Chapter Five

Kagome followed Miroku and Sango into the forest. Izumi did, too, holding onto her mother’s hand.

“I wonder how much Inuyasha’s changed,” Kagome said. “Has he become an even more of a jerk? Or is he showing his true self now?”

“You’ll just have to wait and see,” Miroku said winking.

“So, you see, after we find Kagome, you guys will have a new aunt,” Inuyasha said.

                                      “Yay!” Sakura and Kai cheered.

                                      “Anna and Nina smiled.

Anna let out a sigh. “I need to get back home. We need to get back home. We have an English and science test tomorrow.”

Nina gasped. “And I haven’t studied any of it.” She began walking back and forth chanting, “This is bad. This is bad,” over and over again.

Inuyasha and the others sweat dropped.

Inuyasha, who finally got annoyed of this, quickly stopped Nina. “Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Sheesh. I knew you and Kagome had a lot in common, but I didn’t think you had that much in common with her!”

“What’s that suppose to mean?!” Nina demanded.

“It means you are way too much like Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled.

Nina crossed her arms and looked away. She then closed her eyes and smiled. “Feh!”

“Huh?” Inuyasha stopped talking. This had completely caught him off guard. He hadn’t expected Nina to say his word. He then shook his head. “That’s my word.”

“Um-hmm, sure,” Nina said still smiling as she opened her eyes.

                                      Inuyasha looked at her angrily.

“Whatever,” Anna said. “I’m going home. See ya.”

                                      “Hey! Anna, wait,” Nina said.

                                      Anna stopped. “What is it?”

“If you see my parents, could you kind of tell them the truth and that I’m okay be-because I’m going to stay here a little longer,” Nina said. “How long are you going to be gone?”

“For about a week,” Anna said. “I mean, I need to explain everything to my parents and they’ll probably ground me, so…”

“Okay, okay. I get it,” Nina said. She then smiled. “Well, bye. See ya later.”

                                      “Bye,” Anna said and left.

Nina sighed and turned to face Inuyasha. “So now what?”

                                      Inuyasha smiled. “We find Kagome.”

Nina frowned and shook her head. Should’ve known. “Figures.”

“Huh? What was that?” Inuyasha asked.

Nina shook he head and smiled. “Nothing.”

Inuyasha gave her a puzzled look.

“It was nothing. Really. Don’t worry about it,” Nina said still smiling.

                                      Inuyasha frowned.

“It’s nothing. Really,” Nina said becoming irritated and angry.

Inuyasha shrugged and turned to leave. “Come on. Let’s go.”

“Aunt Sango, do you have any children?” Izumi asked.

Sango looked down at Izumi and smiled. “Yes, I do. In fact, I have two. Their names are Sakura and Kai.”

“Sakura and Kai?” Izumi asked. She smiled. “Okay. Sounds cool to me.”

“Glad to hear it,” Sango said.

Kagome looked towards her daughter and Sango. She smiled and then turned her attention towards Miroku. “Tell me about Nina.”

“Huh? Hmmm.” Miroku nodded. “Then I shall.”

                                      “Inuyasha?” Nina asked.

                                      “Yeah?” Inuyasha asked.

“I think we should stop and take a break,” Nina said. “I mean, the kids are becoming restless.”

                                      “So?” Inuyasha asked.

“Inuyasha, they’re just little kids. They need a break once and a while,” Nina said.

                                      “Feh!” Inuyasha said.

“Inuyasha, quit being a jerk and let them rest,” Nina said putting her hands on her hips.

“Listen to her, mutt,” a voice said.

                                      “Yeah,” another one said.

Inuyasha, Nina, Sakura, and Kai turned around to see Koga and Shippo.

Koga hadn’t changed a bit. Shippo, on the other hand, had. He was much taller now. He was as tall as Inuyasha and Koga. His tail was gone and he now had human feet. He now wore a red vest, black kimono-like shirt, dark blue pants, and a dark blue bow in his hair. He was still bare foot.

Inuyasha grunted. “You’re still wearing a bow? Sheesh. I would’ve thought you get rid of that by now.”

“Whatever,” Shippo said crossing his arms and closing his eyes. “Like I really care about what you think.” He opened one eye to see Nina circling around him. He then opened both eyes. “What?!”

Nina stopped and pointed to where his tail had been. “Where’s your tail? And how come you have human feet?”

