Inuyasha: The Prophecies
By: Guardian Angel
Chapter Twenty-two
“I see,” Sesshomaru said. “So, you have no idea why she looks like Nina and smells like her and everything?”
Max nodded.
“And she has no memory up to three months ago?” Rin asked.
Max nodded again. “That’d be correct, Lady Rin.”
Anna gave Max a look and shook her head.
Sesshomaru frowned. “This is too much to be a mere coincidence. Naraku must be behind it.”
“Isn’t everything that seems to always be too good to be true, Naraku’s doing?” Sharon asked as she crossed her arms.
Sesshomaru gave her a dry look before standing up just in time to see Destiny and Inukai walk into the room. He sighed wishing that the two could’ve stayed outside a bit longer. He then gave Inukai a look that plainly said they’d be talking later and left.
Rin smiled warmly as she stood up. “So, why don’t you guys stay for the night? I’m sure Fluffy-kun wouldn’t mind.”
Inukai smiled at the mention of Fluffy-kun mentally putting it on his How to Tease Sesshomaru list. “Sure. We’d love to stay.”
Rin nodded still smiling and led them all up to the rooms they’d be staying in after dinner.
Destiny sat down on her bed and frowned. Anna had to share rooms with Sharon, Max with Reiji, and she had gotten stuck with Inukai. She growled as she began biting on her lower lip. Of all the ungrateful idiotic things to do, I get stuck sharing a room with a boy! An inu hanyou boy no less! One that happens to be a stubborn, inconsiderate, insensitive, immature, easily angered, little jerk!
Inukai didn’t seem any better with the arrangements. When they all had to pick their rooms, Anna had instantly ran to Sharon before Max could even say he was sharing a room with her and Max had decided to stay with Reiji claiming that they had things to talk about leaving Inukai and Destiny sharing a room with each other.
And the two weren’t stupid. They both knew exactly why the others had left them to be paired up. It wasn’t exactly brain surgery. They were trying to get him and her together! Destiny knew that she might feel odd things for the hanyou and might blush from time to time, but she barely knew him and; therefore, wasn’t qualified to be in love with him in the first place. As for Inukai, he had cursed Anna and the others for thinking of it in the first place and had already cursed the gods so many times he lost count, not to mention the fact that they had done this to him after the three months that had passed of Nina’s death. And, to make things even more complicated (and get him even more angry), was the fact that he was even beginning to get feelings for the girl!
Destiny let out a frustrated sigh as she lied down on her stomach and looked towards Inukai.
Inukai growled and looked towards her. “What the hell are you staring at?!”
“N-nothing,” Destiny said quickly averting her gaze away from him and towards the blue blankets as she began blushing.
Inukai frowned and turned back around as he said, “Keh.”
Destiny let out another sigh as she looked towards Inukai again. “Umm, you know, there’s only one bed and, umm…” She began blushing. “Umm, well, there are only two of us and one bed and, umm, one of us are going to have to sleep on the floor.”
“Keh. That someone that will be on the ground happens to be you,” Inukai said looking lazily towards Destiny.
Destiny growled and sat up. “I am not sleeping on the ground! You sleep on the ground!”
“Keh. And what ya gonna do if I don’t?” Inukai said as he stood up crossing his arms and smirking.
Destiny blinked a few times and stood up when the answer came to her. She then went over to Inukai and pressed her hands against his chest as her eyes narrowed. “I’ll tell you what I’m going to do. I’m going to say a certain word so many times that you’ll go right through the earth.”
Inukai’s eyes narrowed when he realized what word she was talking about. “You had better not.”
“Then you had better sleep on the floor ‘cause I definitely am not sleeping on the ground,” Destiny said now crossing her arms.
Inukai growled as he marched up to her, his nose barely touching hers. He then grabbed her by the arms and growled out, “There is no way in hell that I’m sleeping on the ground.”
