Chapter Thirteen

Standing in front of Nina was a boy who looked no older than her, but had a resemblance to Hiten. Instead of black hair, he had green hair and it was tied back in a lose ponytail. Instead of red eyes, he had blue. Instead of wearing orange, he wore blue. The only thing that seemed the same between the two was their looks, choice of weapon, and the fact that they both like picking on children as the boy in front of her was holding a little boy by what looked like a fluffy white cat tail.

The little boy had long white hair that reached his shoulders and blue eyes. He wore a white shirt that was similar to the one Shippo wore when he was a child, blue pants that were designed like Inuyasha’s, and had little cat white cat feet. He appeared to be no taller than Shippo when he was still a child.

The little boy snarled at the older one. “Let me go, murderer.”

The older boy was about to punch him, when Nina interrupted him.

“Um, excuse me, but just what do you think you’re doing to that poor little boy?” Nina asked holding up a threatening finger.

The older boy looked down at the little boy then back up at Nina. “You obviously haven’t heard of me. The names Geten and I am the Thunder Brother’s cousin. I am just here to take care of some unfinished business with this whelp. Now, I suggest you leave if you don’t want to get hurt, wench.”

Nina then realized that boy hadn’t cried out in fear because of her, but because of Geten. She felt her anger rise up within her, but didn’t show it as she didn’t want Inukai calling her a puppy again. She did, however, shoot a cold look at Geten. “You creep, let him go. I’m sure he never did anything to you.”

The younger boy looked at her with wonder. Never had he met anyone who would stand up against Geten, especially a human (he, of course, couldn’t tell that Nina was much more than just a human.)

Nina felt the Shikon no Tama’s heat as it began glowing again. She wouldn’t allow the older boy to pick on people not even half his size.

Geten saw the jewel glowing and he was felt with a new greed. The greed for power. He looked at Nina’s face. “I shall give you this whelp if you give me the Jewel of Four Souls.”

Nina looked towards him with puzzlement then noticed that the jewel was glowing. She quickly covered it with her hand and looked towards the younger boy. A feeling called to her. Telling her not to leave the boy behind. That he was very lonely and in need of a family.

The boy looked towards her as hope and fear filled his eyes. Hope in having leaving his worse nightmare and fear in having his worse nightmare have the Shikon Jewel giving him even more power than he already had.

Nina suddenly had an idea and looked towards Geten. She smirked. “Before I do, there’s something you had better know.”

Geten raised an eyebrow. “Oh. And what is that?”

The Shikon Jewel began glowing brightly. Nina felt the power surge through her arm as it went down to her fingertips. Her claws appeared and she began charging after Geten. “That you shouldn’t…”

The little boy watched Nina approach him and Geten in fear. Geten smirked until he saw the pink light on her claws and came to a realization.

“Miss with me!” Nina cried as she swiped her claws across Geten’s face. The pink light flowed from her hands and into the wound her claws had given Geten.

Geten felt his skin burn as he dropped the younger boy out of surprise and fear.

Nina felt the power leave her body and saw the young boy falling towards the ground. She quickly ran over to him at a speed she never knew she had and caught the boy in time before he hit the ground.

Geten wiped the blood away from his cheek as looked towards Nina and the little boy.

“Are you okay?” Nina asked in a kind voice.

The little boy felt his fear leave him as he looked into Nina’s concerned eyes. “Y-yeah. I’m okay.”

“So, you’re a half dog demon priestess,” Geten said. He smirked. “I never knew that half breeds could be such things. You’ve betrayed your very own blood by becoming a priestess.”

Nina held the little boy in her arms as she turned to face the older one. “No, I didn’t. I was born this way and I consider it a blessing as I can protect my loved ones from wicked demons, such as yourself, and humans with dark hearts, but I will purify them as I will this sacred jewel which shall not go to any with hearts such as your own.”

Geten growled at her and grabbed his spear ready to kill her. “I will not Be DENIED!” He charged after Nina.

Nina let out a yelp of surprise and quickly threw the younger boy into the bushes. “Get away from here before you get caught again! I’ll distract this jerk.”

The younger boy nodded and ran off.

Inuyasha let out a sigh as he breathed in the scent of the rain. “I haven’t seen Nina since-since that mutt went into her room. I wonder where she went. I hope she’s safe.” He heard banging on the door. He grunted and got up. He then heard yelling that oddly sounded like little Shippo’s voice. He looked at the door in puzzlement and shook his head knowing that Shippo was in his room and most likely wouldn’t turn into his little form. He then opened the door and growled when he saw no one there. He then closed the door and heard someone yelling. He opened the door again and still saw no one. “Is there anyone here?” He continued looking around in puzzlement that was soon turning into annoyance.

