Ion Fortuna, a.k.a. the Count of Memphis, is by far my favorite character in this series (Notice he's voiced by...ta...da....Alphonse Elric himself.). He enters the series in episode 12 as an envoy from the New Empire. Unfortunately, his timing is bad, and he is mistaken for an assassin and injured. Ion is a Methuselah, in other words a vampire. As a Vampire he is able to heal quickly.

Ion is also known as the "Lord of Moldova." He is a member of the Imperial nobility ruled by the Empress. Even though he may not always agree, the will of the Empress is absolute for him.

After Ion was betrayed by his friend and comrade, he became very close to Sister Esther. So close that he fell in love with her even after their rocky start. The two, along with Father Nightroad, work together to protect the Empress and preserve a peaceful coexistence for vampires and humans.
