Inukai and Nina begin to argue about whose fault it was that had made them fall down.

A couple of weeks later…

Nina woke up and got out of bed. She then changed into the clothing Kikyo and Kaede wore and, after brushing her hair, put her hair up in the same style Kikyo and Kaede wore theirs. Today was the day Nina had to purify the jewel. She knew exactly what she was wishing for and hoped the others would be happy about it. She met Inuyasha and the others outside the hut. All of them were there, including Sharon, Anna, and Sota. She nodded ready to make the journey to the spot she would have to purify the jewel at. They walked all the way towards the Go-Shinboku Tree and stopped once they reached it. They all formed a circle around Nina and held hands hoping for the best. Nina closed her eyes as she began floating up in the air. The Shikon Jewel began glowing. The pink light surrounded her. Nina then made her wish. The light soon surrounded everyone once she had making her wish come true.

The next day…

Nina woke up and looked at her clock to see it was 6:50. She let out a yelp and quickly got out of bed, got dressed, brushed her hair, grabbed her backpack, and ran off to school. “Oh my gosh! I’m going to be so late!” She had made her wish and it had come true.
