Inuyasha: Destiny Revealed

Chapter Three

Sango entered her next class, which happened to be chemistry. She took her seat and waited patiently for the rest of the class to come in.

Miroku took his seat, which was to Sango’s left. He gave her his most charming smile causing her to blush.

She looked away muttering, “Hentai,” under her breath.

Inuyasha then came in taking his seat behind Miroku. He frowned as he saw the teacher wait for the other students to come in then grabbed out The Legend of Inuyasha and began reading it. He started getting a headache and put the book back in his backpack just in time to see Kagome take her seat behind Sango. He and Miroku looked at her wide-eyed. “You’re fresh meat. You’re not supposed to be here!”

Kagome gave him a glare and said, “I’m not fresh meat. Do I look like a cow or pig?!”

“Feh,” Inuyasha said and turned back around to see the teacher begin to teach them.

“Class, tomorrow we will be doing a lab,” the teacher said. “You will have partners and I have chosen them for you.”

Sango looked towards Kagome while she looked down at her desk. It appeared to Sango that Kagome was depressed about something and was going to ask when she heard what the teacher said next.

“Sango’s partner is Miroku,” the teacher said.

                                    Sango groaned while Miroku cheered.

“Yes! That’s twice today! My life can’t get any better!” Miroku cried out victoriously.

The teacher raised an eyebrow, but didn’t say anything. He then said, “Kikyo is with Koga.”

Kikyo and Koga both sent each other glares.

“Shippo is with Hojo,” the teacher said not noticing the fact that Kikyo and Koga looked like they were ready to kill one another.

                                    Shippo groaned while Hojo smiled.

“Kagome is with Inuyasha,” the teacher said then continued down the list.

Kagome sighed and continued looking down at her desk. Inuyasha gave her a glare, but it disappeared once he saw her depressed expression. He then noticed Miroku was looking at him while Sango was looking at Kagome. Inuyasha grunted, turned back around in his seat to face the teacher, stubbornly closed his eyes, and crossed his arms. Miroku slightly smiled knowing that Inuyasha had a soft spot for Kagome. Sango looked at Kagome, her face visible with concern.

“Do you think… she’s all right?” Sango whispered to Miroku.

Miroku looked away from Inuyasha and turned to face Sango. He shrugged. “We just met her. How would I know how she normally acts?”

Sango sighed and turned back around in her seat to face the teacher.

“Of course, today you have no need to see your partner, however, tomorrow you will,” the teacher said. He began passing out worksheets and soon the class was working.

It was now lunchtime and Kagome was famished as well as thankful. At least at this time she wouldn’t have to be anywhere near Inuyasha. She sighed as she grabbed her tray, which was filled with pepperoni and cheese pizza, salad, strawberry milk, and three chocolate chip cookies. She thought she had a very well balanced diet. She frowned as she tried to look for a spot to sit. It seemed all of them had already been claimed, though. In one corner were the jocks, in other were the Goths, and in another were the nerds, and so on forth. She sighed as she began walking towards a spot that was underneath a tree. “I suppose I’ll be eating alone today.” Something she wasn’t used to. She let out another sigh. Everyone who saw her eating alone would think she was a loner, a loser. She frowned as she bit into her pizza. Then again, I probably am a loser. I mean, who gets stuck with that big arrogant stuck up jerk called Inuyasha?! And who names their child Dog Demon, I mean, that’s EXACTLY what Inuyasha means! She frowned as she thought about this and shook her head. I shouldn’t be talking about that. Sango and Miroku’s last names were Neko and Houshi and that means Cat and Monk. And Shippo and Kikyo’s last names are Kitsune and Miko, which means their last names are really Fox and Priestess. She smiled at that thought. And Kikyo’s nothing like a priestess. She looked down at the grass. She’s nothing like the heroine I had always envisioned. Sure. I saw her looking exactly like that, but not so… sad. It’s almost as though Kikyo has some sense of longing within her eyes. Could it be that there’s more of Inuyasha she wants than he realizes? Or… does Inuyasha not accept her love, but lets her be his girlfriend just for amusement? She mentally growled. Oh, that big jerk! Just wait ‘till I get my hands on him.

Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango took their usual seat underneath the trees.

“Anyway, Kikyo isn’t going to be in a good mood all this week or however long until that project and lab are over. She hates Koga’s guts,” Inuyasha said going on about his conversation when they had been getting their food.

“Yes, but I am quite happy the way my life is going,” Miroku said looking up at the sky with stars in his eyes.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes while Sango shot Miroku a death glare that simply stated, “Come near me and die.”

