Shaman King is about individuals who have the ability to communicate with spirits. Those individuals that can become one with their spirit, gaining skills and strengths, are called Shamans. Every five hundred years there is an important tournament to determine the Shaman King. The one crowned Shaman King works with the great spirits. If an evil Shaman were to become king, it could mean the end of the world as we know it.

Enter Yoh Asakura, a good natured boy who comes from a long line of Shamans. He came to Tokyo to find his destiny spirit. That spirit turns out to be Amidamaru, a powerful samurai from 500 years in the past. Yoh, also, befriends a young boy named Morty who can see spirits, but is not an actual Shaman. The friendship between the two provides support and helps Yoh endure the vigorous training required by his headstrong fiancé, Anna. As the tournament draws near, Yoh encounters numerous other Shaman. Many of whom would like to see him eliminated from the tournament. This competition makes for some very exciting Shaman fights!

Like so many Japanese anime, Shaman King stresses the importance of camaraderie and friendship. With its mixture of humor and excitement this is a fun series that is sure to keep one entertained.