“Well, I finally learned how to disguise my true form,” Shippo said.

“Which is a fox,” Inuyasha said.

“So, this is the form I take on when I’m not in my true form,” Shippo said. “You know, kind of like Sesshomaru.”

                                      “Oh,” Nina said nodding.

“So, where are you guys going?” Koga asked.

“And why are you bringing Sango and Miroku’s kids with you?” Shippo asked.

“And who’s the new woman?” Koga asked.

“Are you replacing Kagome?” Shippo asked glaring at Inuyasha.

“Okay, okay. Enough questions. One, we’re going out to find Kagome-“

                                      “But-“

Inuyasha raised a finger to keep them quiet and then continued, “Two, Miroku and Sango are going to get Kaede to train “the new woman” as you put it and told me to watch over the kids. The “new woman” is Nina and, no, I am not replacing Kagome with her!!” At the last word he practically yelled and glared at Shippo. “Anymore questions?”

“Yeah. Kagome’s dead, so why are you-“

“Because she is alive,” Nina said knowing what Koga was going to ask.

                                      “How do-“

“Because I saw it in a vision of some kind,” Nina said interrupting Koga again.

“Why is Kaede going to train Nina?” Shippo asked.

“Because Sango and Miroku believe that Nina should learn to use her priestess powers in this new war,” Inuyasha said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Nina looks a lot like Kikyo and Kagome,” Koga said. “Why is that?”

“Because, at least this is what Kaede says, she’s the reincarnation of Kagome,” Inuyasha said.

“But how can that be when you just said she was alive?” Koga asked.

“And how can Nina have those kind of visions?” Shippo asked eyeing Nina.

                                      “How the hell-“

                                      “Don’t cuss, Inuyasha,” Nina said.

“Hey! I’ll cuss if I want to cuss,” Inuyasha said.

“No, you won’t!” Nina said turning to face him.

“You’re not the boss of me!” Inuyasha said his voice beginning to rise.

“Oh, well! Don’t cuss!” Nina said as her voice also began to rise.

“Why?! Because you’re some kind of saint?!” Inuyasha cried.

“No! Because I don’t like cussing!” Nina cried.

“Exactly! Making you a saint!” Inuyasha yelled.

“I am not a saint!” Nina yelled.

                                      “Yes, you are!”

                                      “No, I’m not!”

                                      “Are!”

                                      “Not!”

                                      “Are!”

                                      “Not!”

“Guys, can you two please quit arguing?” Koga asked yelling over the two voices.

Nina and Inuyasha stopped and looked towards Koga. They then turned their backs to each other, crossed their arms, closed their eyes, and said, “He/She started it!” The two then turned to face each other again and started arguing again.

Shippo sighed. “Kagome or not, she and Inuyasha are just like Kagome and him. Always arguing over pointless stuff.”

                                      Koga nodded. “You said it.”

“And that’s all Inuyasha has told me about her,” Miroku said.

Kagome nodded. So, the Shikon Jewel was inside her body and Naraku knows. Wait a sec! Inside her body?! Just like me! But how can she be my reincarnation when I’m still alive? And how did the jewel go inside her body? Maybe I should’ve asked Kaede. “Hey, Miroku, why did you go to see Kaede?”

“Huh? Oh. Well, we were getting her to train Nina in using her mystical powers,” Miroku said.

“Um, then shouldn’t she be with us?” Kagome asked.

“What? Oh, no! I completely forgot about that,” Miroku said.

“Don’t worry about it, Miroku,” Sango said. “We have Kagome with us, don’t we?”

Miroku sighed and smiled. “I suppose you’re right. Kagome, you don’t mind training Nina, do you?”

“Sure. I’ll train Nina,” Kagome said smiling. “It’ll be fun.”

Inuyasha and Nina were still arguing. Shippo and Koga, who finally got annoyed about this, went in and broke the two up.

“For crying out loud, will you two please give it a rest,” Koga said.

                                      “Yeah,” Shippo said.

                                      Inuyasha grunted.

Nina sighed and nodded. “You’re right. I’m being so immature.”

“Hmm, you know, I think I’m going to make a claim,” Koga said.

“Huh? Claim? What claim?” Inuyasha asked eyeing Koga.

Koga went over to Nina and put his arms around Nina’s waist. “I claim Nina as my woman.”

