Inuyasha: A New Beginning

Chapter Sixteen

                                      Nina shot her arrow at Mukotsu. Mukotsu dodged it and used his poison. Nina covered her nose and held her breath as she shot another arrow to purify the vapors.

                                      Sharon punched Renkotsu. Renkotsu wrapped some of his rope around her and sent out his fire onto it to burn Sharon.

                                      Anna cut Jakotsu. Jakotsu threw his swords at her as she tried to dodge them.

                                      Sota swung his sword at Suikotsu. Suikotsu dodged it and swung his own weapon at Sota.

                                      Inukai charged after his brother and swung his sword. Seth blocked it with his own.

                                      “Brother, how do you expect to kill me with a rusted sword?” Seth asked as he looked at Inukai’s sword. He then jumped back.

                                      Inukai growled, but knew Seth was right about his sword. It was in its rusted form and looked the way Inuyasha’s did when it didn’t transform. This is what I get for being half human. He then looked towards Nina to see her aiming another arrow. And yet, she, too, is half human and she can still remain in her half demon state. How is that possible? Does the Shikon no Tama enable her to stay that way or is it something else? He sighed and looked towards his half brother. He then began charging at him

                                      Nina shot another arrow at Mukotsu. He dodged it again as she felt pain go through her stomach. She saw a saucer go by and looked down at her stomach to see blood as it began going down her skirt. She felt a wave of nausea hit her as she turned to face the one who had hit her with the saucer to see it was Genkotsu. “Coward. Going two against one isn’t fair.” She ignored the dizziness that was overcoming her and continued giving Genkotsu a glare.

                                      Renkotsu threw Sharon against the wall and tied rope around her neck as he began sending rope down it. Sharon gave him a glare and put her hands around the rope. Her hands began glowing a red-orange color. Renkotsu watched in wonder. He then saw fire coming from her side to his. His eyes widened as Sharon smiled.

                                      “Hey, look, I can give you a piece of your own medicine,” Sharon said.

                                      Renkotsu looked at her angrily.

                                      Anna ducked as Jakotsu’s swords came back to him. She then went in for the kill. Jakotsu smiled and jumped over her. Anna gave him a glare as he landed and threw her sword. It stabbed him in the chest. Jakotsu looked at her surprised then looked to the sword.

                                      “Ho-how did you do that?” Jakotsu asked.

                                      “Never take your eyes off me,” Anna said.

                                      Suikotsu cut Sota across the chest then threw him into the wall. Sota got up, but fell back down as he was losing a lot of blood due to the cut.

                                      Inukai looked towards his best friend to see Suikotsu about to kill him. His eyes widened in horror. Kagome will never forgive me if he dies. I’ll never forgive myself if he dies. “Sota, move it!”

                                      Sota just sat there as his eyes began going blank.

                                      “Sota!” Inukai cried.

                                      Nina heard Inukai’s cries and turned towards him. She then followed his gaze to Sota. She gasped. “Oh, no. Sota.” She aimed another arrow ignoring Genkotsu and Mukotsu. Please hit. She released it. It hit Suikotsu’s arm. “Yes!”

                                      Suikotsu lowered his weapon and glared at Nina. He pointed his weapon at Nina. “You will die.” He began charging at her.

                                      Nina didn’t care that Suikotsu wanted to fight her now. She was just glad Sota was alive. She heard something flying towards her and turned around to see it was one of Genkotsu’s saucers again. She sighed and ducked. She heard the saucer hit someone and turned around hoping it hadn’t hit any of her friends to see it had hit Suikotsu. Suikotsu gave her another glare.

                                      “No one hits me two times and gets away with it,” Suikotsu said.

                                      Nina raised an eyebrow. “Well, then you had better go talk to your friend, Genkotsu.”

                                      Suikotsu shook his head. “You are very naïve. You see, that attack was meant for you, not me.”

                                      “How do you know?” Nina asked. “Maybe Genkotsu shot that knowing I would duck so he could hit you.”

                                      Suikotsu growled. “Enough of your lies!” He held his weapon up and went in for the kill. An arrow hit Suikotsu’s weapon. Suikotsu glared at the one who had shot the arrow to see Alendria.

                                      “She’s mine,” Alendria said.

                                      Suikotsu growled and lowered his weapon. “Fine.”

