Chapter Two
Nina knocked on the door. She and Inuyasha were now at her house. “Now, remember, no cussing or fighting. Got that?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know,” Inuyasha said.
Just then the door opened. Standing there was a woman who was slightly shorter than Nina. She had light brown hair with some silver at the top of her hair and her hair at the bottom was red. She had brown eyes and wore glasses. She wore a short sleeve black shirt with a turtle neck, blue jeans, brown shoes, and had her hair in a lose ponytail.
“Hey, Mom,” Nina said. “This is my friend, Inuyasha. Inuyasha, Mom. Mom, Inuyasha.” As she said this she pointed to the two so they would know who Inuyasha and Mom were.
Nina’s mother smiled.
Inuyasha looked down at the ground a bit embarrassed.
Nina walked into the house and turned around to see Inuyasha not following her. She put her hands on her hips. “Inuyasha, what are you waiting for?”
Inuyasha looked at Nina puzzled.
Nina sighed, went over to Inuyasha, and took his hand. “You can come in, you know. Come on. We’re going to my room.” She took her hand away from his and led the way.
Inuyasha looked down at his hand. He had been blushing the whole time when Nina had been holding his hand. The girl hadn’t even noticed. He followed the girl as his blush faded. As he turned around a corner, Aries came running to him.
“Are you really Inuyasha?” Aries asked.
“Of course I’m Inuyasha. Who else would I be?” Inuyasha said.
“Someone wearing an Inuyasha costume, duh,” Aries said.
“Yeah, well, I’m the real thing,” Inuyasha said.
“Aries, leave Inuyasha alone,” Nina said with her hands on her hips.
“Make me,” Aries said.
Nina growled in frustration. She then went over to Inuyasha, grabbed his hand, and dragged him to her room. She then closed the door and let out a sigh. “My brother is such a brat.” She went over to her bed and sat down. She looked towards Inuyasha and noticed him still standing. “You can sit with me if you want.”
Inuyasha leaned against the wall, closed his eyes, and crossed his arms. “That’s okay. I’m comfortable just like this.”
“Okay,” Nina said. “Um, I’m really sorry about what happened to Kagome. I know you really loved her a lot and still do.” Tears went down her cheeks. “She’s the second girl you’ve loved to die.”
Inuyasha opened his eyes. “Nina, don’t cry. It’s not your fault and you shouldn’t be sorry. You didn’t do anything.”
Nina wiped her tears away. “Yeah, you’re right. It’s just, you and Kagome were supposed to be together. You guys were the perfect couple.” She sighed. “Naraku must’ve done something to change the real future. You guys weren’t suppose to depart. You guys were suppose to be together forever.”
“Nina…” His eyes softened. “I already told you, don’t be sorry. It’s not your fault. You weren’t even there.”
Nina looked up at him and giggled.
“What? What’s so funny?” Inuyasha asked.
“You,” Nina said stopping herself from giggling.
“What? How?” Inuyasha asked.
“Well, you can be an inconsiderate, insensitive, quick to anger, easily jealous, bratty, jerk, but that’s only to cover up the true you,” Nina said.
“Hey!” Inuyasha practically yelled.
“But on the inside you’re sweet, kind, considerate, sensitive,” Nina said. “You don’t show it because you don’t want other demons or even humans thinking you’re weak, but I don’t think you’re weak. I think you’re very strong.”
Inuyasha slightly blushed and looked away. “Feh! Think what you want, girl.”
Nina looked up at her ceiling to see a spider going towards Inuyasha. “Um, there’s a spider above your head.”
Inuyasha looked up to see the spider. He snatched it and squished it.
“Eeewww, gross,” Nina said. “You didn’t have to squish it, you know. You could’ve flushed it down the toilet.”
“Huh? Uh, well, where’s the bathroom?” Inuyasha asked.
“Inuyasha, it’s next to my room,” Nina said pointing to the door.
Inuyasha smiled sheepishly. “Oh, must’ve missed it.” He left the room angry with himself for not seeing the bathroom.
Nina sighed, got up, and went over to the bookshelf. She grabbed her Inuyasha manga. It was number eight. She turned to the last page and giggled.
Inuyasha came back into her room looking puzzled. “Now what’s funny?”
Nina smiled. “This.” She showed him the page.
Inuyasha looked away. “I never got her back for falling asleep like that. Sheesh, I was saying very important stuff and she had to go and sleep.”
Nina’s smile widened. “Yeah, but I bet you’re glad she wasn’t awake when you finished. I mean, she would immediately think you liked liked her.”
Inuyasha blushed again. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
Nina sat back down on her bed. “Listen, I’ve been thinking about something. I’ve been having a lot of dreams with you and the others lately. I thought it was because I was obsessed with the TV show, but now I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Not ever since you told me the dream I’ve been having with you holding Kagome in your arms because she was dying was all true.”