Inuyasha, Shippo, Nina, Kai, and Sakura sweat dropped.

Inuyasha then went over to Koga and pointed his finger at him. Listen, you, she is not your woman. Are we clear on that?”

“Hey! Unless you or someone else already made a claim on her, then she’s mine,” Koga said.

Nina looked up at Koga nervously. “Um, how about I’m nobody’s woman? Then everyone will be happy, won’t they?”

“Now, now, now. You don’t have to pretend you don’t want to be my woman just because the mutt said you couldn’t,” Koga said.

                                      Nina laughed nervously. “Um, right…”

“Koga, if you got nothing better to do than just to annoy me, I suggest you leave,” Inuyasha said showing his claws as he brought them up in front of his face.

“Actually, since I don’t have anything better to do, I’ll come with you to find Kagome,” Koga said. He released Nina.

Nina walked a couple of feet away from Koga smiling nervously.

                                      “I’m coming, too,” Shippo said.

“Fine. Whatever,” Inuyasha said and began leaving.

                                      Nina and the others followed.

Rin went over to her bed and lied down. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Rin was running away from Naraku. Naraku was getting closer to her. She continued running in the burning forest. A huge tree branch fell down right in front of it. Rin stopped in her tracks and looked around for another way out. She started running to her right. Naraku continued following her.

“Rin, be a good little girl and stop running away from me,” Naraku said.

Rin ignored him and continued running away from him. Naraku evilly laughed.

“Do you actually think you can get away from me?” Naraku asked.

Rin continued running. She then tripped over a rock. Rin looked down at her ankle to see that she had sprained it. She felt the pain and looked up to see Naraku lunge at her. She screamed.

Rin woke up with sweat going down her face. Her short breaths were rasped. A soldier was at the foot of her bed. Rin noticed him and looked down at him. “Wh-what is it?”

“Lord Naraku wishes to see you,” the soldier said.

Rin sighed and got out of bed. “I’ll be there in a minute.”

“He wishes for me to escort you there,” the soldier said.

Rin let out another sigh. “Very well. Take me there.”

The soldier nodded and got up. “Then we shall take our leave.”

“Indeed,” Rin said and followed the soldier.

Kagome sighed and sat down on a log. Izumi joined her and rested her head on Kagome’s shoulder. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. Sango lit a fire in the center and sat down on the logs opposite of Kagome and Izumi. Miroku sat down next to her.

“Naraku’s still alive. And Inuyasha knows that. Have the two tried killing each other?” Kagome said.

“Well, as far as we know, when Inuyasha had gone to watch over Nina, Naraku had gone to her house and mainly attacked during the night when she would be asleep. Whenever he went there, Inuyasha would fight him. But Naraku stopped sometime in late April. That was when he came here and started trying to be lord of all our lands. Well, I shouldn’t say try, but he pretty much succeeded. He has more than half of Japan under his control. His castle lies in the center of what used to be the village Kaede lives in. Now, it’s like a town or a city. We had to go through a lot of risks just to acquire the information where Kaede had gone. Anyway, two days ago, Inuyasha came back. He also brought with him, Nina. Him and Nina went to Kaede’s village to talk to her. What they found, obviously, wasn’t the village. Well, to make a long story short, Inuyasha and Nina decided to go to the lord’s castle although they didn’t know who the lord was. Nina was dropped of in the wardrobe section where she met Sango. Sango told her who the lord was and Nina went straight to the throne room to help Inuyasha in his battle. Even though Sango tried stopping her, she failed. Inuyasha, on the other hand, had gone to see the lord. It took him a while to figure out that it was Naraku. Inuyasha had tried to battle Naraku, but Naraku had called for Sesshomaru. So, Sesshomaru fought him instead. When Sesshomaru was about to harm him, um, never mind. The whole point is, yes, Inuyasha had tried killing Naraku and Naraku has tried killing Inuyasha even if it’s not him trying to do the killing,” Miroku said.

Kagome nodded. “It’s weird. The two greatest enemies ever. Both of them shouldn’t exist in the same time. Naraku’s too evil. Inuyasha’s, well, not. They’re both too powerful. They could destroy the world just fighting each other.”

“Kagome, what do you mean?” Sango asked.