                                      “Gee, everyone just wants a piece of me today,” Nina muttered. “First, every guys wants to go out with me now this. What’s next?”

                                      Alendria smiled as she aimed another arrow. “Don’t worry. If you die, you won’t have those things to worry about.”

                                      Renkotsu released the rope as Sharon’s fire came closer to him. Sharon smiled as she untied the rope around her neck and threw it to the ground.

                                      “What’s the matter?” Sharon asked. “Are you scared of fire all of sudden? Don’t want to play with it anymore?”

                                      Renkotsu let out a growl.

                                      “I’ll take care of this insolent puppy,” a voice said.

                                      Sharon and Renkotsu looked up to see Bankotsu.

                                      Renkotsu nodded and left.

                                      “Hey! Who are you calling a puppy?!” Sharon said putting her hands on her hips.

                                      Bankotsu smirked. “Well, you obviously don’t know, but you’re one-third fox demon, one-third dog demon, and one-third human. How humans, demons, and half breeds have forgotten what they really are and about themselves, I have no idea.”

                                      Sharon only looked at him wide eyed. “I’m part fox demon, dog demon, and human? How cool is that?”

                                      Bankotsu rolled his eyes. “Are you going to fight or not?”

                                      “Uhh, right,” Sharon said getting back into her fighting pose. “Sorry. Got a little distracted there.”

                                      Jakotsu took Anna’s sword out of him. “Well, I should thank you for the new sword, so thank you.”

                                      Anna sighed. “Yeah. Sure. Whatever.”

                                      Jakotsu frowned. “Not even a ‘you’re welcome?’”

                                      “Fine. You’re welcome. There. You happy?” Anna asked getting irritated.

                                      “Yes, I am,” Jakotsu said as he threw his swords at her again.

                                      Anna let out a sigh and jumped on top of one of the swords. As it turned to go back to Jakotsu, she jumped on top of another sword. She then kneeled down and patiently sat there. As soon as it got to Jakotsu, she did a flip over him and grabbed out a dagger from her back pocket. As she landed behind Jakotsu, she stabbed him. Jakotsu turned his head to face her in surprise.

                                      “Are you-could you be-but how? They don’t exist here anymore,” Jakotsu said.

                                      “Huh? What are you talking about?” Anna asked.

                                      “We shall meet again,” Jakotsu said disappearing leaving behind a very bewildered Anna.

                                      Seth stabbed Inukai in the stomach. He then took out his sword. “You really should worry about yourself and not your friends.”

                                      Inukai gave him a dark look. “You might be older than me, but you’re sure as hell not boss of me!” He charged at Seth holding his sword over his head.

                                      Seth smirked and kneeled down getting ready to stab Inukai again.

                                      Nina blocked Alendria’s arrow with hers and looked towards Inukai and Seth to see Seth about to stab Inukai. Her eyes widened as she turned her attention away from Alendria not caring if she hit her at the moment. Inukai. “Inukai! Look out!”

                                      Inukai looked towards Nina as he still kept charging at Seth. He then looked towards Seth and realized what she was screaming about. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to stop himself and so braced himself for the pain he was soon going to feel.

                                      Nina watched in horror. “Inukai… I can’t let him die, but how am I supposed to save him? I can’t do everything.” Tears began to fill her eyes. “Inukai.” She began biting her lip as she watched Inukai grow nearer to Seth and his swords. Her hands turned to fists. “You have to live. You can’t leave me behind like this.” The Shikon Jewel began glowing again. “Inukai!” Pink light shot out of the jewel and hit Inukai.

                                      Inukai jumped up in the air. He saw his hair begin to turn white and knew he was turning back to his half demon self. His sword transformed into the shape it took on the first time Nina saw him use it. He smirked and turned it to face Seth. He could smell Nina’s scent. It was very strong, stronger than it usually was. It was as though she was standing right next to him. He felt what felt like a hand go over his, but when he looked down at his own hand he saw nothing there and yet he could feel a hand over his. It felt just like Nina’s. He looked over towards her to see she was worried about him and the jewel was glowing. He turned his attention back to Seth and went in for the kill.

                                      Seth jumped back and threw Mukotsu in the way. This caused Inukai to cut Mukotsu in half.

