Tai is racing through a math test, but his mind is on Agumon. A short time later Davis, Kari, and T.K. run to the computer room to meet up with the others, but where was Yolei? Just as Davis goes to find her, Yolei saunters in apprehensively. When she says she's not going, Tai gets a little angry, but then admits that he doesn't want anyone placing themselves in danger if they are not up to the challenge. Everyone agrees and then unloads homework, kendo stick polishing, and other odd jobs on her. With Yolei staying behind, Kari opens the digi-port and away they go to save Agumon.
Meanwhile, at his base, the Digimon Emperor is studying the power of the dark ring. There must be a flaw, because it continues to fail. At about the same time, Tentomon is greeting the Digidestined. The flying digimon offers to help the others locate the Digimon Emperor. They want to put a stop to this menace once and for all!
The scene returns to the base where Ken, using his digivice (D-3), orders Agumon to digivolve. The dark digivice causes Agumon to digivolve into Skullgreymon once again. Ken transfers more power to the dark ring, because he is having trouble controlling Skullgreymon. The huge digimon is almost able to escape, but a electrical force field prevents that, and Agumon de-digivolves. Wormmon begs Ken to let him go, but that's not going to happen...there's more testing to be done.
In another area of the Digital World, Tai spots a control spire. It is boldly protected by Woodmon, who claims he cannot be defeated. Funny thing is, Flamedramon took him down easily and then used his fire rocket to destroy the spire as well as Woodmon's dark ring. The grateful tree digimon points out the direction of the Digimon Emperor.
In the real world, Yolei ponders her decision. After cleaning one more spot on her glasses, she decides to get tough. Tentomon tells Izzy that the Digimon Emperor should be in Rail Town. Per Yolei's request, Izzy lets her inform the others of the Emperor's whereabouts.
Back at the base, the Digimon Emperor works diligently. The dark ring can control an adult-stage digimon, but not a fully evolved digimon. It needs to be a different shape. YES! "A dark spiral, with this I can control even a fully digivolved digimon," Ken says, chuckling evilly. However, he is unable to test it, because Agumon has escaped. (Actually, Wormmon removed Agumon's dark ring making it easy for the captive digimon to escape. Wormmon was hoping that Ken would use him as a test subject.) Unfortunately, Ken yells at Wormmon declaring, "You're about as useless to me as an old pair of underwear that's made out of 100% poison ivy. " (Ouch!)
The digidestined are following the train tracks into Rail Town. Suddenly, a train appears, and who is driving it?....It's Agumon! Tai and his digimon have a happy (and sappy) reunion. Kari reminds him that they should get going...knowing that Ken will be coming after Agumon very soon. Davis wants to fight, but Tai say, "sometimes you've got to think with your head and not your heart." (*Sniffles*...our Tai has grown up (^_~)). Before they are able to flee, Ken sees them on his monitors and races outside to stop them. After some bantering between Ken (Oops....I mean the Digimon Emperor....he hates to be called Ken, Kenny, or Kenneth...hee, hee.) and the digidestined, dozens of Darktyrannomon come out of nowhere and surround the good guys.
Veemon armor digivolve to Flamedramon, the fire of courage.
Armodillomon armor digivolve to Digmon, the drill of power.
After some flaming fist and rock cracking, Kari and T.K.'s digimon enter the fray.
Gatomon armor digivolve to Nefertimon, the angel of light.
Patamon armor digivolve to Pegasusmon, flying hope.
Agumon wants to fight as well, but Ken throws a dark spiral which lands around the digimon's wrist. Ken then instructs him to dark digivolve. Agumon dark digivolves to Metalgreymon. Tai begs his digimon to fight Ken's control, but it's no use. Metalgreymon is told to attack Tai. Luckily, Davis pulls the older boy out of the line of fire. Then Nefertimon and Pegasusmon use their golden noose. Tai wants to approach Metalgreymon, but Davis is holding him back.
"Let me just try to reach him!" Tai squirms."The only thing you'll reach is the bottom of his footprint," Davis replies...continuing to hold Tai back.
Just then, Metalgreymon breaks free from the golden noose and fires his "GIGABLASTER". (Humorous scene: Ken is laughing hysterically until smoke from the gigablaster surrounds him. His laughing turns to gagging for a few seconds.) With the digidestined stunned, Ken takes off with Metalgreymon chanting, "Goodbye, digifools and say goodbye to your pet Agumon...for good. With the dark spirals and Metalgreymon, I am invincible!"
After the excitement, Tai is blaming himself for letting Agumon down. Two rail cars pull up carrying Matt, Yolei and Hawkmon. When Matt sees Tai pouting, he gives him a right hook (I think...don't really know boxing moves.) Tai appreciates his friend knocking some sense into him. That's when they all resolve to get Agumon back even if they have to fight him! So by sailing train car, they all set out to find the Digimon Emperor.
