It's early dawn. T.K. and Cody have ventured off on their own.....seems they have figured out just where the Digimon Emperor was heading.
Meanwhile, the Digimon Emperor is making the final touches on his latest creation. At the same time, Tai, Matt, and Izzy receive an email update from Kari. While back in the city, June is still trying to catch up with Matt.
In the digital world, poor Davis is more distraught than ever when Kari and Yolei take off as well. "Is it my snoring?" he wonders. Truth is, everyone is searching for the Emperor's base, and it looks as if Cody and Submarimon have found it. Cody relays his find to T.K. and tells the older boy that he is going to sneak in through an underwater cave. Suddenly, T.K. spots a whirlpool, and he's not the only one. The Digimon Emperor sees it on his surveillance screens. He calls it the dark pool and believes it is caused by an evil digimon. He plans to tap into its power in order to complete his master plan. Wormmon warns him against it, but of course, Ken ignores him, gets irritated, and gives the small digimon a swift kick.
Cody and Armadillomon are investigating the base. They spot the engine room first and then come upon dozens and dozens of imprisoned digimon. Just as Cody is about to have Armadillomon digivolve, he looks up to see the base approaching the dark whirlpool. "What is that?" He wonders.
In the real world, June gets a lift from her grandparents, while her brother in the Digital World has found a small island that works like a boat.
As T.K. watches, the base emerges from the water. Fearing for Cody's safety, he and Pegasusmon race to enter the base unnoticed. Unfortunately, the dark whirlpool is playing games with their heads. Pegasusmon orders T.K. not to look at it. They enter the base and meet up with Cody and Digmon who are now freeing the prisoners.
Inside the base's control room, Ken puts his plan into action. "Initiate the attack!" he orders. However, the diver units dispatched seem to get sucked into the abyss of the dark whirlpool. Ken (a.k.a. Digimon Emperor) gets angry and decides to get what he wants himself. He takes out his own diver unit and comes face-to-face with (ominous drum roll please).....Devimon. Ken is absorbing the data he needs when the evil digimon begins to taunt the boy, "Do you really believe you can control the powers of darkness??" Ken just laughs when Devimon warns, "Beware of the darkness."
T.K. sees the interaction between Ken and Devimon and becomes enraged. He remembers 4 years ago when Angemon made the ultimate sacrifice in order to destroy Devimon. He throws down his hat and backpack and marches off angrily with Patamon following. "I have some unfinished business to take care of," he tells Cody.
Shortly afterwards, the Emperor has returned and notices there are intruders, however, his master plan must come first. Once finished with his ultimate creation, Ken spots Kari and Yolei approaching the base. He sends out his powerful new digimon weapon of mass destruction, Kimeramon, to attack the girls. Nefertimon and Halsemon realize the power of this new foe and place Kari and Yolei out of danger before continuing to battle. While that's occurring, Cody, Digmon, and Tentomon have just finished evacuating the once captured digimon. Cody is reluctant to leave T.K. behind, but Tentomon insists he'll be fine.
T.K. angrily walks further into the base until he comes face to face with the Digimon Emperor. "I don't remember sending you an invitation," Ken seethed, "I must admit, you have a lot of nerve sneaking into the base of the most powerful being in the Digital World." T.K. begins to chuckle and says, "You say you're the most powerful being yet you know nothing of the powers that be. You're a pretender. You're like that story 'The Emperor's New Clothes'." Ken fumes and orders the boy to bow before him. When he refuses, Ken lashes out with his whip striking T.K. across the face. The boy calmly rubs his cheek saying, "When you can't think of anything to say, do you always resort to fighting? You don't know when to talk and when to fight." T.K. determines it's a good time to fight and slugs Ken. The two engage in a fist fight while Patamon and Wormmon engage in a stare down.
Outside Kimeramon is pummeling Nefertimon and Halsemon. When the huge digimon blasts a hole in the base and grabs the two opposing digimon, T.K. has Patamon digi-armor energize to Pegasusmon and flies out to help. Just before exiting he yells, "Hey Ken, remind me where I left off the next time I'm pummeling you into oblivion." Pegasusmon beams Kimeramon which releases the captured digimon. They're all able to escape when Kimeramon stops moving. Inside the base Ken admits to Wormmon, "I guess I'm not as cool as I think I am. Time for me to regroup and come back stronger than ever."
The sun is setting when Davis, T.K., Cody, Kari, and Yolei finally reunite. Cody returns T.K.'s hat, and Davis actually praises T.S. for giving it to Ken. Maybe one day Davis will get the name straight......"Uh, that's T.K., Davis."
The final scene is a disheartened June. He grandparents have taken her to a place where there's no sign of Matt or camping for that matter. June...get the hint, ....even your grandparents can see the writing on the wall!