Inuyasha sighed and looked off towards no direction in particular to see Kagome sitting underneath a tree all alone. Hmm, to sit with her or not to sit with her, that is the question. He frowned as he thought about everything that had happened that day. He shook his head. Nah. She deserves to be looked at as a loser.

Sango noticed Inuyasha looking at something or someone and looked at what he was looking at. “Oh my gosh. She’s all alone. She should sit with us or everyone will think she’s a loner.”

Inuyasha rolled his eyes. “And what if she really is a loner?”

Sango frowned. “She’s not. A loner would rarely speak to anyone including those who provoke them.”

“And how would you know?!” Inuyasha demanded standing up having no idea why he was defending himself or why he felt like he had to.

Sango gave him a look, shook her head, got up, then began going over to Kagome. Inuyasha glared at her back still having no idea why he had just defended himself.

Miroku sighed shaking his head then put a hand on Inuyasha’s shoulder. “Down, pup. There is no need to get so defensive.” After all, you have friends now and we’re only trying to give Kagome that same chance.

Kagome finished the last of her cookies and was about to get up to throw away her trash when she heard a voice.

“Here. Let me get rid of that for you,” the voice said.

Kagome looked up to see Koga holding out a hand and nodded smiling. She gave him her tray and he took it happily. Kagome stood up as Koga threw her trash away. Koga soon came back still smiling while Kagome slightly blushed. Koga’s smiled widened and he put an arm around her waist causing her to blush all the more. He then drew her close to him and that’s what did it.

Kagome growled no longer blushing and elbowed Koga in the stomach. She then quickly ran a few feet away from him while he reacted to the blow Kagome had just inflicted upon him. She glared daggers at him.

Inuyasha and Miroku watched Kagome and Koga quite amazed at what she had done. Sango was just a few feet from the two and had stopped when Koga had been talking to Kagome.

“Just who do you think you are?! I-You barely even know me and you decide to put your arm around me?! What kind of person do you think I am?! What kind of person are you?! You’re just like the rest of the guys that I’ve met at this school! Big, ignorant, inconsiderate, insensitive, JERKS!” Kagome cried clearly enraged at Koga.

Koga looked at her with disbelief. “How could you-”

“How could I? How could I?! You put your arm around me without even thinking about how it would make me feel!” Kagome cried.

“No. I mean, how can you be so strong that you would be able to inflict such pain to a full fledged wolf demon such as I?” Koga said as horror began to also make its way to his eyes.

“Huh? What? What do you mean by that?” Kagome asked puzzlement taking the place of her anger.

“No girl your age should have that kind of strength unless…” Koga’s face turned pale. “Y-you’re not by any chance a full fledged demon, are you?”

Kagome frowned. “I’m not any kind of demon. Many looked up to me because I had the strongest priestess powers. Mine were even stronger than those who were of higher Levels.” She looked down at the grass. “I… I don’t know why, though and I still don’t understand. They said I was a lot like Kikyo and some have even claimed that I was the reincarnation of Midoriko for they knew she, well, that is to say, they thought her personality was exactly like mine.”

Koga looked at her with wide shocked eyes. “Y-you mean you’re a priestess as in you have miko powers?!”

Kagome smiled sheepishly and nodded. She then noticed that Koga was in panic and her face filled with puzzlement as well as panic. What if everyone really did reject her now that, if Koga told them, that is, they knew she had miko powers, powerful miko powers! Kagome mentally groaned. She should’ve stayed on the planet Venus. At least there, she wouldn’t have to deal with being all on her lonesome.

“Yes, she’s a priestess. Now will you back off?!” a voice said releasing a growl.

Kagome and Koga turned to face the owner of the voice, which was none other than Inuyasha.

“And what are you going to do if I don’t?” Koga asked snarling and taking a step towards Kagome.

Inuyasha growled and put a protective arm around Kagome’s waist drawing her close to him. Kagome looked up at Inuyasha blushing, but was also confused by his sudden action.

“If you don’t, I’ll be sure to kill you personally and make sure you’re never brought back to life,” Inuyasha said snarling also puzzled by what he was doing.

“She’s my woman, mutt! You can’t have two!” Koga cried.

“Uhh…I…but…” Inuyasha was at a loss now.

“I’m not your woman!” Kagome cried. “I’m not a possession!”

Inuyasha looked down at Kagome and nodded. He then glared daggers at Koga again and growled out, “Yeah! So back off!”

Koga growled again and was about to punch Inuyasha when…

“Inuyasha, is Koga giving you any trouble?” a calm voice asked.

Kagome felt a shiver go down her spine and already knew whom it was. Inuyasha was overjoyed knowing exactly whom the voice belonged to. Koga’s eyes narrowed when he saw who had spoken.

“Yeah, Kikyo. He’s always causing trouble,” Inuyasha said smiling at the sight of his girlfriend.

