Media Blasters let it be known that they hold the rights to the anime series "Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei." The series will have a subtitled DVD release set to hit the shelves in May of this year. In addition, Funi announced the license rescue of Trigun...now that's a good save.

Adding to the licenses is newcomer NIS America who announced plans to launch anime distribution in North America. This company has licensed some of the very best series of 2009. Those series include Toradora!, Persona Trinity Soul, Pandora Hearts, and Wagaya no Oinari-sama. I have no idea if an English dub will accompany the releases. We'll just have to wait and see.

As expected and now confirmed, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is coming to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim line-up. The series will make it's debut at Midnight on February 14th. Most of the series original dub cast will return. However, Al's dub actor has been replaced with Maxey Whitehead. (Boys voices change as they get older...it's inevitable! (^_~)) You can read all of the details at Anime News Network.

Following Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will be 4 straight episodes of Bleach. So before the dinner, flowers, and candy, enjoy an early morning Valentine's of great anime!

Just a couple weeks after Funimation had their 2010 licensing roll-out, Sentai Filmworks (formerly ADV) made some new announcements of their own. Adding to their anime library are the following: Gintama, Asatte no Houkou, Hidamari Sketch x 365, and Le Portrait de Petite Cossette. Those are all great titles, however, if you're someone who prefers a good dub, than you'll probably be disappointed. Sentai has been releasing all of their latest acquisitions as subtitled only.

Last week Funimation had their 2010 licensing roll-out.  All in all, I was very happy with the acquisitions.  I’ll admit that the first half of the week was disappointing, but that’s only because “live action” is not for me.  There is, however, a good size fan base for “live action”, and I’m sure it will fare well for the company.  When all was said and done the following anime as announced:

FLCL – license rescue and blu-ray planned release
Jyushin Enbu - Hero tales  - 2 half season releases starting Fall 2010
Master of Martial Hearts  - One DVD planned for Spring 2011
The Sacred Blacksmith – 13 episode set planned for Fall 2010
Hetalia - Axis Powers – 52 episodes (2 seasons) planned for late 2010

Jyushin Enbu, The Sacred Blacksmith, and Hetalia are definite buys so the announcements really pleased me.  I’m hoping others are pleased as well.

In other news, Cartoon Network ran an interesting commercial notifying anime fans that they will no longer be broadcasting Death Note or Blood+.  That’s the bad news.  The good news is they hinted that they were getting three new series.  It's not official yet, but one could premiere as early as February 6th. I would say that Inuyasha - The Final Act and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood seem obvious....but let's not jump to conclusions. We'll just have to wait and see.