                                      “He was of no help anyway,” Seth said as he watched Mukotsu die. “He was supposed to stop that girl from interfering.” He looked towards Alendria. “And you should’ve distracted her.”

                                      Alendria only shot him an ice-cold look.

                                      “Brother, we shall meet again and I promise, that is when we will really have our last battle,” Seth said. “And it shall be the battle to the death.” With that said, he, the Shichinintai, and Alendria disappeared.

                                      Nina ran to Inukai’s side as soon the pink light disappeared. He turned back to his human form and his sword turned back to its rusted form. “Are you okay?”

                                      Inukai looked towards her to see the jewel was faintly glowing. He then looked up at her face to see it was filled with concern. He looked away. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Sheesh. Didn’t I already tell you that?”

                                      Nina hugged him. “I’m so glad you’re okay. I thought you were going to die. I told you not to fight. This is exactly why I told you not to.” Tears began going down her face as she buried her face in his shirt. “I was suppose to protect you and I almost failed. I’m so sorry.”

                                      Inukai looked down at the young girl in surprise. Never had she actually hugged him intentionally. He wrapped his arms around her and began stroking her hair. “There, there, I’m alive, okay. Now, will you quit your crying?”

                                      Nina wiped her tears away and looked up at him. “I know. It’s just, I’m so happy you’re alive. I was so worried about you.”

                                      She was worried… about me? Inukai looked down at her face as he wiped a tear away that was beginning to go down her cheek. He drew her close to him as he laid his head on hers. “I’m sorry I worried you.”

                                      Nina sighed knowing Inukai was right. The jewel glowed even more. The two then heard a growl and turned around to see Inuyasha (who was the one growling), Kagome, Izumi, Anna, Sharon, and Sota all waiting patiently (or impatiently for Inuyasha, Sharon, and Anna) for the two to stop getting all mushy.

                                      “Umm, it you two are done, I think it’s best if we leave now before the police come,” Kagome said.

                                      Nina nodded and released herself from Inukai. She then stood back up when the Shikon Jewel began glowing even more. The jewel, along with the string that it was connected to, floated above Nina’s head as it left her neck then went into the center of Anna, Sharon, Nina, Sota, Inukai, Inuyasha, Kagome, and Izumi. It glowed pink. The light surrounded all of them. The scene began changing. They soon found themselves in a field plane with a sky blue sky. Standing in the center was a warrior. The warrior came into their view and they saw that it was a very beautiful woman.

                                      “Hello, all,” the woman said.

                                      Kagome drew Izumi near her. “Are you the spirit within the jewel?”

                                      “Yes, I am,” the woman said. “Most of you know my name as Midoriko.”
                                      “Midoriko?” Nina asked. “The warrior priestess who fought the demons for seven days and seven nights? The one whose soul was about to be sucked out? The one who used the last of her energy to take the demon’s soul and take it into her own soul and expel it out of her body to create the Jewel of Four Souls? Where the battle is still raging on? That Midoriko?”

                                      The woman nodded. “I know very well how you know of me, child. I will now reveal everything that you wish to know of.”

                                      All of them started bursting with questions.

                                      Midoriko raised a hand. “Silence. I shall answer each and everyone of your questions one at a time, though I am pleased to see that you all have a thirst for knowledge.”

                                      “I’m not so sure that can be said for all of us,” Nina said smiling and looking towards Inukai.

                                      Inukai grunted. “And what’s that supposed to mean?”

                                      Nina continued smiling. “Nothing.”

                                      “Let’s not go astray of the task at hand,” Midoriko said.

                                      They all nodded.

                                      “Where are we, first of all,” Kagome said.

                                      “We are all within the jewel,” Midoriko said. “Do not fear, we, as well as the jewel, are safe.”

                                      “Why does the jewel always glow?” Nina asked.

                                      “It glows when all the souls are combined within you,” Midoriko said. “When you are feeling courage, friendship, wisdom, and love all at once, the jewel begins to glow. It also will glow when you fear for your friends or wish to speak with them as it will grant your every wish if you balance the jewel which is exactly what you’ve done.”

                                      “So, then, that means Nina’s in love with someone,” Inukai said. “Who’s the unlucky man?”

                                      Nina began blushing and looked down at the ground.

                                      Midoriko smiled warmly. “Any others?”

