Chaos Lives

Chapter 1: New Beginnings

Kevin sat in front of his computer, staring intently at the blueprints on his screen. They were of his Dark Spiner, and something he was developing for it. He had spent the last few weeks stripping his zoid of all it’s modifications just so he could make this part work. Sure, his Spiner couldn’t compete with Zephyr’s Breaker anymore, but it’d be able to again soon.

Kevin was about to reach for the mouse so he could look at another part of what he was working on, but a tap on his shoulder and the clearing of his wife’s throat stopped him. Kevin spun around to face her. Leena stood in front of him, looking a might bit angry.

“Uh, hi?” Kevin said, tentatively.

“Are you gonna do anything other than work on this project of yours? It’s taken you longer to do this than it has for me to get the boosters on the Nightmare replaced and have my vulcan guns fitted to it.” Leena said with a huff.

“Yeah, I know, but-”

“No buts, you’ve been too focused on this thing. How long has it been since you’ve gotten up?”

Kevin shrugged, put his hands on the arms of his chair, and went to get up. His face immediately contorted into a look of pain as his knees cracked and his legs froze up.

“I think it’s been a bit too long.” Kevin said, a small sweat drop appearing. Leena sighed.

“Come on, you need to shower and shave, everyone’s been wanting to talk to you.” Leena said as she grabbed onto one of Kevin’s arms and jerked him into an upright position. She ignored the look of pain on his face as she dragged him to their bathroom. She sat on the edge of the tub as she watched Kevin shave off the weeks worth of stubble that had grown in. She had to admit though, he didn’t look that bad with a beard.

“Leave the goatee.” she said with a smirk. Kevin raised an eyebrow for a moment, shrugged, and shaved off everything but the hair on his chin.

Leena started to yawn, and was promptly hit in the face with Kevin’s shirt.

“And you say I’ve been sitting around too much?”

“Hey, at least I was in the battle the other day.”

Kevin blinked a few times. “We had a battle?”

“Yes, we did. You would’ve known if you hadn’t been so focused on that part of yours.”

“Er, who won?” Kevin asked, not wanting to talk about his project.

“We did, of course.” Leena said with a grin. She tossed Kevin’s shirt aside as he stepped into the shower. Leena put her hands out on either side of her, closed her eyes, and made motions as if to weigh something. She grinned and slipped in after Kevin.

Later on, Kevin sat in the Blitz team base living room, staring at the memo the construction team had left him. Having the zoids break down constantly was getting annoying. Kevin sighed.

“I guess this area is just hard to build in...” he said to no one.

Maybe having the training center built on the plateau about a mile from the base was a bad idea. Well, he couldn’t stop the construction now. He just hoped the team of zoid parts makers finished the custom part he wanted by the time they opened up the training center. This fact made Kevin sigh again. Training pilots...maybe he’d just run the place, and not battle people often. He didn’t like dealing with the average zoid pilot, seeing as most of them have seemed to stop believing that zoids really are sentient. Eh well. He’d take things as they came at him.

Meanwhile...

Jamie was in the hanger, standing on the scaffolding next to a very large, white wolf type zoid. It looked remarkably new compared to the rest of the zoids, and another odd thing, Kevin’s old Blade Liger was no where to be seen.

“I wonder why he just didn’t get another Blade Liger...” Jamie said with a sigh. Instead of just taking the old core data from his Liger and throwing it on a new Blade Liger, Kevin had opted to transfer it into the new high-performance Konig Wolf zoid. Thankfully the cooling system had been installed when they got it.

“It’s too bad that Kevin’s Liger got totaled in that fight with one of those new Giga Gojulas. Oh well, at least this Wolf’ll have the same persona as his old Liger.” Jamie said to himself as he worked the controls to mount the Wolf’s new weapons. The Dual Sniper rifle fit snugly onto the back, and the same went for the AZ5-Missile pods on the shoulders. Jamie looked at it and decided the zoid wasn’t that bad. Kinda lacking in the close combat department, but it’s weapons more than made up for that fact. A fully automatic sniper rifle wasn’t anything to laugh at. He shrugged and decided to go get something to eat. He was getting hungry.

Zephyr and Isaac shot glances at each other, then looked at the boy who stood in front of the Rex type zoid. Neither of them knew why the Doc had dragged them along to get this kid and the woman who was either his mother, or just his care taker. The two knew enough about the boy, seeing as they had both worked for the Backdraft for a time, but they didn’t know much about the zoid that stood in front of him. Zephyr had commented to Isaac earlier that the kid’s zoid looked a lot like his own Breaker, the armor even had a reddish tint to it. The kid alone was interesting enough without the zoid around, but when he was around the zoid, well...

“So Fuhrer, what do you think of all this?” The zoid merely let out a growl of annoyance, but didn’t move at all.

“Come on, it won’t be that bad.” The zoid grunted. The boy sighed.

“Give it up Vega, I don’t think the Fuhrer is going to enjoy being around the Zero no matter what.” Isaac said to the boy.

“I guess you’re right.” Vega said, seeming a bit unhappy that the Fuhrer was so unbending.

Zephyr just chuckled to himself. The Fuhrer was reminding him of his Breaker after the war. Eh well. He ran a hand through his snow white hair, his blood red eyes taking one last look at the compartment of the Hovercargo the Berserk Fuhrer, before he turned and left. Zephyr wondered how Kevin was doing on his little project as he walked back to his room.

Back at the base, Kevin had finally completed the plans to his project. He handed the disk containing them to the head of the design team, whom immediately inserted the disk into the computer. The plans and specs popped up on the screen instantly. The man’s eyes lit up like a kid’s at the candy store. Kevin grinned.

“Impressed?”

“Most definitely, this will be a lot of fun to construct for you. Your Spiner will be able to contend with the old zoids of the Empire that are reappearing with no trouble. Not to mention that it’ll out gun today's Geno Saurers since they’re appearing more and more with those high-caliber vulcan guns mounted to them.”

“One of the reasons I designed it the way I did. Being that the Dark Spiner is still very rare, and the ZBC can’t mass produce them yet, like the Empire was able to, this will do nicely to make my Spiner that much more unique, and to let it out gun the resurgence of zoids like the Ice Blazer. I’m just glad the ZBC is making sure that none of these old Imperial zoids are equipped with gravity cannons and fitting them with Light Particle Cannons instead.”

“Yes, I agree. They have enough weapons as it is, we don’t need them running around with gravity cannons. Besides, the LPC’s are more practical, since they don’t run on those hard to manufacture shells.”

Kevin laughed. “Well, have fun building my Unit. Let me know when you finish.” He said with a wave as he left the room.

“You got it!” the man called after him. He turned back to Kevin’s plans. “Heavyarms Unit, eh? Someone’s been watching a little too much anime, but then...I’m not complaining!” He said with a grin, calling the rest of his design team.

Near the area of construction, about 500 kilometers away, in fact, something was sleeping. A huge cavern full of zoid stasis containers was located 500 kilometers northwest of the construction zone. Unbeknownst to anyone, they would soon awaken. Alls that was necessary was a simple chain of preordained events. And the occupant of the largest container sensed that these events would play out without a hitch.