Destiny gulped as she felt her heart begin to pound. Despite what Inukai had said, she didn’t feel angry any longer. She felt… nervous. She found that she kept staring at Inukai’s lips that were really too close to her for comfort. She even felt herself lick her own lips.
Inukai watched her and began feeling his own heart begin to pound when he saw her lick her lips. He gulped as his face drew closer to hers. Destiny closed her eyes once Inukai’s lips brushed lightly against hers. She swore she heard fireworks go off in the background, but she didn’t care at that very moment. She just wanted more of Inukai. She wrapped her arms around his neck. Inukai wrapped his own arms around her waist and drew her closer to her as he deepened the kiss.
Just then a voice asked, “Umm, I don’t mean to interrupt you guys, but…”
Inukai and Destiny quickly pulled away from each other furiously blushing. Inukai growled and sent the one who had spoken (which happened to be Max) a death glare.
Max smiled. “Well, I’ll just inform the others how amazingly well you two are getting along.”
Destiny just turned even redder while Inukai sent Max a warning growl.
Inukai knew full well that, one, Max would love to interrupt him and Destiny and, two, would inform the others of what he and her were doing.”
“Anyway,” Max said as he looked towards Destiny who turned even redder which greatly amazed him since he thought she couldn’t get any redder. Apparently, he had been wrong. He shook his head and turned his attention back to Inukai. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Well, what if we’re not hungry,” Inukai said.
Max’ smile widened. “Well, I’ll just inform Sesshomaru-sama and Rin-sama that you two are busy getting to know one another.”
If possible, Destiny turned even redder while Inukai lunged at Max to claw him to pieces.
Luckily, Max moved out of the way in time and began running down the stairs after he left the room yelling, “Now, now, there’s no need to be ashamed of such a thing.”
Inukai growled louder and yelled, “If we weren’t staying here, you’d be dead! In fact, once we leave, you are so down right dead!”
Max let out laugh and said, “Yeah. That’ll be the day.”
Inukai just growled and shut the door. He then turned to face Destiny. “Now, where were we?”
Destiny, finally regaining her composure, said, “You kissed me. Why did you kiss me?”
Inukai blinked a few times then said, “What kind of question is that?! I kissed you because I wanted to! And, from what happened, I’d say the same goes for you.”
Destiny’s eyes narrowed. “You were thinking I was that one girl, the one you loved that died, huh?!”
“What?! Was not!” Inukai cried.
“You were, too!” Destiny cried. “You can’t be in love with me already! We barely know each other!” However, she didn’t feel that way. She felt like she had known Inukai forever.
“Yeah, right. As if,” Inukai said as he crossed his arms. “You know you liked it and wanted it to happen. I could tell.” He pointed to his ears.
“Yeah, well, well…” Destiny trailed off unable to think of anything to defend herself since she knew that Inukai had heard her heart pounding and she had heard his own pounding.
Inukai sighed as he sat down on the bed. “I don’t why, but I feel like I’ve known you forever. I feel like Nina’s come back to me only-”
“So, that’s all I am, huh?” Destiny asked as she looked down at the ground and her hands turned to fists her claws digging deep into her hands.
Inukai looked towards her puzzled.
Destiny began biting on her lower lip as she felt tears fill her eyes. “All I am is Nina’s replacement and nothing else.” She glared at Inukai as the tears began going down her cheeks. “I don’t ever want to see you again, Inukai!” She then stormed out of the room leaving behind a very puzzled Inukai as well as heart wrenched from seeing her cry.
Destiny ran down the stairs and out the front door towards the garden. She stopped once she reached and tree and jumped up onto one of the higher branches that were just high enough to keep her out of view of anyone on the ground and low enough that no one would be able to see her above the tree. She sat down and began sobbing. She was just a replacement, nothing more. Whenever Inukai looked at her, all he would see would be Nina. She’d be nowhere. Destiny growled as she wiped up her tears and glared up at the sky angrily.
