Feeling Duskmon is their enemy, the children attempt to attack. They find Duskmon to be extremely powerful, and Koji instructs everyone to retreat. Takuya is angry, because he felt they could defeat the dark digimon.
Later that day the children make camp. Sitting by the fire, Zoe and J.P. discuss the differences in Koji and Takuya's personalities. At the same time Takuya and Tommy are discussing a battle plan. Using twigs and vine the boys have put together action figures for each of them. After showing everyone his plan, Takuya is confident Duskmon will be toast! Koji asks to see Takuya alone.
In a secluded cave Koji asks Takuya, "Why do you think we're here?" Koji realizes the strength of Duskmon and worries about the lives of the others. He believes Takuya's overconfidence could be dangerous. Just as Takuya begins to absorb what Koji is telling him, the earth rocks from around them. Duskmon has found them, & they have no choice but to fight.
All of the children evolve, and Takuya's plan goes into action. Agunimon gets Duskmon immobilized while telling the others to use their attacks. Duskmon is left without a scratch. He approaches Agunimon/Takuya, raises his weapon, and declares "you will be the first to go." Takuya cringes, but just as he is about to be fatally hit KendoGarurumon jumps in between and takes the blow. KendoGarurumon devolves to Koji who falls to the ground in a pain filled unconsciousness. Agunimon picks him up and cries out his name. When Duskmon sees who it is, he begins to go crazy. He engulfs everyone in a wave of darkness.
The next scene shows Takuya, alone, waking up in the dark terminal. A very eerie sounding trailmon asks if Takuya wishes to go home. Feeling responsible for what happened to Koji, a dejected Takuya steps onto the train homeward bound.
