EPISODE 05 - OLD RELIABLE

Wonderful summary written by "Akino Ame"...Thank you!!

Just as in almost every episode in this arc, we begin with the Digimon Emperor, who is forcing a bunch of Gizamon to build something in the frozen wasteland - probably another Control Spire. When one falls, he starts beating him with his whip until good ol' Gomamon comes and saves the day. The problem is that the Emperor tells the Gizamon that the one who defeats Gomamon will receive a reward! Naturally, they attack him and leave him half - dead, only to receive Dark Rings in return. Some reward. The Emperor turns and walks away, asking Wormmon to make him hot chocolate.

Somehow, the injured Gomamon manages to pull himself to a TV and call for Joe's help. He hears it and runs into the Odaiba Elementary computer lab to meet Davis, Yolei, DemiVeemon, Poromon, and Upamon. Upamon, having thought it was Cody at the door, is slightly depressed, but cheers up when his partner comes from kendo class or something.

Cody tries to introduce himself to Joe, but Davis insists that there's no time. They open the digiport, only to freeze in the cold weather. Davis's nose starts running (a la Tai in "Subzero Ice Punch"), and everyone else is shivering (even Yolei, who's the most warmly dressed). Joe, being the reliable person he is, packed hand warmers for everybody, but when Yolei opens hers, it falls to the ground, melting some of the snow to reveal Gomamon. This gives the others an idea, and they all rush to warm him up. When he recovers, Joe checks to see if his mind suffered any:
Joe: "Gomamon, what day is it?"
Gomamon: "Saturday."
Joe: "Actually, it's Thursday, but the days of the week were never your strong point."

Right. Anyway, Gomamon is too hurt and tired to make a long trek across the snow and ice, so Davis takes a look behind him at some trees and gets an idea: Davis: "Hey, Joe, got any rope?" This is Joe we're talking about, remember - the guy who brought toilet paper to the Digital World? Of course he has rope! Using the armor Digimon, the Digis knock down the trees to make a raft - and much faster than 01 and Frontier, mind you. The rope is used to tie the trunks together, and voila! A raft. Unfortunately, any sleigh needs some reindeer to pull it, so the Digimon are elected. Wonder which one gets to play Rudolph.

Davis thinks the trip's great, you know, until they get attacked by a bunch of Frigimon. The raft turns over and Cody is thrown into a freezing river. Gomamon jumps in after him and they get him to a cave-much like the one Matt was in during "Subzero Ice Punch." Joe gives him some tea, saying that it's "ninety percent herbal and ten percent tea." The Digis know that they can't bring a hypothermic Cody with them, so they tell him to stay behind with Joe. Of course, Cody refuses, but loses the battle. With that decided, the Digis head out to battle the Emperor.
Oh yeah. Did I mention that every time they leave someone behind, something terrible happens?

A Shellmon attacks, but as long as the Control Spire is up, Gomamon can't digivolve. Too bad too, because Digmon could really use Ikkakumon's help at the time. Joe suggests that Gomamon try to win Shellmon over with his "great Gomamon charm." Unfortunately, Gomamon tries a badly placed joke. Joe's reaction is summed up in his own words:
Joe: "That's the great Gomamon charm?"

Okay, because I haven't seen this episode in ages, I'm cutting ahead. The Digis knock down the Control Spire, and so...
"Gomamon digivolve to... Ikkakumon!"

All Joe and Gomamon lovers unite! Ikkakumon kicks some Shellmon butt, and everything is won. Yay! But naturally, the Emperor has more plans up his sleeves...
