Summary:
In pursuing the answer to the crest's mystery, Matt and Gabumon end up in a forest. While Yamato questions his digivice, Gabumon has an alarming dream. When he awakens, the forest is suddenly filled with a purple mist. Knowing danger is upon them, Yamato puts out the campfire, and they begin to run. The sword wielding digimon, Zanbamon, appears before them.
Gryzmon, Storabimon, and Hanumon approach Zanbamon. Gryzmon tells Storabimon to stand back while he and Hanumon attack, but sadly the two are defeated easily. When Zanbamon turns his attention to Storabimon, Yamato and Garurumon grab him and take off running. With daybreak approaching, Zanbamon suddenly disappears. Storabimon takes them to an area where survivors of the many villages destroyed by Zanbamon reside. Mojyamon is among the survivors.
The next evening, Yamato and Gabumon have taken on the role of watching for Zanbamon. It isn't long before he appears. Yamato and WereGarurumon's attacks do no damage at all. Taichi and MetalGreymon show up to help. Even as Mega levels their attacks are ineffective.
Storabimon finds the weary boys and digimon the next morning. They return to the other survivors. Koshiro contacts Yamato relaying what his research had discovered on Zanbamon. After learning the history, Gabumon insists on seeing the place where Zanbamon's cursed sword was sealed years ago. Seems a gold sword fighter used his own soul to seal the curse. Storabimon takes them to a cave. Garurumon pulls a weapon (the gold swordfighter's soul) from the rubble.
Once evening falls and Zanbamon appears, WereGarurumon wields the sword, but Zanbamon manages to break it in half. Both Yamato and WereGarurumon work together with the broken pieces. Their bond restores the blade. Yamato's digivice reacts, and WereGarurumon Mega evolves to CresGarurumon, the gold sword fighter. This time Zanbamon is defeated along with his sword.
Storabimon is given the sword. He understands that "The power to believe and the strength to never fear. That's why the sword fighter's soul responded!" Knowing this, he vows that he and the others will become stronger.
And thus... Yamato, also, reached the answer to the crests that Wisemon mentioned.
