EPISODE 06 - FAMILY PICNIC

Wonderful summary written by "Akino Ame"...Thank you!!

A commercial plane lands at Tokyo Airport, and a pink-haired teenager steps off. She comments on how tired she is before checking her watch to see that she has the wrong time zone set. Wonder who she is... Wonder who could like pink so much that she would actually dye her hair that color...

The DigiDestined, meanwhile, have decided that they've done such a good job fighting the Digimon Emperor that they deserve a vacation. I think this is a union thing because most DigiDestined/Tamers didn't take a break in the sixth episode. Well, Yolei raids her family's store, taking all sorts of salad, including three bean salad. "Actually, it's only two-bean salad," her mother (or sister? I can't tell) comments. "We ran out of the third bean." Why do I get the feeling we heard this joke in the movie?

Cody finds Upamon hiding under a basket in the kitchen. He warns the little guy not to do that anymore or else his mother will think he's a rodent. (Man, they must have some big rats in Japan...) Upamon asks what the food is that Mrs. Hida is preparing, and Cody answers that it's sushi. Upamon asks what that is, and Cody answers that it's raw fish and seaweed. "Yuck!" Upamon declares, and Cody agrees that it was his original thought.

T.K. has Patamon in his backpack, but the poor little guy can't breathe because his partner left his dirty gym socks in there. T.K. apologizes, and we're all left wondering what else he left in there. Speaking of backpacks, Kari tries to stuff Gatomon in hers. And succeeds, by the way. With the things they got away with in this episode, one must wonder whether to report them for Digimon abuse.

The Digis meet at school, getting the digiport open, when said pink-haired teen walks in the door, asking if they're supposed to be there. The newer kids panic while T.K. and Kari smile happily at their friend. An analyzer screen pops up to reveal the girl is Mimi - dressed in a red-and-blue shirt with a star on it, a white skirt, platform shoes, and with her hair dyed pink with red streaks and sparkly stars. Hey, this is Mimi we're talking 'bout, people... Having explained she's part of the original Digis, she's invited to the picnic.

There, Yolei hands her a chocolate-covered rice ball, which she nearly cries over, having not had one in years. Hawkmon asks to try some sushi, and Armadillomon throws it at him. Cody scolds him for throwing food, while Yolei tells Hawkmon not to worry so much about a California roll. ("But it's rolling all the way back to California!" Hawkmon complains) Mimi senses something will go wrong (don't worry folks, that's Kari's job later) and follows Yolei. Naturally, the two girls fall through the ground. They find themselves in a brand new area of the Digital World. Glowing red eyes peek through a bush, chanting "Princess Mimi, Princess Mimi..." Mimi recognizes them as her friends Gekomon and Otamamon, but Yolei quickly realizes they're controlled by Dark Rings. Quickly, they run for their lives, only to be rescued by a shout of "Poison Ivy!" No! We don't get a crossover with Batman! Palmon appears and saves them, explaining that this is the Night Forest, and a Control Spire (with pretty spotlights) has been erected in the middle of it.

The Digis can't find the signals of either Yolei or Mimi, but the Emperor can. He orders Wormmon to call the Roachmon brothers. Yes, the Roachmon brothers. The Roachmon brothers take the call and start pelting the girls with their Garbage Dump attack. Naturally, Mimi finds it utterly repulsive, but she has no time to complain as they must run from the Garage Sale Bombs. Ridiculous, Bugs Bunny-type items like pianos fall around them as they run for cover. Yolei has an odd (and all-out freaky) fantasy with Mimi a la "Revolutionary Girl Utena," and everyone in the audience is left scarred for the rest of their lives.

When the Roachmon brothers turn out to fight with themselves even worse than Tai and Matt used to (and Davis and T.K. do now), Mimi and Yolei put it to good use, having them destroy the Control Spire. You should know what this means by now...

"Palmon digivolve to... Togemon!"

Togemon and Halsemon take care of the pest problem, everybody gets back together, the Emperor plans something different, blah blah blah... Oh, and remember June's name for the next episode.
