Two words describe Touma best - "Pure Genius." At the young age of 14, he is already a University graduate, and because of his brilliance, Captain Satsuma often relies on him to fix their equipment when it's not working (caused mostly by Masaru).

Until he was about five, Touma lived with his mother in Japan. Sadly, she was hit and killed by a reckless truck driver as they were heading to a Summer festival. After her death, Touma went to live with his aristocrat father in Austria, but he was not willingly accepted as a Norstein...especially by his eccentric Grandmother. The one Norstein who loved him unconditionally was his little sister Relena. She, however, suffers from a deadly disease. Touma strives to one day find a cure to save her.

As a DATS member, Touma had difficulty getting along with Masaru in the beginning. He found Masaru to be childish and impulsive. Later, however, Touma realized that Masaru does use his head when necessary. Unlike Masaru, Touma likes everything precise and logical. He and Gaomon's fighting style is normally strategically planned moves sometimes labeled as plan A1 or B2. No matter what the fighting style, maintaining a peaceful existence is what they hope to accomplish.