“You gods love to mess with my life, don’t you?! You make me lose my memory then make me have to look like the very girl that the boy that I think I-I…” Destiny trailed off as she looked back down at the ground. “That I…That I what? That I hate? That I- Gahhhh! I don’t even know how I feel about him!” She then began blushing as a sudden thought came to her. “Maybe I did really know him. Maybe I had a crush on him and that Nina was my sister or something.” She sighed. “Why’s my life so complicated?”
Inukai sat down at the table and began eating ignoring the annoyed and angry looks of Anna, Sharon, and Reiji while Sesshomaru just gave him a disappointed look and Rin gave him a puzzled look. Max, on the other hand, kept giving Inukai knowing glances. Inukai, finally becoming frustrated from them, growled out, “What the hell are you all looking at?! Do you have a staring problem or something?!”
Anna instantly stood up and said, “One, that’s very rude to say considering you and the rest of us are guests here and you had go and be an idiot once again and you sent Destiny crying out of here!”
Max then stood up and put a restraining hand on Anna’s shoulder before she could go and beat Inukai up. “It is also very rude to fight within the hosts’ household.” He then looked towards Inukai smiling. “Of course, I am unclear what you did to ruin the moment between you two…”
Sharon raised an eyebrow. “Moment? What moment?”
Reiji groaned realizing what Max meant.
Max’s smile widened. “Well, my friends, Inukai and Destiny were, hmm, how shall I put it?”
Inukai growled, grabbed his bowl of rice, and threw at Max’s face.
Max, who hadn’t seen this coming, let out a sigh as soon as the bowl fell to the ground. “Now, that was uncalled for. If-”
Before Max could finish, Sharon grabbed Anna’s plate, which was filled with chicken teriyaki, and threw at Inukai hitting him in the chest. Anna glared daggers at Sharon for throwing her most favorite food and grabbed a bowl of ramen and threw it at her. Max sighed as Sharon, Anna, and Inukai continued throwing food at one another.
“Guys, this is most-” Before Max could finish; a bowl of stew hit him in the face. He began growling and wiped it away from his face. “Okay. That’s it. You’ve all done it now.” He grabbed out a handful of chicken potpie and threw it at Inukai crying, “Food fight!”
Reiji ducked as smash potatoes went his way. He frowned as he stood up just in time to be hit in the face with a splash of Pepsi. He let out a growl of frustration and grabbed his glass of orange soda and splashed it at Max’s face.
Sesshomaru stood up as the food fight continued and declared, “Stop this at once. This is unacceptable within my household.”
Rin frowned and grabbed Sesshomaru’s glass of wine. She then splashed it in his face. “Awww, come on, let them have their fun. Their just children after all and this is the first time in a while that they’ve actually been able to act their age.”
Sesshomaru sighed as he tried getting the wine out of his hair. “You didn’t have to splash me, you know?”
Rin only smiled as she took Sesshomaru’s hand and led him away from the mess. “Well, you could use a bath, I suppose.” She kissed Sesshomaru on the cheek. “I’ll meet you in the room.” She then ran off.
Destiny jumped off the tree and returned to the house. When she heard shouting and things shattering, she instantly became concerned. She quickly ran to the scene and stopped when she came upon it. Her eyes widened at the sight. Max, Sharon, Anna, Inukai, and Reiji were all covered head to toe in food and drinks and they were still throwing food around and splashing each other with drinks. She let out a small giggle. They all reminded her of preschoolers except bigger and older. She smiled as she continued watching the scene. Inukai, Reiji, Sharon, Anna, and Max stopped once they became aware of Destiny’s presence.
Sharon and Anna looked down at the ground sheepishly. Max just smiled while Reiji shook his head.
Inukai marched up to Destiny and crossed his arms not caring how ridiculous he looked. “You all better now? No more crying?”
Destiny’s eyes narrowed. “You’re the one who caused it to happen, idiot.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t even know what I said to get you upset in the first place,” Inukai said.