                                      “Who does Nina love?” Inukai asked.

                                      “That I shall not answer,” Midoriko said.

                                      Inukai groaned.

                                      Nina gasped as she remembered a question she still wanted the answers to. “When did Kagome really supposedly die? She says it was three years ago and Inuyasha and Sesshomaru said it was seven years ago.”

                                      Inuyasha looked towards Kagome. Kagome looked up at Inuyasha.

                                      “To Kagome, it was only three years ago because she had the jewel with her. The jewel knew it was not her time to leave this world. It also knew it was not the time for her to have a child. And so it put her in a fake time for a while for her to mature and it also had it so she could still see her friends, but they weren’t the actual ones. Once she had reached the age of nineteen, we made it seem like she was still fifteen. And so Naraku did his part. As she was supposedly burned, the jewel took her to the time she should be in. It seemed like seven long years for Inuyasha and her friends for they hadn’t been dragged around through time like Kagome had been. Sadly, I believe the affects of time travel will forever be upon all Inuyasha and Kagome’s descendants. This will enable them to be able to time travel, but no one shall believe them,” Midoriko said.

                                      “If I am Kagome’s reincarnation, how am I able to exist? How was the jewel within my body?” Nina asked.

                                      “You are not her reincarnation at all,” Midoriko said smiling. “You are her descendant. The jewel was within you for in the near future Kagome would make a wish upon the jewel that would make it so that the jewel would reside within one of her descendant’s bodies until that one would die and then the jewel would pick the one that was most pure and reside within that one’s. She never thought that the jewel would once again be uncovered and her descendant would do as she had done so long ago. That is the reason it was within you because the jewel knew that it couldn’t stay safe with Kagome and so disappeared through time and space and placed itself within your body. How both of you exist at the same time is a very simple explanation. You see, Kagome wished to stay with Inuyasha, so she stayed in the Feudal Era. Due to this she would’ve made herself none existent. So the jewel made it so she was able to exist in her time as well as Inuyasha’s. The whole story on that is a very confusing one. One of which I do not believe you’ll even be able to understand when you are older. As for how you exist, it is plain to say that the jewel knew you had to exist. The rest of the story is also very confusing. Over all, you, Nina, are a descendant of Kagome and Inuyasha. That is why you are half demon. That is why the jewel resided within your body. That is why you are in this era. It was your destiny that was written all those years ago. You have much to uphold. You are the one who will purify the jewel.”

                                      Nina nodded trying to understand everything she was being told, but some of it was just plain illogical. But, then again, what wasn’t illogical in this era? Demons existing, a magical jewel that gave humans and demons alike some form of power, and magical priestess powers were just some of the things that shouldn’t even exist. It’s all just one big fairy tale. That’s why it was called Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale. I just hope that this all isn’t really a big fairy tale. I hope it really does exist.

                                      “Hey, am I a descendant of anyone?” Sharon asked.

                                      “You are a descendant of Shippo and a girl you do not know of and Sesshomaru and Rin,” Midoriko said.

                                      “Se-Se-Sesshomaru?” Sharon asked her eyebrow twitching.

                                      Midoriko nodded.

                                      Nina wanted to laugh, but decided not to since it would probably be mean and rude.

                                      “What about me?” Anna asked.

                                      “You are a descendant of Sango and Miroku,” Midoriko said.

                                      Anna nodded.

                                      “Which proves why you have a taste for cute lecherous monks,” Nina teased.

                                      “Yeah,” Sharon said.

                                      “Ahh, shut up,” Anna said.

                                      Nina smiled.

                                      All of them then heard a roar followed by screeching.

                                      “What was that?” Nina asked.

                                      “It is the time for you to leave,” Midoriko said.

                                      “But-“ Before Nina could get another word out, the scene began to change and soon they found themselves where they had been only minutes ago.

                                      “Let’s go,” Inuyasha said.

                                      They all nodded and followed him.

                                      “I see,” Miroku said. It was the next day and everyone had explained everything to him and the others. “So, then Anna is related to Sango and me, Lady Nina is related to you and Kagome, and Sharon is related to Sesshomaru, Rin, Shippo, and whoever he married?”

                                      “Yeah, that’s right,” Inuyasha said.

