Joe and Gomamon haven't come up with much in their search for Matt. However, their optimism increases after finding Matt's Swan Boat. At the same time Wargreymon is doing his best to fight Piedmon, while Sora and T.K. are losing hope of finding the others.
Meanwhile, in what seems like a cave of no end, Matt and Gabumon are walking. Matt confides to Gabumon how he always wanted to protect T.K. but he realized that T.K. didn't need him. He is wallowing in self pity envying the bond T.K. has with Tai. A dark cloud swirls and forms around the depressed boy. Gabumon sinks his teeth into Matt in an effort to snap him out of it. It works. Matt unloads his feelings after his parents divorce. How he bottled things inside and felt alone. When Gabumon listened and helped Matt realize he no longer had to hide his feelings, the dark cave surrounding the two disappeared. The two found themselves standing under bright sunlight. A happy Joe comes running up feeling proud of himself for finding Matt. He returns Matt's harmonica and smiles.
Returning to Tai, we find that Wargreymon is getting pummeled by Piedmon. Izzy and Kari's digimon want to help, but Tai fears they are already too tired from the battle with LadyDevimon. He hopes the others will arrive soon!
In another part of the Digital World, Sora and T.K. have spotted Matt's boat. They continue on foot looking for Matt but begin having doubts that they will find him. Suddenly, a dark mist grabs Sora and drags her into the dark cave (same as the one Matt previously exited from). As T.K. is calling for Sora, Matt and the others show up. The two brothers have a warm reunion and then T.K. tells them what happened to Sora. Gabumon reminds Matt that this looks like the same type of cave. All of them scale the wall to the bottom. As they are doing so, Matt tells T.K. not to be scared for it is his fear that will feed this darkness. Once they reach bottom, Biyomon's voice can be heard in a distance. They run to where Sora is sitting with her head buried in her arms. Matt and Joe are unable to budge her, and she is chanting that if she doesn't find the others in time, then the whole world is doomed. Matt tells her the darkness in her heart has created this cave. He tells her to erase all negative feelings deep in her heart It will only work if she wants it too. Sora digs deep in her heart and with Matt and Joe's help, the dark cave disappears.
The scene switches to the battle with Piedmon, and it's getting nasty. Not only Wargreymon but Tai is also getting tossed around. Izzy is getting angry with Tai for not letting him fight, but Tai still insists..."no." Suddenly, Piedmon unleashes a powerful clown attack causing both Wargreymon and Tai to collapse. The young digidestined is barely conscious when he hears familiar voices calling out to him. Yeah! Matt, Joe, Sora, and T.K. have arrived. Matt cradles Tai in his arms apologizing and admitting that their friendship is very important to him. Miraculously Matt's crest begins to glow. At the same time Garurumon touches his head against the fallen Wargreymon. A bright light emits and Tai's strong digimon is reborn. Seems Matt's crest gave Wargreymon strength so he can fight again. Joe and Matt help Tai to safety so the battle can continue. Piedmon angrily tells his plan for destroying them all and attacks with his "Trump sword:"
Gabumon warp digivolve to Metalgarurumon.
Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon work together to destroy Piedmon's attack. The digidestined are ecstatic! "Well, could it actually be the case that I have finally found an adversary worth fighting?" Piedmon smirks.