“Down here, idiot,” a Shippo sound alike voice said.

Inuyasha growled and looked down to see the voice belonged to the boy that had been saved by Nina. “What did you call me?!”

“She’s in trouble!” the little boy cried ignoring Inuyasha.

Inuyasha grunted. As if he cared if a friend of the little boy’s was in trouble. Well, that is until he caught a familiar scent on the boy. He snarled and picked up the boy by the collar of his shirt. “What were you doing with Nina?!”

The boy now looked at Inuyasha in fear. “N-Nina? I-I didn’t kn-know th-that was h-her name.” He then regained his courage as he saw a look of worry reach Inuyasha’s face. “She has the Shikon Jewel. That’s all I know and Genten wants it.”

Inuyasha’s face faltered, as he now knew that the girl who was in trouble was truly Nina. She’s in danger? He snarled again. “Who’s Genten? Where is he? I’ll tear him to shreds if he even laid a finger on Nina.”

The little boy let out a sigh of relief, as he now knew that he had come to the right person for help. “I’ll explain everything on the way.”

Nina dodged Genten’s attack again, but fell down as tripped over a tree root. She saw Genten coming at her again and searched the ground for any weapon that could be of help. Genten went on for the kill. Nina’s hand wrapped around the first thing her hand touched and she quickly put it in front of her to block Genten’s spear. It turned out to be a stick. Nina closed her eyes getting ready to feel the pain that would lead her to her ultimate death, but it never came. Instead she felt a comforting warmth against her heart and heard a voice whisper softly into her ear.

Fear not, for I shall always be by your side to protect you. Fight the darkness and do not let it overcome you. Fight for your loved ones. Your friends, family, everyone, including yourself.

Nina then felt what felt like a hand caressing her cheek.

                                      Remember my words.

The voice then disappeared, but the warmth hadn’t. Nina opened her eyes to see that the stick had turned into a sword. Her eyes widened. Genten’s had, as well.

“Wha-what are you that you can do such things?” Genten asked in disbelief.

Nina was clearly as confused as him. Just how am I able to do these things? And what’s with the voice?

Genten jumped back and put his spear away as he got ready to do an attack.

Nina snapped back into reality and stood up. She then pointed the sword at Genten. “Well, it looks like I’m not totally defenseless now.”

Genten smirked. “At the moment, you are correct, but soon you shall not.” He put his hands up in the air.

Nina watched in wonder at what Genten was about to do.

Lightning shot out from the clouds and hit Genten. Genten smiled. “Yes! Yes! Let me feel the power of the heavens!” He began laughing in a way that made the hair on Nina’s neck rise. “Now you shall my true power.” He brought his hands down, drew them to his right side, and made them go back in a way that oddly reminded Nina of Goku doing a Kamehameha wave. The lightning energy glowed brightly in Genten’s hands. “You ready?”

Nina sighed and spoke trying her best to not be arrogant, “You should probably not use lightning and try something else. I mean, lightning is so not the fashion these days.” Nina frowned at her words. Fashion? I doubt they even know about that. Some of the people here don’t even have a good fashion sense. She sighed and looked towards Genten waiting for his response.

“Heh, you can talk all fancy, but you’ll soon die anyway,” Genten said.

Ah-ha! I knew it! They don’t know about fashion, Nina thought.

Genten only smirked and shot out his lightning energy ball.

Nina found no way to avoid it and looked around for someway to avoid it, but still couldn’t find anyway to do so. She closed her eyes waiting for the pain. Once again, it never came. She felt something lift her off her feet and jump. She then heard a blast followed by a crash.

“Open your eyes, will ya,” a familiar voice said.

Nina slowly opened her eyes to see Inukai’s face.

He smirked. “You really are a puppy.”

Nina growled and hit Inukai in the chest. “You care to repeat that?”

Inukai grumbled something underneath his breath that Nina couldn’t quite catch, but she swore she heard him mention her name. He let her down and Nina saw that he was the one who had saved her and had been carrying her bridal style. She then looked towards where she had been standing minutes ago and knew that the blast had come from Genten’s attack and the crash had come from a tree that had fallen down from Genten’s attack.

                                      “Where’s Inuyasha?” Nina asked.

“He’s over there,” Inukai said pointing his finger towards a tree. “But don’t-“ He saw Nina turn her head to look in Inuyasha’s direction. “Hey!” He quickly cupped her chin and gently turned it so that he could look into her eyes as well as to keep her from looking in Inuyasha’s direction. “Don’t look over there or Genten will know.”