                                      Kagome sat down next to him. “Well, that probably explains why you’ve been growling at any guy who holds her or even gets near her. It also explains why you’ve been so protective of her. You were doing it out of instinct because she was your descendant and you didn’t even know it.” Now, I wonder, why Inukai’s behaving the same way.

                                      “How did I become sort of related to Sesshomaru?” Shippo asked.

                                      “One of your descendants probably married one of his,” Miroku said. “That or you married one of his descendants.”

                                      One of Shippo’s eyebrows began twitching as he looked towards Sesshomaru. “Ma-marry on of his descendants? That would be suicidal.”

                                      Sharon rolled her eyes. “You think I want to be related to him. I want to be related to Inuyasha.”

                                      Nina smiled. “Well, you have said I was a lot like Kagome. And you are a lot like Inuyasha.” Not as much as Inukai is, though. “And he and Sesshomaru both had the same father. And everyone has said he’s a lot like his father, so that explains why you’re so much like him.”

                                      Sharon shrugged and looked off towards the distance still not liking the fact that she was related to Sesshomaru.

                                      Inukai, who was sitting in a tree, was watching Inuyasha and the others. He let out a sigh and looked towards Nina to see the jewel wasn’t glowing. He frowned. I am SO bored. I need something to do. I need to find out who Nina’s in love with. At this thought, he let out a growl as well as a whimper. Why do I keep acting like this? I should’ve asked Mithortiko or whatever her name was. He lied down on his back as he watched the clouds go by. This is so confusing. I need something to think of other than Nina. Sheesh. I mean, it’s not like she’s my girlfriend or anything. At this thought, he began blushing. What the- I’m blushing! I shouldn’t be blushing! He looked towards Nina again and quickly took his attention away from her. I can’t look at her. I mustn’t look at her.

                                      “Hey, dog boy, what’s up?” a voice asked.

                                      Inukai looked underneath the tree to see it was Nina. He began blushing and looked away. “Nothing’s up. You know, except the sky and all.”

                                      Nina began climbing up the tree. She was on the branch beneath Inukai’s when she spoke again, “What are you doing?”

                                      Inukai was about to reply when he found himself face to face with Nina. “I-I-I…” He trailed off as he felt himself begin to blush again as well as feel his heart begin to beat fast and hard. He gulped.

                                      Nina looked at him puzzled then saw that he was sweating. “What is it? Are you getting sick?”

                                      “Ni-Nina, don-don’t you think this is a little… close?” Inukai asked.

                                      Nina continued looking at him puzzled when she found how close their faces were to each other. She jumped back and had her back against the trunk as she felt her heart begin to beat wildly. She put a hand to her heart waiting for it to calm down while she tried to calm herself down. She felt the Shikon Jewel begin to glow as it spread its warmth through her body.

                                      Inukai felt his blush disappear as he watched Nina. She looks so… beautiful. What the…?! Where did that come from?! She’s not beautiful! She’s down right hideous and annoying. Stupid girl, getting all up in my face ‘cause she’s so nosy and stuff. Sheesh. I SO do not like her like that!

                                      Nina felt her heart calm, blush disappear, and warmth disappear as the jewel stopped glowing. She watched Inukai in puzzlement again as she saw him look away from her in his usual Inuyasha pose. “What’s wrong?”

                                      Inukai grunted. “Nothing.”

                                      “If you two are done, I do believe Inuyasha wishes to see all of us,” a voice said.

                                      The two looked down from the tree to see Miroku.

                                      “Umm, right,” Nina said as she began climbing down the tree.

                                      Inukai jumped down landing on his feet. He looked up at Nina. “Feh. Can’t you just jump down? You are half dog demon after all. If I can do it, so can you.”

                                      Nina glared at him. “Well, I don’t have much experience with it, so there. I’m not jumping down.”

                                      “Heh, weakling,” Inukai said.

                                      Nina shot him another glare. “I am not a weakling.”

                                      “You are, too,” Inukai said.

                                      “Am not,” Nina said.

                                      “Too.”

                                      “Not.”

                                      “Too!”

                                      “Not!”

                                      “TOO!”

                                      “NOT!”

                                      “You are, too.”

                                      Nina shot him another glare. “Fine. I’ll prove it to you. I’ll jump off right now.”

                                      Inukai smirked. “Fine. Go ahead. Hope you don’t break a leg.”

