Mysterious Ally

*Chapter One*
What’s do you call a person that can use youkai and miko powers?
Inuyasha and company were on yet another journey to find a shard of the Shikon no Tama. They had heard rumors that there were shards due south. The number of shards that were there was uncertain, but there was at least two. They had almost begun to hear about another person collecting jewel shards, but they figured it was just Naraku.
“Do you sense anything so far”, Inuyasha asked. “No”, Kagome said, “I’ll tell you when I do, so stop asking me every ten minutes.” “Are you sure there are shards around here”, Shippo asked. “That’s what the water sprites said”, Inuyasha said. “Do you think Naraku got to them already”, Sango asked. “It’s possible”, Miroku said, “But he was injured from our last encounter.” “There’s a shard near by”, Kagome said, “It’s faint, but I can feel it.” “Where at”, Inuyasha asked. Kagome looked around trying to find where the shard’s presence was strongest. “Up ahead”, Kagome said, “There’s more than just one or two.” “Finally some action”, Inuyasha muttered.
When they found the shard and the youkai that possessed it, there was already someone fighting for the shard. It looked like it was a youkai from first glance, due to the speed and agility that she had. But she was dressed in white and black in the style of a priestess. She had long black hair and violet eyes. She was doing a good job of avoiding the youkai.
The youkai was a huge ogre. Its skin was a sickening yellow with black blots all over its body. It had three horns coming out of its head and glowing green-yellow eyes. In its hand was a huge club, which it was using to try and hit the girl with.
“What the hell does that human think she’s doing”, Inuyasha muttered as they watched from a safe distance. “She’s got more shards”, Kagome said, “It looks like six or seven.” “How can a human possess so many shards”, Miroku asked. “I’ll just take them off her hands”, Inuyasha said cracking his knuckles. “You should wait until the fight ends”, Sango said. “Why”, Inuyasha said, “If I go now, I can get the one the oni has and then I can get the girl’s shards.” “We should see how the fight turns out”, Miroku said, “It won’t kill you to just sit and watch.” “Feh.” Inuyasha glared at Miroku briefly, but returned to the fight. “So where is the shard at”, he asked. “On its forehead”, Kagome said.
The girl had managed to knock the club from the youkai’s hands and was now on the offense. Using her speed and agility, she managed to confuse the youkai. She used her bow and an arrow to shot the youkai. It hit the oni in its forehead where the shard was. The oni let out a loud cry, then disappeared in a blast of pink light. “She purified it”, Sango said in a hushed voice. The girl picked up the shard where it fell and placed it in a pouch that hung from her neck. Inuyasha got ready to jump out from their hiding spot, but stopped when the girl looked over. Her eyes narrowed and she walked on.
“Why didn’t you go”, Shippo asked. “Something isn’t right”, Inuyasha said, “There’s no way she could have killed the youkai with only an arrow.” “You felt it too then”, Miroku asked, “There was an evil presence nearby after the youkai was defeat.” “It was there while she fought against the youkai also”, Sango said, “It seemed stronger then.” “If she’s a youkai, then how was she able to purify the oni”, Shippo asked. “Maybe we should follow her”, Inuyasha said. “She knew we were here”, Kagome said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea to follow her if she can sense us.” “We probably just made too much noise”, Inuyasha said.
They quickly found the girl again. She was walking down a beaten path through the forest, whistling and swinging the pouch that she wore around her on her finger. “Are you sure this is the same girl”, Miroku asked. “She looks the same”, Inuyasha said, “And the smells are similar.” “She’s got the shards in that pouch”, Kagome said as they slowly inched toward her. “How many are there”, Inuyasha asked. “It looks like eight”, Kagome said. Suddenly the whistling stopped and the girl looked back. The others quickly froze in their tracks. The girl shrugged and continued walking.
“I think Kagome-sama is right”, Miroku said. “You remember those rumors of someone collecting the shards that we heard about”, Sango asked. “Do you think this is the person they were talking about?” “The sprites that I got the information from sounded like they were afraid of her”, Inuyasha said. “They’ve got a reason”, Kagome pointed out, “She could just purify them if she wanted to.” “That’s still no reason to be afraid of her”, Inuyasha said. The girl stopped for the second time and she glanced behind. They froze in their tracks again. The girl’s eyes narrowed as she scouted the area surrounding her.
“You can come out now”, the girl said, “I’ve known you were there the entire time.” They glanced at each other, knowing they were caught. “This was your idea”, Kagome said. “You went along with it”, Inuyasha said. “I didn’t have much of a choice”, Kagome replied as they walked out of the line of trees. “The same ones that were watching me when I got the shard from the oni”, the girl said, “What do you want?” “Those jewel shards you got”, Inuyasha said. “No”, the girl said. “I guess I’ll just take them then”, Inuyasha said. “Sankon Tetsusou!” The girl dodged Inuyasha’s attack and landed a few feet behind where she was last standing. “I have no interest in fighting you”, the girl said in a bored tone, “It will only embarrass you and cause me more trouble than I need. So just go away and stop following me.”
Inuyasha smirked and pulled out the Tetsusaiga. “I’m gonna get those jewel shards even if I have to take off your head”, he said. “I told you no”, the girl said, “Unless you wish to meet the same fate as the oni I fought, then I would advise you to leave.” “Not a chance”, Inuyasha said. He charged toward her, the Tetsusaiga ready for attack.