Nina looked into Inukai’s eyes and nodded somewhat dazed. She then shook her head as she snapped back into reality. “What about the little boy? Is he okay? Tell me he’s okay.”

Inukai saw the concern in her eyes and grunted. “He’s fine. He’s just very annoying and I’m sure Inuyasha and I would’ve killed him for his annoyance if it weren’t for the fact that he knew where you were at.”

“You had better not laid a finger on him,” Nina said as anger began to fill her.

“Don’t worry. I haven’t nor has Inuyasha,” Inukai said.

“Are Sango and the others here, too?” Nina asked.

“No,” Inukai said. “They don’t even know we’re gone.”

“Oh. Well, that’s good, I guess,” Nina said. “It’s better than them being worried about us.”

                                      “No, it’s not,” Inukai muttered.

Nina gave him a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”

Inukai didn’t respond and looked away from her face suddenly finding the trees very interesting.

Nina then realized what he meant. “I’m-“

“Well, well, well, it looks like the half breed has a friend after all,” a voice said.

Nina and Inukai turned around to see Genten smirking.

Inukai put Nina behind him. “So, you’re the bastard who decided you could do whatever you want by picking on kids and attacking poor defenseless girls just for a jewel. Well, I’m Inukai and I’m here to take your life.”

“We’ll see,” Genten said. He went into a ninja like pose holding his spear to his side and holding his other hand in front of him.

Inukai smirked and unsheathed his sword.

Nina looked at him puzzled then realized he was wearing different clothes.

Inukai now wore an orange shirt that was just like Inuyasha’s, orange pants that were just like his, wore the same colored rosary around his neck, and was now barefoot. He also wore a black sheath at his left side.

Nina then gasped as she saw Inukai’s sword transform just like the Tessaiga and saw it looked just like the one Naraku had used against Inuyasha in their last encounter.

Genten signaled for Inukai to come over to him. Inukai smirked and charged after him.

Inuyasha watched the battle between Inukai and Genten begin. “That idiot.”
The little boy, who was sitting next to Inuyasha, looked up at him. “You two act and look alike to me.”

Inuyasha glared at the boy and was about to hit him when he remembered that now wasn’t the time or place to do so. “Shut up or Genten might hear you and I’m not going to go and rescue you.”

The boy humphed and pouted closing his eyes. “Nina will save me.”

Inuyasha growled. “No, she won’t ‘cause I won’t let her.”

“She’s a priestess and she’ll use her powers to make you let her,” the boy said.

Inuyasha’s eyebrow began twitching as anger began to course through his veins. He’s only a kid. Kids like to annoy people. Let him go or Nina will tell Kagome.

Inukai held his sword up. Genten held his spear up to block Inukai’s attack. Inukai brought his sword down. The sword and spear clashed. The two demons leaned against their weapons using all their strength to push against the other weapon hoping the other would give in and fall down so they could kill them. Genten then smirked and kicked Inukai in the stomach. Inukai groaned. Genten then punched him in the jaw followed by a kick causing him to fly into a tree.

“Inukai!” Nina cried. She was about to look to Inuyasha for help, but stopped herself from doing so. Her face filled with determination. I’ll help Inukai. If I ask for Inuyasha’s help, Inukai will just call me a puppy again. She held her sword in front of her. I will not tolerate to be called such a thing. She began charging towards Genten.

Genten smirked as he saw Inukai struggle to get up. “So, this is the power of the half breed, Inukai. I expected so much more.”

Inukai stood up as he heard his ribs crack. He began wheezing. “You… won’t… defeat me. I won’t… allow it.” He was about to charge at Genten when he heard him cry out in pain. Inukai looked towards Genten and saw Nina behind him stabbing him in the stomach with her sword.

“Leave Inukai alone,” Nina said as anger and hate filled her eyes. “As well as my friends, innocent children, and everyone else, rather they’re armed or not.”

Genten looked towards her and saw the Shikon Jewel begin to glow.

Nina heard a voice. This time it wasn’t a comforting voice at all, but a sinister one that spoke in hisses.

Yessss. Let your hate consssssssume you. Make him feel the treachery he made otherssssssss feel. Join the darknessssssss.

Nina felt the hate and anger rise within her. Her eyes turned cold as they changed to the color of blood red and the pupils turned to the color purple. Two white stripe marks made their way across her cheeks. Her claws grew longer than they would usually be. Her fangs began to look more demonic than human. She then spoke in an evil rough voice, “Now, you will die!”