“Are you that stupid?!” Destiny demanded.
“I am not stupid!” Inukai cried out defensively.
“Then you must be dense!” Destiny said. “You said you felt like you had Nina again! In other words, I am Nina, which I am so not! I am not going to be her little replacement, you jerk! I don’t want you to love me because you see Nina! I want you to love me because you see me!” She growled as she flexed her claws wishing she could rip up Inukai right now.
“I never said you were her damn replacement!” Inukai cried. “And I…” He frowned as he tried thinking of the right words to say and let out a defeated sigh.
Max raised an eyebrow. “Love? Hmm, and it’s only been what? Two days? My, how you two have are deeply in love indeed.”
Anna hit him on the head then turned her attention to Destiny. “You love him? That idiot?!”
Destiny began blushing when she remembered what she had said. “Of-of course not. We haven’t even known each other that long.”
“Ahh, but demons are quite different, Lady Destiny,” Max said. “You see, demons mate and when they do, it’s for life. When they find their mate, they know it. They just feel it. Or, as the humans put it, it’s love at first sight.”
“What?” Destiny asked as she began turning redder. Now she knew why she began feeling feelings she had never experienced when she was around Inukai. He’s-he’s my mate?! She turned a deeper shade of red. Why me?
Inukai growled and gave Max a glare. “Nina’s my mate, not her!”
Max just smiled. “My friend, you can not feel such feelings for two different woman. I believe it’s against the code of mating. However, there are exceptions such as Inuyasha’s father mating to a demon and then a human. But, most of the time, they only have one. However, say their mate died-”
Inukai grunted.
Max ignored him. “And years or even just a few months passed. A weird twist of fate happens and they meet someone who is exactly like their mate. The reason for this is called reincarnation, my friends. The person may have a completely different personality, but they still have the same soul as well as a similar appearance. A great example of this would be Kikyo, Inuyasha, and Kagome. Inuyasha and Kikyo were, how do you say, soul mates. Kikyo died and Kagome came. Inuyasha and Kagome’s souls instantly recognized one another and so; the two began, umm, recognizing one another. Of course, the two obviously are unaware of this and thought it was just love, but it is much deeper then that. Thus, my point being that Destiny may be the reincarnation of Nina and that would explain why she has no memory up to the point when Ai found her. Inukai and Destiny’s souls recognize one another and that is why they feel such things for each other despite both of them barely meeting.”
“We’re still here, you know,” Inukai muttered.
“This is giving me a headache,” Anna said groaning.
“This is kinda overwhelming, isn’t it?” Sharon said.
Reiji frowned and shook his head already knowing full well what it meant to be mated.
Destiny turned as red as a beet once she heard all of this. “You-you mean that I’m a reincarnation of the girl that he loved and now our souls are recognizing each other and that-that’s why it feels like we’ve known each other forever?”
Max nodded.
She then gave him a puzzled look when she asked, “Then why does it feel like I know you and everyone else, too?”
“You’re just remembering some things from your past life,” Max said.
Destiny sighed and shook her head. “I need to go get some rest. I’ll see you guys in the morning.” She was about go when she suddenly remembered something. She turned around and glared at Inukai. “And don’t you even think about staying in the same room as me because it’s not happening. You’ll just have to sleep on the couch.”
Inukai growled and was about to protest when Max put up an arm to keep him from going.
Max gave Destiny a smile while he nodded. “Don’t worry. I shall make sure that Inukai doesn’t go up there.”
Destiny rolled her eyes and left.
Max then turned around to face a very angry half dog demon. He put up a hand calmly and said, “Now, if I were to let you follow her to the room, I’d have to say that be a very bad thing to do. One, she’s angry. Two, your souls recognize one another and should anything happen during the night-”
Anna hit him on the head muttering, “Pervert.”
Max gasped and placed a hand over his heart. “Anna! I was not thinking such a thing. How could you accuse me of that?”