“Yeah, go on,” Inuyasha said.
“Well, I’ve been calling all spiders Naraku’s minions and all moths as Menomaru’s minions,” Nina said.
“Well, you’re half way correct except the moths aren’t Menomaru’s minions. They’re his son’s minions,” Inuyasha said.
“His son’s?” Nina asked. “Menomaru had a son?”
“Yeah. Right before he died he had one,” Inuyasha said. “I found out a year after Kagome’s death.”
“Who’s his mother?” Nina asked.
“Hari, I think,” Inuyasha said.
“She’s the one with light hair, right?” Nina asked.
“Yeah,” Inuyasha said. “Anyway, Menomaru’s son is out for revenge. He’s after the Shikon Jewel and wants you, as well as me, dead.”
“Me? But why?” Nina asked.
“Because you’re Kagome’s reincarnation,” Inuyasha said.
“Yeah, so? Just because I’m her reincarnation doesn’t mean he has to go and want to kill me!” Nina said.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”
There was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Nina said.
The door opened and Nina’s mom entered the room. “Honey, don’t you think Inuyasha should be going home now? It’s getting late.”
“Huh? Oh, yeah. Of course. Oh, Inuyasha, your mom is going to kill you,” Nina said.
“But Mom is-“
“Yeah, yeah. I know. She’s at work, but what about your dad?!” Nina practically shouted. “Now, come on.” She grabbed his hand while Inuyasha tried protesting. She dragged him out of her room and out the front door. “Well, thanks for visiting. Bye.” She then quickly closed the door and went to her room closing the door. She let out a sigh of relief. “That was way too close for comfort.” She then heard tapping on the window. She looked up to see a very puzzled, angry, Inuyasha. She went over to her window smiling sheepishly and opened it.
Inuyasha climbed through the window. “Now what was that all about?!”
“Sorry,” Nina said. “Um, I just had to do that so Mom wouldn’t get all suspicious. You know, since she doesn’t know you’re the real Inuyasha and all. Besides, she wouldn’t even let me hang around you, let alone go to your era.”
“Yeah, well, if that didn’t get your mom to think something suspicious is going on, then I don’t know what will,” Inuyasha said.
“Whatever,” Nina said. “Well, since you’re here, stay out of sight, got that. I’m going to the living room to call Anna.” She left the room mumbling something about needing a phone in her room.
Inuyasha frowned and went over to the bookshelf. He grabbed one of the Inuyasha magnas. It was the first one. He looked through it and stopped on the page when he first met Kagome. “I was such a jerk and an idiot back then. She never was anything like Kikyo. She was always sweet and gentle. Kikyo was that, too, but she was mysterious, too. You could never guess what she was feeling since she always hid her emotions. Kagome was mysterious, but not at all like that. She always showed her feelings. You could never guess what she was going to feel next. One minute, she would be all happy. The next, she would be all angry. Um, well, that was always my fault, but still.” He sighed, put the book down, went over to the window, and looked out of it.
Nina dialed Anna’s number and waited for Anna or her mother or even her father to answer it.
“Hello?” a voice asked finally answering the phone.
“Hi, can I talk to Anna?” Nina asked.
“Speaking,” the voice said.
“Oh, sorry,” Nina said. “You just sound so much like your mom.”
“Whatever,” Anna said.
“Whatever is my word,” Nina said.
“Fine, person,” Anna said.
“Person is my word, too,” Nina said.
“You can’t have two words,” Anna protested.
“Whatever, Miroku lover,” Nina said grinning.
“Oh, yeah,” Anna said.
“Yeah,” Nina said.
“Interspecies lover.”
“Lecher lover.”
“Inuyasha lover.”
“Oh, yeah. Well, at least he’s not a lecher.”
“Yeah, well, at least he’s a cute lecher.”
“Yeah, well, Inuyasha has cute dog ears!”
“Miroku has cute eyes!”
“What?! Eyes aren’t cute. Anyway, who in their right minds would like Miroku?”
“Sango does.”
“Whatever. Anyway, that’s beyond the point. The point is Inuyasha and I were talking and it turns out that all spiders and moths really are Naraku and Menomaru’s son’s minions.”
“Menomaru has a son?”
“Yeah. Inuyasha found out a year after Kagome’s death. Menomaru’s son’s mother was the one with the light hair.”
“She was?”
“Yeah. And Menomaru’s son is out for revenge. He wants the Shikon Jewel. He wants Inuyasha dead. Anna, he wants me dead!”
Anna gasped. “Wh-why?”
“Because I’m Kagome’s reincarnation.”
“So? Just because you’re her reincarnation doesn’t give him the right to kill you!”
