The boys are shown around and brought to their dorm by Kashima Yuno, Vice President of class 2-5.
They soon learn that there's one indispensable duty that the students of this school must carry out and that is participating in war time. The students are separated at random into 30 opposing groups. Battles are then executed between those groups.
Arata and Hikaru will be aligned with Jenock (Country's name). They fight while divided into virtual, or imaginary, countries. Battles are executed in a diorama underneath the academy. The terrain you see is a complete replica of that of the Earth's. A daytime simulator controls the passage of time.
All the simulation and effects are to analyze what would happen if these countries went to war in the real world. One other real purpose - to preserve world peace and prevent wars by analyzing a possible outcome. This is the Experiment Realism Project implemented by the United Nations, a program we call ERP.
The next day, Arata and Hikaru will participate in their new mission, which is a delivery train escort mission.