Kagome’s eyes turned blank as she looked up at the full moon. “Two beings who are too powerful for the world to handle in the same time is a very bad omen. They will always clash their sword until one or the other is declared the lord of all the lands. Which means one of them would have to die. But before that happens, they may destroy the world. This is what we feared. We had not meant for the two to be in the same time. So, then when we had found out that we could not change the course of our time, we decided to create Midoriko who took on the task of getting rid of all the evil spirits. But after the Shikon no Tama was born, it had only complicated things as well as made them worse. The demon slayers decided they could not handle its power and, thus, handed it over to Kikyo. Inuyasha, like so many other demons, half-breeds, and humans, went after the jewel. As you know, the two had fallen in love and they had decided that Inuyasha would become human in order to purify the jewel and rid it of this world. But that had not happened, as you know. For Naraku had been born and prevented this. It was because of the jewel, that this had happened. We had not for seen this. It was indeed an ill omen. After Kikyo’s death, we decided that we would have to have her reincarnated so there would be someone who would be able to heal Inuyasha’s heart so he would be good. We hadn’t thought that she would be the key to his ultimate power. We hadn’t seen her death coming either. At least until you two had pointed out that it had to do with the legend about Ryouken. It was then that we found that she would die. Or at least that’s what we had thought.  We hadn’t thought she would survive, so we had her reincarnated as Nina. We should have known when Kagome’s soul would not appear when we had called upon it. She had been in the second grade when Kagome had supposedly died.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait a minute!” Miroku said waving his hands in Kagome’s face. “First of all, who are you? Second, who is we? Third, how can Nina be Kagome’s reincarnation when Kagome had lived and how could the two live in the same time? Fourth, how do you know about all this?”

“I am Alendria and we are the sorcerers and sorceresses who tell the future and tellings of the prophecies. We are not even sure how Nina and Kagome could live in the same timeline and we aren’t even sure how Nina had been born in the first place when Kagome had lived. And I, of course know all this, for I am a for-seer. We believe Nina lived because somehow without our noticing, someone had messed with our systems of operations. We believe it to be Naraku who had messed with them. This is why she resembles and acts like Kikyo as well as Kagome. It is also why the Sacred Jewel was within her body. And before you ask how that can be when the jewel was within Kagome’s body when both were both alive or are alive, I should say it was once again thanks to the one who had messed up our system,” the inside Kagome’s body said.

                                      Sango nodded. “Go on.”

“There was a prophecy that was told about a half-breed who would fall in love and possess the Shikon Jewel. There would be a priestess who would balance out the Jewel of Four Souls. There would be one who did not belong in one or the other. They would be part of both sides. One who is human as well as demon. One who is good as well as evil. One who would possess the power to rid of the great evil. One who would also be able to balance out the jewel and comes from a faraway land. The priestess and the half-breed would create the chosen one who would be able to do all these. The chosen one would become one of the most feared and one of the most loved. And you two must find the priestess and the half-breed. Our systems have failed and so we are no longer able to find the priestess and half-breed. We rely upon you to find them. We expect you will do great good by finding them. Your world shall be turned back to what it once was and peace will return to the lands. Once the chosen one has been found the great evil will be vanquished. Until then, you must get rid of either Naraku or Inuyasha for both may not be allowed to live in the same time. Once Naraku is gone, an even greater evil will arise and try doing what Naraku failed in doing. However, if Inuyasha is the one who dies, Naraku and the greater evil will work side by side and the world will be doomed and will be in eternal darkness,” Alendria said.

“Can you tell us about this greater evil?” Miroku asked. “And who it is? Can’t you give us any better clues to who the priestess and half-breed are?”

“It is time for me to take my leave,” Alendria said.

“No,” Miroku said. “Wait!” He grabbed Kagome by the shoulders. “You can’t leave just yet. Tell us more!”

Kagome’s eyes turned back to normal. She looked up at Miroku confused. “Wh-what is it, Miroku?”

“Huh? Oh. Lady Kagome, you’re back,” Miroku said releasing her and sitting back down. He sighed.

“Huh? Back? What do you mean?” Kagome asked.

“You mean you didn’t hear a word Alendria said?” Miroku asked.

                                      “Alendria? Who’s that?” Kagome asked.

Sango shook her head. “Don’t worry about it, Kagome. Just go get some rest… Um, did you know you’re not a full demon right now?”