“That’s exactly what I said.” She let out a sigh. “Do you realize what this means?”
“What?” Anna asked.
“It means that I’m going to have to-“
“Mom! Dad!” a voice cried.
“Huh?” Nina turned around to see nothing, but an empty room. She then saw her mom and dad run towards her brother’s room. She gulped. “Um, Anna, I’ll-I’ll call you back later.” She hung up and slowly walked towards her brother’s room. The door was closed. She opened it and looked on in horror. There was a huge centipede demon holding her parents and Aries. The centipede had a resemblance to Mistress Centipede. She then realized it wasn’t a centipede, but a millipede. And it was a man with long flowing blue hair and had deep dark eyes.
The millipede spotted Nina and smiled. “You have it. Yes?” It slithered over to her.
Nina backed up in fear. She gulped. “Have-have what?”
“The Shikon Jewel,” the millipede said.
“Wh-what? I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Nina said.
“Yes, you do,” the demon said.
“No, I don’t,” Nina protested.
“You have it!” The millipede lunged at her.
Nina screamed and ran out of her brother’s room and into her room. She quickly shut her door panting.
Inuyasha looked towards her surprised. “What’s going on?”
“Um, well, you see-“
The door then crashed down. Nina quickly ran out of the way, but tripped and fell down. Nina looked up to see the demon. She watched in fear. Inuyasha grabbed out Tessaiga.
“So, Master Millipede comes for the jewel this time, eh,” Inuyasha said. He smirked.
“The jewel. I must have the jewel,” Master Millipede said.
“I-I don’t have it. Leave me alone!” Nina said.
“Yeah,” Inuyasha said.
The millipede squash Inuyasha against the wall with its legs. Inuyasha tried getting free. It then went after Nina.
“Eeekkk, get away from me!” Nina screamed putting her hands in front of her. An energy blast shot out of them. The millipede grabbed her arm angrily.
“You wretched child,” Master Millipede said.
Nina stared up at the millipede in fear. She looked towards Inuyasha who was still trying to get free. She then looked down to see the millipede sinking into her floor. It was dragging her and Inuyasha with it. Blue light surrounded them. Nina started kicking at it. “Let me go!”
Master Millipede grabbed her other arm with its free arms and drew her close to it. “Yes, you have it. I feel my strength returning.” It stuck out its tongue and licked her face.
“Eeewww, gross! Let me go!” Nina practically shouted.
“The jewel. I must have the jewel,” the millipede said.
“No!” Nina yelled. Purple light surrounded her.
The millipede screamed in pain and let her and Inuyasha go. It fell down. Nina finally felt the ground. She fell to her knees and looked around confused. She and Inuyasha were now in a square shaped room with no door. She looked up to see daylight. She smiled as her eyes brightened up. Inuyasha got up and went over to Nina. He grabbed her arm.
“Come on. Get up,” Inuyasha said.
Nina obeyed him. “Um, how are we going to get out of here?”
“You obviously never paid attention to the TV show,” Inuyasha said. “Get on my back.”
Nina did. Once Inuyasha was sure she was on he jumped out of the hole and landed outside of it. He then let Nina down. Nina looked towards the hole to see it wasn’t a hole, but a well. Her eyes widened. It was the well Kagome used to get to her era and back to Inuyasha’s.
“This really isn’t a dream,” Nina said.
“Come on. Let’s go to Kaede’s hut,” Inuyasha said.
Nina looked up at him and nodded.
Inuyasha began walking towards the village leading the way. Nina looked around at the forest. The two then passed the Go-Shinboku Tree. Nina stopped and looked towards the tree.
This was the spot where Kikyo supposedly betrayed Inuyasha. This was also the spot where he and Kagome met. Nina then heard footsteps. She turned around to see Kagome. Kagome stopped and looked around confused. There was then rustling in the bushes. Nina and Kagome then turned around. Naraku came out of the bushes.
Kagome screamed and backed up in fear. “Inuyasha!” She turned around to run, but tripped. Naraku jumped at her. She screamed again. Naraku smiled with malice and began choking her.
Nina watched in horror. She was frozen in fear.
Kagome then passed out.
Nina then heard some more footsteps. She turned around to see Inuyasha arrive. He stopped in his tracks. Horror and surprise was written across his face. He then shook his head and unsheathed Tessaiga. “Get your bloody hands off her!”
Naraku looked at Inuyasha and smiled all the more evilly. “You would love for me to do that, now wouldn’t you, Inuyasha.” His smile widened. “But you will not have your way.” Naraku stabbed Kagome in the stomach with his own hand. Kagome woke up and cried out in pain.
Inuyasha’s grip on his sword tightened.
Nina gasped.
Kagome looked towards Inuyasha sadly. “Inu… yasha.”