Kagome’s anger disappeared and was replaced by sadness. She didn’t know why she was sad and didn’t know if she wanted to know why for she felt a deep pain within her heart at the sight of Kikyo and Inuyasha being together. She sighed and looked down at the ground, her bangs hiding her eyes from the world. Why do I feel like this?

Suddenly, the scene before her changed and she found herself standing in front of a tree. She looked around somewhat confused when she saw Kikyo and Inuyasha standing in front of her. Her eyes lit up and she was going to run over to them, but found she couldn’t move.

Oh, man. This is way scary and spooky, Kagome thought as she felt another shiver go down her spine.

                                    “Kikyo…” Inuyasha said softly.

Kikyo looked towards him, her eyes filled with sadness.

“It was you, wasn’t it… gathering those dead women’s souls…” Inuyasha said.

“What? Dead souls? Gathering them? What are you talking about?” Kagome asked becoming puzzled.

Kikyo backed up a bit as flying insect like creatures flew towards her carrying white orbs of light.

Inuyasha took a step towards her. “Why…?”

“This… sham body…  made of dirt and bone… does not function well unless nourished with souls,” Kikyo said.

Inuyasha looked at her with eyes that Kagome wished he would look at her with for they were eyes of understanding and love.

Kagome shook her head. What am I thinking?! I just met him today and he’s such an arrogant jerk! She then looked towards Kikyo. But what is she talking about? AND WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS?!

“You must find me disgusting, Inuyasha. I live in this realm, wrapped in the souls of the dead, driven only by the hatred of you,” Kikyo said as hate, betrayal, and hurt filled her eyes.

“What? Kikyo, why do you hate him? Souls of the dead? What the heck is going on?!” Kagome asked becoming even more confused by the minute.

“You……fool! You may hate me… but I… I haven’t stopped thinking about you for a single day!” Inuyasha cried. He looked down at the ground. “I don’t care what you look like… I could never find you disgusting.”

Kikyo looked at him her eyes filled with what looked like realization.

“Oh. So… he does love her… I guess,” Kagome said her gaze dropping to the ground. Why do I feel like this? I hate his guts! He’s such a jerk after all! Then again, he was helping me with Koga and… What the-How did I get here?! What happened to everyone else?!

“Is that… true…?” Kikyo asked as her eyes filled with sadness once again.

                                    “Kikyo…” Inuyasha said softly.

Kikyo looked up at him then placed a hand on his cheek. “Aren’t you frightened…? I might kill you with these hands right now…”

Inuyasha looked down at her with a look that Kagome couldn’t quite make out.

Kagome shook her head and shouted, “Kikyo, you had better not hurt him, you got that?!” She wasn’t even sure if Kikyo could hear her at all. Is this all some big messed up dream?!

Kikyo then kissed Inuyasha. Inuyasha looked at her surprised once her lips had touched his. Kagome looked at the two as though someone had told her that her family had all been killed.

“Uh…” Inuyasha said unsure of what to say.

Kikyo hugged him. “I wanted to do this… when I was alive.”

Kagome still looked like someone had told her she only had a few hours left to live.

“Kikyo…” Inuyasha said softly yet again. He then said it a second time and Kagome’s eyes filled with sadness as tears began filling her eyes.

Why do I feel like this?! I’m… going to cry. She shook her head and smiled sadly at Inuyasha and Kikyo. I wish he would say my name like that. She shook her head again. What is wrong with me?! I can’t be-can’t be-Why do I feel like someone has just ripped out my heart and stomped on it?! And Kikyo’s dead?! This is getting way too weird for me!

“Kikyo… what… what should I do?” Inuyasha asked.

“We can never… return to that past…” Kikyo said. “So… let us just be like this for a while longer…”

Kagome grunted and looked away then muttered, “You know, if you two would like to be alone, I could leave if one of you would just release me.” She then heard a strange noise and heard the split of earth from the ground and looked towards Kikyo and Inuyasha to see them being pulled into the ground! She began to panic. “Inuyasha! Kikyo! You guys are being pulled into the ground! Hurry! Move it!”

Kikyo opened one eye that showed hatred and Kagome felt her blood freeze.

Kagome gulped suddenly fearing her favorite heroine.

“Inuyasha… I shall never let you go again… come with me to Hell!” Kikyo said.

“What-what?!” Kagome asked her eyes widening. Sure she hated Inuyasha, but she didn’t think he deserved to be in that place! “Inuyasha, get away from her! She’s killing you! Inuyasha!” She then remembered that Kikyo had looked at her, which meant, Kikyo had seen her! “Kikyo, I know you can hear me! Set Inuyasha free!”