“Do you think we should stop him”, Shippo asked. “Let him fight”, Sango said, “We’ll step in if he gets himself in trouble.” “He’ll probably get himself beat up pretty badly again”, Miroku said as they watched Inuyasha’s repeated attempts to harm the girl and the girl’s repeated avoidance. “The worst he can do is get himself killed”, Kagome said. “He’ll probably let this all go to his head”, Shippo said, “As usual.” “She’s seems to be abnormally calm despite the fact she’s facing Inuyasha with no weapon”, Miroku said. “Over confident”, Sango guessed. “I don’t think so”, Kagome said. “No way”, Shippo said, “She couldn’t!” “Couldn’t what, Shippo”, the three asked. “I think Inuyasha’s in for the surprise of his life”, Shippo said with a small smile.
“Aren’t you going to stop moving around and stand still”, Inuyasha asked. “Just so you could try to kill me”, the girl asked, “I think not. Should I end this early then?” “Yeah”, Inuyasha said, “Just stand still!” The girl’s right hand started to glow and Inuyasha was too close to her to stop from attacking her. He brought the Tetsusaiga down and the girl stopped it with a wave of her hand. The Tetsusaiga seemed to be stuck in the air. “Don’t take this personally”, the girl said. She threw a rather large ball of blue-green fire at Inuyasha. Inuyasha was unable to move, so he took the attack head on. “Can’t say I didn’t warn you”, the girl said. Inuyasha put out the small flames on his haori and glared at the girl.
“I’ll take this if you don’t mind”, the girl said reaching up to grasp the Tetsusaiga’s handle. It transformed when she took it. “Nice sword”, she said looking at it. “It’ll go great with the rest that I have in my collection.” “It’s useless to you”, Inuyasha said, “So just give it back.” “I wouldn’t say that”, the girl said. She tightened her grip on the handle and the sword went back to its transformed state before the girl took it. “It seems to work”, she said as the others gawked at her. “See ya around.” The girl walked off, twirling the Tetsusaiga in its normal state and whistling.
“What the hell just happened”, Inuyasha asked. “I was just about to ask you the same thing”, Miroku said, “How could that girl hold the Tetsusaiga and make it transform?” “I told you he was in for a surprise”, Shippo said. “What are you talking about brat”, Inuyasha asked making a wild grab for Shippo and holding him up-side down by his tail. “You couldn’t sense it”, Shippo asked. “Sense what”, Inuyasha growled. “She was using kitsune magic”, Shippo said, “You said something wasn’t right about her yourself.” “You mean the fire she threw at Inuyasha”, Kagome asked. “Hai. It was the same kind of fox fire I use only more powerful”, Shippo replied, “Can you let me go? I’m getting sick!” Inuyasha tossed him to Kagome, who caught him easily.
“I suppose we’re going after her”, Miroku said. “Hell yes”, Inuyasha said, “She stole the Tetsusaiga and I’m going to get it back!” “She told you she didn’t want to fight”, Sango said. “It Inuyasha you’re talking about”, Shippo said as they followed the angry hanyou stomp off in the same direction that the girl had left. “Nothing gets past that thick head of his.” “Shippo how long did you know she was using kitsune magic”, Kagome asked. “Only when her hand started to glow”, Shippo said, “It’s the best and easiest way to make the most powerful attack.” “That would explain her speed and agility”, Sango said, “A normal human wouldn’t be that fast or swift.” “But how could she use kitsune magic, but still have an aura like a human”, Miroku asked. “Not all youkai are bad”, Shippo said. “She didn’t seem to be youkai at all”, Kagome said, “And if she can purify youkai, then she has to be human.” “She did have something weird about her”, Sango said.
As night began to fall, they managed to convince Inuyasha to stop searching for the girl and stay at the local village for the night. “She’s here”, Inuyasha said, “Her scent is everywhere.” “It’s a youkai!” The villagers ran and yelled while Inuyasha tried to pin point the girl. “Get my lady”, one of the villagers yelled. Other villagers yelled the same thing until another yell was heard. “What is the cause of this uproar?” The villagers who were gathering now split. “The princess will slay these youkai”, one villager cried. Inuyasha and co. were speechless as they watched the villagers’ reactions. “What’s all this about”, Inuyasha muttered. “The white-haired one is going to curse us”, some of the villagers said as they ran for cover. A girl walked forward, who was obviously the princess. She looked just like the girl that stole the Tetsusaiga. “They’re youkai, m’Lady”, one villager said, “The white-haired one with the ears was crawling around looking for something.” “I see”, the princess said, nodding as she listened to the villager. “These people are not hostile at all”, she said, “And three of them are not youkai. I was informed of their arrival, but I had forgotten to inform you of it. They are to come with me back to the palace.” The princess nodded toward them and they followed.
“I don’t mean to be rude or anything”, Kagome said once they arrived, “But who are you and how did you know we were going to be coming?” “My friend informed me”, the princess said, “She said that there would be six in company. Three humans, two youkai, and one hanyou. She requested that if you were to come looking for a place to stay that I would allow to stay in the palace. As for who I am, my name is Nyumi.” “Not to be rude again, Nyumi-sama, but who is your friend”, Kagome asked. “Her name is Sakura”, Nyumi said, “She mentioned that you wouldn’t know who she was until you saw her.” They exchanged puzzled looks, but kept quiet.
“Summon Sakura-chan”, Nyumi told one of the guards. “She is waiting in the main room already, Nyumi-sama”, the guard replied. “Did she say anything before she left that I should know”, Nyumi asked. “Iie, Nyumi-sama”, the guard replied. “Thank you”, Nyumi said, “I shall sent someone soon to relieve you.” They walked inside and sat in a semi-circle around Nyumi. “She’s hiding as usual”, Nyumi said, “You mustn’t mind her ways. She can be very childish at times. Sakura-chan, your visitors have arrived.” “Welcome”, Sakura said steeping from the shadows. “You!” Inuyasha got up and ready to attack, while the others looked very surprised to find the same girl that they saw earlier today now in front of them.