Anna and Inukai both rolled their eyes muttering, “Like we don’t have a reason to.”
Destiny sighed as she lied down on the bed and covered herself with the blankets. She yawned as her eyes closed. Soon, she was fast asleep and dreaming.
Destiny smiled as she watched a few children run around the park playing tag. She sighed as she sat down leaning her back against a tree, the shade covering her from the sun’s heating rays. She felt someone wrap their arm around her waist and pull her close to them. She looked up to see it was Inukai who was looking down her with his golden eyes. She saw an emotion in them that she had never seen before. It was one of love. She smiled up at him.
“Hey. What’s up?” Destiny asked.
Inukai gave her a warm smile as he put up one hand to cup her cheek and softly said, “The sky is up, but its beauty is nothing compared to yours.” His face drew closer to hers.
Destiny felt her heart begin to speed up as her breathing became slower. He was about to kiss her when the sky turned dark and Inukai disappeared. She looked around as she began to panic. Soon, the world was nothing, but the shade of blood red and black. She felt herself begin to sink into the ground. She saw dark figures begin to arise from the ground. They were all carrying swords and had spikes going down their spines. They also had claws and long fangs that hung from their lower jaw and bat like wings. They began walking towards her as she began sinking further and further into the ground. The creatures raised up their weapons and went in for the kill…
Destiny woke up as she put a hand over her pounding heart. She felt cold and suddenly realized she had been sweating the whole time. She groaned as she stood up. How long have I been out of it? She looked towards the clock to see it was a little passed midnight. She let out another groan and opened the closet hoping that there would be some sort of clothes she could borrow. She grabbed out a plain white spaghetti strap shirt and sky blue shorts that were a little above her knees. She frowned as she went into the bathroom to take a quick shower. Afterwards, she changed into the new clothes then left her room to go to the kitchen and have something to snack on. She passed Inukai who had, after all, slept on the couch. She smiled as his dog-ears twitched in her direction. She then entered the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. She then made herself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drank some milk. Once she was done, she left the kitchen and was about to go back upstairs when she heard a voice.
“What are you doing up so early?” the voice asked.
Destiny turned around to face the one who had spoken to her to see Inukai who was now sitting up with his arms crossed. “Well?”
“Umm, I, umm, got hungry so I went to get something to eat,” Destiny said. It wasn’t totally a lie. She had come down to eat, but only so she could try to get her mind off the dream and not because she was hungry.
Inukai grunted. “You’re lying.”
“Am not,” Destiny said defensively.
Inukai rolled his eyes. “You’re the same as me except with priestess powers yet you don’t use your senses, do you, puppy.”
Destiny’s eyes narrowed. “I am not a puppy.”
Inukai smirked. “Yes, you are. A dog uses their senses. You didn’t even sense me move before I said your name and you hadn’t even known it was me until I said your name. A real dog would’ve known it was me right away from their sense of hearing and smell. And you, little puppy, are lying. I know because I can smell your fear and hear the way your heart’s pounding.”
Destiny knew he was right and hated that. She didn’t like the fact that he could read her like a book and suddenly figure out everything she was trying to hide. She began biting her lower lip, looked away, and crossed her arms, “Keh.”
Inukai raised an eyebrow. “Keh?”
Destiny began blushing when she realized what she said. “Umm, umm, what? You’ve never heard of anyone saying keh before?”
Inukai shook his head knowing she was just trying to change the subject. “You didn’t answer me.”
“About what?” Destiny asked as she regained her composure.
Inukai grunted again. “About what you’re doing up so early!”
“I already told you,” Destiny said as her anger returned. “I got hungry so I went to eat.”
“The truth, Destiny,” Inukai said letting out a low growl.
Destiny sighed as she looked away and began going upstairs. “It’s not my fault you think I’m lying because I’m not.”
Inukai growled in frustration once Destiny was out of his sight. This isn’t over. I will find out eventually.