Kikyo looked towards her from the corner of her eye then turned to face her raising a hand in the air then pointed it at her. “Silence.”

Kagome felt an invisible force hit her and looked towards Kikyo fear visible across her face. “Ki-Kikyo.”

“Vengeance alone…… will not resurrect me,” Kikyo said hate visible within her eyes once again. She then looked towards Inuyasha again as her eyes softened into a look Kagome thought as an evil and yet lonely one. “Inuyasha, don’t you agree… that rather than living the rest of your life unable to forget me, it’s better to die with me now and forever…?”

Kagome felt anger take the place of her fear and shouted, “You… psycho… witch…! I’ve had enough!! Get your bloody hands off him!!”

Kikyo looked shocked as though a train had ran over her and she had miraculously survived. A bunch of white beams began coming out of her body, but Kagome paid it no heed. Kikyo looked towards Kagome and she swore she heard everything Kikyo was thinking.

This girl…… wants to steal my soul! I must hurry! Before all the souls depart this body…! Kikyo thought and began dragging Inuyasha with her further into the ground.

“Inuyasha! Wake up!” Kagome cried. “Inuyasha!”

Inuyasha opened his eyes shocked then looked in Kagome’s direction. He then spotted her and unsheathed a sword and began running towards Kagome.

Kagome’s eyes widened in surprise. He has a sword?! She then began observing everything and realized Kikyo was wearing priestess clothing and Inuyasha was wearing some type of red clothes from the Feudal Era.

                                    “Kagome!” Inuyasha cried.

Kagome’s eyes widened when she heard Inuyasha cry out her name, but felt somewhat comfortable with it. “Inuyasha!”

“Inuyasha…” Kikyo said as she watched Inuyasha run to Kagome.

Inuyasha slashed at something, but whatever it was, no longer held Kagome and she could move once again.

“What are you doing here?!” Inuyasha demanded, but Kagome could hear the concern in his voice.

“What am I…?!” Kagome said wanting to ask him the same exact question.

Inuyasha looked up to see the same insect like creature things flying around the tree. Kagome looked towards him somewhat puzzled as well as concerned. The creatures went over to Kikyo. Kagome and Inuyasha watched as they began carrying Kikyo away into the darkness of the night sky. Kikyo looked towards Inuyasha with a saddened expression.

“Kikyo… you…?” Inuyasha said unable to finish his sentence.

Kagome looked towards Kikyo her eyes filled with fear again.

“Is that girl… more precious to you…?” Kikyo asked her eyes filled more sadness than before.

“What…?” Inuyasha asked puzzled while Kagome gave the priestess an equally puzzled look.

“Kikyo!” Inuyasha cried as she went further into the sky.

“Inuyasha, do not forget…… there was no lie in my kiss,” Kikyo said as she disappeared.

Inuyasha watched her while Kagome began getting angry.

“Do not forget…” Kikyo said and was gone.

                                    “Kikyo…” Inuyasha said softly.

The scene began changing again and Kagome found herself looking up at a white ceiling. She groaned and sat up rubbing her temples.

“I never ever want to dream about something like that ever again,” Kagome muttered. She got off the bed and began examining the room when she began to feel faint. The room appeared to be spinning around her and she began to feel nauseous. “In-u-yasha.” With that, she fell backwards and felt two arms catch her. She looked up, still a bit dizzy, to see Hojo. She groaned as he helped her stand up.

“You should get more rest, Higurashi,” Hojo said his face filled with concern.

Kagome nodded and swore she saw Inuyasha in the corner, but when she looked again he was gone. She shook her head and sat back down on the bed. “Arigato…” What was his name? Hoto? Hoko? Hoso? She groaned and lied down on the bed.

“Now, you rest, Higurashi-san. You’ll feel a lot better once you do,” Hojo said.

Kagome nodded as Hojo left. She sighed and closed her eyes.

Inuyasha smiled as Hojo left and went over to Kagome after making sure no one was around. He watched her as she rolled to her side, facing him. He smiled and placed a few strands of her hair behind her ear. Kagome slightly smiled as Inuyasha began tracing her jaw line. He quickly stopped when he realized what he was doing and looked at his hand with wide eyes. What am I doing?! I should be doing that to Kikyo when SHE’S asleep! Not Kagome! He couldn’t help, but smile though, as the sun shone on her face. She looks so… peaceful. He stood up and put a hand on Kagome’s shoulder. “Rest up, ‘kay.” He then turned around and left, but stopped when he heard Kagome mutter something.

“Arigato, Inuyasha,” Kagome muttered as her smile widened.

Inuyasha began blushing and quickly left not knowing why he had come there in the first place.

Kagome opened one eye, still smiling. Somehow, this all seems just right.