Inuyasha charged after Naraku. “I have had enough of you! Die!” He jumped up and positioned his sword getting ready to go in for the kill.
Naraku quickly jumped out of the way and used his miasma to surround Inuyasha. After it cleared, Naraku was no longer there.
Inuyasha growled and sheathed Tessaiga. He then turned to Kagome, kneeled down beside her, and hugged her holding her head close to his heart.
Nina watched sadly.
“Inu... yasha,” Kagome softly said.
A tear went down Inuyasha’s cheek. “Shh, Kagome. You’ll only use up your strength talking to me.”
“But… I won’t live,” Kagome said as the tears began going down her face.
“No, you won’t,” Inuyasha said pulling her closer to him and began sobbing.
Nina felt a tear go down her cheek.
“Inuyasha… before I go… I want to tell you… to burn the Shikon Jewel… with my remains,” Kagome said.
Inuyasha nodded and kissed her on the forehead. “I’ll make sure that happens.”
Nina choked back a sob.
“Nina,” a voice said. “Nina.”
Nina heard the voice, but couldn’t see who it was coming from. She continued watching the scene.
“I’ll come back to you. I promise,” Kagome said and died.
Inuyasha held her tighter and whispered in her ear, “And I’ll find you and protect you forever. I promise.”
The scene began to fade and Nina was soon looking at someone’s face. She yelped and backed up until she realized it was Inuyasha.
Inuyasha looked at her confused. “What?”
Nina remembered the scene and fell to her knees. She put her hands over her face and began crying.
Inuyasha was even more confused by this and went over to her. He then kneeled down beside her. He placed his hand on her shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
Nina looked up at him after putting her hands in her lap. “I-I saw the whole thing.”
“Whole thing? What whole thing?” Inuyasha asked.
“The whole thing with you and Kagome,” Nina said.
Inuyasha blushed brilliantly. “What?! How? When? Why? I can explain. You see-“
“Naraku killed her. I saw it with my own eyes. I’m sorry,” Nina said.
Inuyasha calmed down. “Oh, you meant that. Okay. I’m okay now.”
Nina gave him a puzzled look. “What did you think I meant?”
Inuyasha’s face practically turned red. “Well, uh, you see, um, Kagome and I, we, um, well-“
Nina looked at him with a confused look on her face. “Huh? Wait a sec.” She crossed her arms and gave him a look. “You have a dirtier mind than I thought.”
“Huh? Hey! You’re the one who had to go and say you saw the whole thing with me and Kagome!” Inuyasha said angrily.
“Ah-ha! I knew it! You were having dirty thoughts!” Nina said pointing a finger at him.
“Well, I don’t see why you would be crying if you saw me and Kagome anyway. I mean, it’s not like you haven’t seen it before,” Inuyasha said crossing his arms.
Nina started blushing and looked down at the ground. “Can-can we go see Kaede, now?”
Inuyasha grunted. “Fine.”
Soon, the two reached the outside of the forest. Inuyasha sniffed the air and quickly covered his nose and mouth.
Nina looked up at him. “What is it?”
“It smells like smoke only much more stronger,” Inuyasha said.
“Huh?” Nina sniffed the air and quickly covered her nose and mouth. “It smells really bad.”
“Do you see that?” Inuyasha asked.
Nina followed his gaze and saw white clouds of smoke. “Why is there smoke?”
“I don’t know,” Inuyasha said.
“Let’s hurry and get to Kaede’s village,” Nina said.
Inuyasha nodded and grabbed her hand. He then ran towards the village holding Nina’s hand. He then stopped once he spotted it. Nina, who hadn’t seen this coming, bumped into Inuyasha.
“Hey! Do you mind?!” Nina said angrily.
Inuyasha ignored her and looked towards the village that was no longer a village, but a town. There were wooden posts all around it. A huge wooden gate stood in front. Two guards stood there. There was also a moat around the wooden posts. At the top stood two guards.
Nina looked towards the town. Her eyes widened. “Where’s the village? Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha’s fists clenched as his teeth gritted. “I don’t know.”
Nina frowned and went over to the two. “Hey. Did you guys know an elder priestess named Kaede?”
The guards unsheathed their swords and pointed them at her.
“Who are you?” one guard asked.
“And what do you want?” another asked.
“Uh,” Nina said.
Inuyasha went over to her side. He was about to talk, when the guards sheathed their swords.
They bowed. “We are sorry, Lord Inuyasha. We weren’t aware that you had a new human companion. Will you being seeing our lord?”
Nina looked at the guards confused.
“Yeah, yeah. Sure. I’ll see the lord,” Inuyasha said.
“Should we take your companion with us?” one guard asked.
“Yeah, I guess,” Inuyasha said.