“Huh?” Kagome looked down at her hands. “You’re right. That’s weird. Oh, well. I’m going to bed.” She picked up Izumi and laid her down beside the log. Kagome then grabbed out a blanket from her backpack and covered Izumi with it. Kagome then grabbed out another blanket and covered herself with it after she lied down next to her daughter. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Nina let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes. “Inuyasha, can we stop and make camp?”

“No. We’re not stopping until we find Kagome,” Inuyasha said.

“But we want to sleep,” Kai and Sakura said.

“Inuyasha growled in frustration. “Then tell Shippo, Nina, or Koga to carry you.”

“Hmph, I’m not carrying anyone,” Koga said. He then turned to face Nina. “Well, I will carry Nina if she wishes for me to do so.”

Nina sighed. “No. That’s okay, Koga. I don’t need anyone carrying me.”

Shippo looked towards Inuyasha angrily. “Look, I want to find Kagome as badly as you do, but the kids and Nina need their rest. They’re only humans after all.”

“Shippo, maybe you need to get your nose check,” Inuyasha said. “Because Nina happens to be a half-breed.”

                                      Shippo’s eyes widened. “You are?”

Nina nodded and let out another yawn. “Yeah, I’m a half-breed, but I’m extremely tired. Inuyasha, can we please make camp? It must be midnight by now. In which case, it’s pass the kids’ bedtimes and I’m sure Sango and Miroku wouldn’t be happy to here about that.”

Inuyasha turned to face Nina and glared at her. “Listen you…” He stopped and his face softened at the sight of Nina’s tired face. “Fine. We’ll stop and make camp.”

“Really?” Nina said smiling as her eyes lit up. She immediately hugged Inuyasha. “Thanks. You’re the best!”  She released him and looked up at him still smiling.

“Um, yeah. I’m the best,” Inuyasha said sheepishly.

Koga ran off to get firewood. Shippo ran off to get food from the river. Inuyasha stood guard. Nina sat down against the tree and closed her eyes.

She let out another yawn. “I’m so tired.” She groaned. “Not to mention hungry. This is so not fair. Inuyasha should’ve let us stop to get rest and eat. This is all-“

“My fault?” Inuyasha asked opening a sleepy eye.

                                      “Huh? Umm… I hadn’t realized you could-“

“Hear you?” Inuyasha asked. He pointed to his ears. “I have good hearing, you know.”

Nina sighed and looked down at the ground. “Sorry. I didn’t mean it. Really.”

Inuyasha opened both of his eyes and looked up at the moon.

Nina noticed that his eyes were sleepy and his ears were slightly drooping. He’s tired, too. He just hasn’t been paying attention to it because he wants to find Kagome. He must’ve really loved her. She looked back down at the ground. I’ll never have anyone like that. Kagome’s so lucky. Sango is, too. Everyone has someone except me. Her eyes filled with tears. No. Who cares. I’ll find someone someday. Today is just not that day. She got up. There is someone out there for me. I just know it.

Koga and Shippo came back with the firewood and food. After they lit the fire and ate, they went to sleep. Inuyasha lied down in the tree and kept night watch.

Inuyasha closed his sleepy eyes and began to sleep. He the heard rustling in the bushes and immediately opened his eyes. He put his hand on the sheath of his sword. “Who’s there?”

A raccoon popped out of the bushes and ran off.

Inuyasha took his hand off the hilt and sighed. “Stupid raccoon.” He then lied back down and closed his eyes. He then heard rustling in the bushes again. Must be that raccoon again. The rustling continued. He then heard an evil laugh. Inuyasha immediately opened his eyes, jumped off the tree, and grabbed Tessaiga. Standing in front of him stood Sesshomaru.

“So, little brother, you wish to fight me?” Sesshomaru asked. “Is that any way to treat your older brother?”

“What do you want, Sesshomaru?” Inuyasha asked.

“To kill you, of course,” Sesshomaru said unsheathing Toukijin.

“Well, then, I guess this’ll be your final battle then,” Inuyasha said.

                                      “We’ll see,” Sesshomaru said.

The two began charging after each other. They held their swords up high ready to attack.

Nina opened her eyes and watched the two. Sesshomaru? What’s he doing here?

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru went in for the kill.

                                      Oh, no. “Inuyasha!” Nina cried.

The two immediately stopped and turned to face Nina.