Inukai’s eyes widened as took in the view of the new Nina. He sniffed the air as his face filled with disgust. He no longer smelled the usual sweet, kind, gentle scent he would that was usually upon the girl. Instead, he smelled a scent that was filled with hate, anger, and a craving for the sight of blood and death. Though, despite the new scent, he could barely pick up the same French vanilla scent he had smelled on the girl earlier.

Genten looked towards Nina with wide fearful eyes. “Wh-what are you?”

“I am your death,” Nina said. She brought up one of her claws and went in for the kill.

The little boy whimpered as he grabbed onto the sleeve of Inuyasha’s shirt.

Inuyasha looked down at Nina as she transformed. “Damn. She’s full demon.” He reached for Tessaiga. “Kid, get out of here.”

                                      The little boy continued whimpering.

“I said get out of here!” Inuyasha said in a commanding voice.

The boy looked up at him with tearful eyes and slowly nodded. He then ran off.

Good. No little good-for-nothing kid in my way, Inuyasha thought. Now, I won’t have any distractions and can turn Nina back to normal.

Nina struck Genten. Genten cried out in pain. Nina then took her hand out of his chest. Genten fell to the ground.

“You… monster,” Genten said before he died.

Nina smirked and shook her hand trying to get rid of the blood on her hand. “That’s right. I’m a monster.”

“No, you’re not, Nina,” a voice said.

Nina turned around to see Inukai. His eyes were filled with concern.

“You’re a kind, gentle, sweet, innocent, loving, helpful girl,” Inukai said. He wanted to roll his eyes and say feh to what he just said, but prevented himself from doing so knowing that Nina would think he was lying. Even though he wasn’t lying. What he just told her was the truth. She was kind, gentle, sweet, innocent, loving, and helpful. Which was what gave her her nice scent.

Nina rolled her eyes. She then held out a clawed hand and signaled for him to come over to her. “Come here and let me show just how kind, gentle, sweet, innocent, loving, and helpful I can be.”

Inukai wanted to accept this Nina’s challenge and kill her. He wanted the Nina he knew to come back. This new one gave him the creeps and scared him. “N-Nina, i-it’s me. Inukai. Don’t you remember me?”

Nina smirked. “Of course I do. Why wouldn’t I? You’re the one who calls me a puppy.” She licked the blood on her hand. “So much for puppy, huh?”

Inukai winced at the harshness and coldness in her voice. “N-Nina, I n-never meant any of it.”

Nina gave him a cold smile. “No. You were right when you called me one. Now I no longer am a puppy, but a full grown dog.”

“No, Nina!” Inukai cried taking hold of her hand in his. “You were never a puppy to begin with! I was lying to you the whole time just to get on your nerves! I’m your friend and I would never mean to hurt you!”

Nina looked into his eyes and he swore he saw a trace of the same eyes that belonged to the Nina he once knew. At first, they had seemed surprised then they had turned to ones of gentleness and understanding. A tear went down her cheek.

“I-I’m s-sorry,” Nina said in a tearful voice.

Inukai’s expression softened and he put a hand to her face. He then wiped the tear away from her face and said in a soft voice, “It’s okay, Nina. I’m sure you never meant it.”

Nina’s eyes turned back to their usual hazel brown color as the white marks disappeared, nails turned back to their usual human look, fangs turned back to normal, and, of course, her scent turned back to its usual kind, sweet, gentle scent.

                                      “Y-you forgive me?” Nina asked.

Inukai hugged her and whispered into her ear. “Of course I forgive you.”

Nina wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head against his chest as she began to cry. Inukai began to stroke her hair and put his head on top of hers.

“Shh, it’s okay. I know,” Inukai said comforting the young girl.

The two then heard a growl and turned around to see a fuming Inuyasha. Inukai and Nina exchanged glances and quickly parted as they began to blush. Nina looked down at the ground. Inukai was in his usual Inuyasha pose.

“If I ever see you touch Nina again, I’ll kill you,” Inuyasha said bringing one of his claws in front of his face.

Nina looked at Inuyasha hoping her blush had finally disappeared. “He was just helping me, Inuyasha. You saw me, I was a-a-a m-m-m-m…” She didn’t continue as she felt tears fill her eyes.

Inuyasha grunted. “Whatever. Let’s go.” He turned and began going back towards the village.

Inukai was going to join him when he felt someone grab onto his wrist. He turned around to see Nina. “Wha-“

“Inukai, thank you for turning me back to normal and for saving me,” Nina said.

                                      Inukai grunted. “Feh.”

Nina let out a sigh and looked off towards the distance.

Inukai looked towards her. “You’re welcome.”