                                      Nina shot him one last glare before looking away from him. Okay. Well, here goes nothing. She jumped off hoping she would land on her feet and not her face. What she got was pain that shot up through her leg as she felt the ground beneath her feet. She sat down and looked down at her right leg.

                                      Inukai ran over to her side. He could tell Nina was in pain and saw a tear go down her cheek. He then ran a hand down her leg to her ankle. He pulled her sock down to see her ankle was swollen, as it was almost completely purple. He ran a finger down her ankle causing Nina to wince in pain.

                                      “Stop it. That hurts,” Nina said.

                                      Inukai growled and looked up at her. “I’m trying to help you.”

                                      “How? By making me feel more pain?” Nina asked.

                                      Inukai growled again and gently put her leg down not wanting to cause her anymore pain. “Fine. I won’t help you if that’s the way you’re going to be.”

                                      “I don’t care,” she muttered. “It’s not like you know what to do anyway.” She took her backpack off her back and grabbed out the first aid kit. She then grabbed out a container and opened it. It looked like some sort of blue gel to Inukai. She then rubbed some of it on her ankle, put it away, grabbed out a roll of cloth (the kind you used when you were hurt), and began wrapping it around her ankle. Once she was done. She put it back in the first aid kit, put the first aid kit back in her backpack, and put the backpack back on her back. She groaned as she used the tree to help herself up.

                                      Inukai grew frustrated by this and put her on his back. “Now you won’t be hurting yourself and making that ankle of yours worse.”

                                      Nina sighed, but smiled knowing Inukai was just trying to help. The two, followed closely by Miroku, went over to Inuyasha.

                                      “This is just great,” Inuyasha said sarcastically. “I was planning on killing Naraku once and for all and you had to go and get Nina hurt.” He then growled.

                                      “Hey! I didn’t make her jump!” Inukai protested.

                                      Kagome and the others watched as the two began to argue.

                                      “Yes, you did,” Inuyasha said. “She’s like Kagome. If you tease her enough, she’ll be stupid enough to do what you said she couldn’t do.”

                                      “Hey!” Kagome cried. “Look who’s talking!”

                                      “At least I’m smart enough not to go off into the forest defenseless!” Inuyasha cried.

                                      “So, it’s my fault Naraku was there?!” Kagome demanded.

                                      “Obviously,” Inukai muttered.

                                      “You take that back!” Kagome said in a threatening voice.

                                      “Make me,” Inukai said smirking.

                                      Kagome was about to hurt Inukai when…

                                      “Will you three stop it!” Nina cried. “This has nothing to do with Naraku or me and it’s my own fault that I’m hurt and not Inukai’s. Got that? Now, all three of you, sit back down.”

                                      Inukai was lying down face down on the ground. Kagome and the others looked at him puzzled.

                                      “Inukai, what are you doing?” Nina asked.

                                      Inukai sat up as he glared at Nina. “Don’t you ever say that word again.”

                                      “What word?” Nina asked blankly.

                                      “Sit,” Inukai said.

                                      “Why?” Nina asked.

                                      He sighed and pulled out a rosary that had been around his neck, but was hidden in his shirt. “Because of this.”

                                      “That looks sort of like Inuyasha’s,” Nina said. “You know, except for the fact that it’s red.”

                                      Inukai growled. “You see, an old hag put it around my neck seven years ago. She said that there would be… a person who would be able to say the word ‘sit’ and I would, well, you know, fall to my face. This would keep me from attacking her. The hag said that it was fate that would enable me to attack her even if she was my friend.” He frowned as he looked towards the distance. “But I would never do that. I don’t attack my own friends and all she was doing was making up a bunch of rubbish.”

                                      “Maybe,” Nina said softly. She shook her head. He wouldn’t. I know he wouldn’t. But how cruel! Doing that to him! It’s one thing if it was Inuyasha because he was trying to kill Kagome, but Inukai hasn’t tried attacking me at all. All he’s been doing is annoying me. She let out a low growl. That was down right mean! She sighed and tugged on Inukai’s sleeve.

                                      “What?” Inukai asked looking down at her.

                                      “Can you take me to the well?” Nina asked. “I think I should stay home until my ankle feels better.”

                                      Inukai sighed and nodded.
